This.
Just couldn't help myself:

i like having maps with the bosses/crazy shit going on but more recently i've been thinking/hoping we get a map that is just as plain as good old harvest_event
no spells, just spooky ghosts & pumpkin bombs.
We won't get any Halloween update.
I'm fine with him showing up in the lore and comics and whatnot but it does kinda feel like they've been using spells and souls and junk as a crutch to make the Halloween events more interesting.
I'd honestly like to see something closer to Mann Manor again. As much as I love Helltower and especially Ghost Fort, we've got a lot of mirrored Halloween maps. What about Mossrock, but the train is replaced with a ghost train? Or Egypt, with randomly-spawning hordes of mummies?
Though realistically-speaking, my money's on Banana Bay (assuming they don't add something completely new, ala Hellstone and Sinshine).
Mossrock engages in enough FPS-rape without the bajillion particles and models that a hlloween map entails. I'd rather a serious optimization pass on that map than an event version. Stop snickering.
I wouldn't mind a major update sized (or larger) scream fortress update that's basically known as "the biggest scream fortress ever"
I miss when the Gibus would get upgraded every halloween to reflect what happened that year.
They haven't missed a single Halloween event cause it's been automated to take place during Halloween just the same it enables Halloween restricted items on full moons. Call me crazy but I can't seem to think the time to worry about the way "Valve is (or rather, isn't) handling TF2" should start in the near future... I feel as though we are well past that.
The only beyond reasonable thing I can hope for at this point is that the relevant developers are still getting paid to work on something remotely TF2 related. Can a company as big as Valve continue to pay 2-3 developers in full to work on something like TF2 without at any point suggesting they change the focus of their efforts for the sake of continued employment? ... Source 2?
I hear a lot of talk about how the work environment at Valve is a "do what you want" kind of system, but I honestly can't wrap my head around the idea there aren't any implied/under the table pressures the employees have to deal with to continue getting paid.
I'm fairly certain we'll get another automated halloween with nothing new. I won't stop cashing out of the game and dreaming of the day they announce it is over. Because the day they officially kill it, is the day mods will rejoice, and perhaps aim larger.
I mean, like I said, we've gotten a new Halloween Update (beyond just turning on Halloween mode, new cosmetics/bosses/maps) every year aside from last year, and that's because last year we got Jungle Inferno at the end of October instead.
If we don't get any kind of new content, just the activation of Halloween mode, then there's a problem; Summer was never a consistent thing with TF2. Sometimes we'd get something in June, sometimes in July, sometimes in August. Sometimes there were weapons, sometimes there were maps, sometimes there were balance updates. Sometimes the "Summer Event" was literally just a new crate.
Halloween has consistently dropped during the same time of the same month with more or less the same kind of content literally every year there's been a Halloween Event (again, the only exception being last year, but we can count Jungle Inferno as the Halloween Update considering when it dropped). Halloween and Smissmas are the only consistent, annual events that TF2 has; if they miss out on one or more of them, then things have clearly gotten worse than just "TF2 isn't a main priority for them".
I'll be the first to say "TF2 isn't dead", but I'd consider a total absence of any new content in October a massive red flag.
I'm at the point where there are a few criteria holding me back from selling all of my items. Either one, the heavy update is just mediocre. If it's anything short of great, then i'm just cashing out.
If it gets released in october or after, cashing out. If either smissmas or the halloween mode is lacking due to the heavy update, i'm cashing out as well.
Can't really justify having money invested in a game that's not getting better. Really want to stay invested and keep my inventory, unusuals and all, but it'll be a sad fact that it feels like i'm wasting money by keeping anything of value in the tf2 economy.
Loadouts v12
Does anyone at all have any idea why the TF Team is so silent this year? Are they building hype?
as with years before
they are probably doing something - and as with the years before - don't communicate about the something
they have always been silent. they used tobe more active on the blog, but that was often used to joke and/or stuff like that.
Yeah, staying silent is sure hyping people up!
Is it too pessimistic to assume there is a 'Team' at the moment?
Anecdotal observation: I've been spending some time on trade servers recently because I haven't had my fill of edgy teens and tweens calling each other a bundle of sticks, dropping the N word and bragging about their virtual profits. Actually, I'm trying to divest myself of some of my more expensive TF2 baubles for a host of reasons (not the least of which is the current state of this game makes me sad.) I've noticed something of recent: Instead of bitching about /r/tf2, now they bitch about Facepunch. I offer a hearty and warm welcome to the frothy mixture of infantilism and sociopathy that make up the Trump administration for-profit TF2 trading community that lurks here! This sea change reinforces what I've observed for quite some time now, the /r/tf2 mods have managed to squeeze out what little value and substances that subreddit once held. tf.tv continues to be the toxic, snobby and humorously illiterate comp-focused forum it always has been. We, the long suffering FP masses are it, the last bastion of people who GAF about TF2 and care to discuss it.
Also, Crit-a-Cola and the Diamondback are still not nerfed and probably never will be. Spy's damage resistance while cloaked/dead ringing combined with post-Blue Moon flame particles means that even a dedicated pyro loses a spy more often than not.
critacola is very similar to v1, except the mark starts with the first shot and can even linger long after the cola is done.
it certainly is nerfed
a lot of certain weapons went back to close to their v1 but with a few tweeks.
Kinda shows that if they do introduce a balanced weapon, noone ever uses it, which is why a lot of weapons got buffed or tweeked into being banned in comp leagues; they want actual options.
valve always goes totally silent and then it turns out they were working on some weird project which makes most players go "oh.. neat?" and then theyre silent for a year again
like i never even see people use crit-a-cola and when they do 90% of the time they're newer players that can't aim, get shutdown instantly then switch back off of it because they don't know how to use it
I use crit-a-cola in MVM when I go dps-Scout.
I only really used to use it for the speed boost, but since that's removed. I really don't see the utility in it.
I like weapons that make fast Boston boy faster.
I just got into the weirdest match. 5 bots on our team, the second you tried to kick one the rest of the bots would vote no then kick you. I ended up getting kicked for even exposing their plot.
