Star Wars Gaming Megathread Episode IV - A New Update

Oh yeah, the Dantooine update came out a few days ago for SWTOR, completely missed it.
You can't visit the Jedi Enclave, but you can see it from the playable area. Looks like they just reused the model for the "Temple of the Ancients" on Rakata Prime.

Yeah that vid was WIP
You must understand that, hiati notwithstanding, I've been with The Old Republic since launch.
As soon as I became a preferred player, levelling up a character basically meant clearing all the quests there were on each planet plus some heroics too, and then some regular flashpoints and warzones for a good measure. All of this just in order to barely reach the middle level requirement for each new planet and progress.
As you noted yourself, nowadays purple quests give large amounts of experience even to preferred players, and beside the new companion system made your sidekicks so damn powerful all the time that level requirements for levelling PvE content are something you can safely ignore, to some extent
Based on what was found on PTS, they will expend the planet at some point (some unfinished areas are hidden behind the invisible walls). Also they asked on forums what would people like to see there (possible stronghold or some instanced content).
What's the details around that bug hunt farming anyway? Same thing people talk about when they talk about Nar Shadaa farming?

Pre order bonus stuff for Fallen Order (I wouldn't before we at least see some gameplay today, of course.)
Wonder if all these things are going to have some non-pre order skin options too. I'm pretty sure they mentioned you could customise the saber back at Celebration.
I just hope the cutscenes aren't pre-rendered, so you can see this customization in them

Oh shit it's Saw Gerrera
The Flametroopers, their helmet design came from Rebels.
Glowing bat lightsaber confirmed, sigh. I want dismemberment in current gen
Disney probably won't let them go all dismemberment. Looks like a decent, if basic, cinematic action game. Like how it seems to combine elements from the original movies, Rogue One, and Clone Wars/Rebels. After the Star Wars videogame drought we've had, I'll take it.

Some choice quotes:
The lightsaber ends up doing most of the talking in Jedi: Fallen Order, but it isn’t used in the way you would think. You won’t be swinging it wildly at swarms of enemies, or even in lengthy combo sequences against just one enemy. The team’s vision for the lightsaber action stems from the words “thoughtful combat,” which equates to the player strategizing and looking for openings where the saber can be the most lethal. In a way, the combat dance is reminiscent of From Software’s Souls games, but not in a punishing way. Respawn wants players to succeed, but not without a little effort. The Force is also used to augment combat, allowing the player to mess with enemies in satisfying, clever, and powerful ways.
When the saber is sheathed, Respawn’s vision for the adventure has classic gaming roots and is inspired heavily by the Metroid series, pushing players to freely explore worlds, and come back to them later with new powers that can be used to reach different areas. Never once do players see a waypoint on the screen telling them where their next objective is. Respawn doesn’t want to hold your hand, and instead hopes you plot your own path through dangerous worlds that are teeming with just as much hostile wildlife as heavily armed Imperial Forces.
We don’t know how many worlds there are yet, but the concept art and clips from the trailer hint at a good number of them. Asmussen says the ratio of established Star Wars planets and new planets original to Jedi: Fallen Order is about half and half. Each world houses a hub where the ship lands. Here, the player can return to rest up, save, apply skill points, and spark conversations with characters to learn more about them, the worlds, and overall story.
Since Cal doesn’t heal over time during combat, he needs to rely on health canisters to get a boost on the fly. If his health is low, he can snap his fingers or ask BD for help (performed by pressing up on the d-pad). The canister pops out of a compartment in BD’s casing, and Cal catches it, and within just a second, applies it to himself for an immediate shot of health. These health canisters function exactly like Dark Souls’ Estus Flasks, and won’t replenish until the player finds a save point or returns to The Stinger Mantis. Retreating to a save point comes with a risk, however, as enemies will respawn.
Exploration also unearths other chest types that contain cosmetic items to change the way Cal, BD, and The Stinger Mantis look. And yes, lightsaber parts are a part of that equation. If a blue blade isn’t your style, you can find different colors, hilts, and other components that alter the saber’s overall design. Just don’t expect to get a red blade for a Jedi.
Almost every button press in the game has an augment that is executed by either double-tapping a button or holding it. Respawn designed the controls in way that all powers can be used at any time, and the player will never be asked to dive into a menu to swap them out. The controls are mapped in ways that are easy to grasp. On the PlayStation 4 controller, lightsaber strikes are mapped to square for basic swings and triangle for focused attacks. If the player taps triangle, they execute a heavy attack, but if they hold the button, Cal performs a force-powered, close-the-gap dash. The X button is jump, which can be used for leap attacks when followed up by either saber strike.

And then there's this pretty sick looking Sith temple.
That's all I was expecting and all I was asking for.
the saber blade in the demo looked pretty bad but WOW this preview image makes it look abysmal
By the looks of it Jedi: Fallen Order seems play like The Force Unleashed, only, you know, actually far more grounded
Not full dismemberment, but this guy definitely got (partially) split in half

I mean, it's in the title. TFU was meant to be stupid-insane and bordering what seems reasonable. Sam Winter (Starkiller's actor) even said it's logical to assume that he was far more grounded in power in Legends canon and things were just made dramatic for gameplay.
IIRC the novelization of the game is a lot less over the top.
It looks like Force Unleashed with Batman Arkham Asylum combat for the lightsaber. I guess that's an okay combo
Personally I want a For Honor game but Star Wars. I want to see Dual lightsabers, single sabers, staffs, pikes, vibro swords, and cool ass character cosmetic customization
All I could feel while watching the trailer was "that sure is a single player game set in the Star Wars universe".
Maybe another trailer will grab my interest or something but I'm not really feeling it, even though I love Respawn.
As much as people shit on TFU for being over the top, it was actually fun gameplay wise. Not sure why people prefer a slower, more boring lightsaber style like this. Even the Jedi Academy games had flippy and outlandish lighstaber combat.
I honestly never really got the issue with force and saber combat being goofy and over the top even in the movies aside from some like occasional pointless flailing.
Fuck, still though it doesn't look too bad, combat looks alright, wouldn't mind seeing it with Motion Blur turned off though, it's quite heavy in that video.
Sam Witwer, getting his name wrong, would you believe it!
The flippy combat was what made it incredibly un-fun for me. A slower, more methodical and punishing saber combat is how it should go imo.
Truth be told, I've always found TFU gameplay to be really enjoyable, mostly because yes, the game gives you a lot of powers and moves to screw with your enemies, but it's also sensible enough to introduce obstacles you need to take on carefully and enemies with specific immunities (more often than not different kinds of them in the same fight), so you must be somewhat tactical during your power trip. Plus, using the environment to your advantage is pretty much mandatory, especially on harder difficulties.
My two main issues with the game however are about said harder difficulties, which go way overboard when it comes to specific enemies and bosses, and later levels, which mainly boil down to toss some enemies into an arena and call it a day, environment interactivity be damned

Is it just me or does the lightsaber combat look a little better here than how it did in the actual demo?
That looks much better to me personally.
