That is a monstrously unfair label for all the hard work the tf2 community puts into making stuff for the game (a lot more than valve themselves!) Especially since all the popular communities tend to have degenerate fandoms that lead to this.
Maybe the warning is because of the "gambling" aspect of the game?
It's not related to the Workshop at all, it's related to how TF2 is technically rated M and now Valve are taking steps to warn consumers about potential violence and gore or explicit sexual content in a game.
Ah yeah, I see what you mean. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/36lSzUMBJnc/maxresdefault.jpg https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/a/a6/Burly_Beast.png
it's kind of crazy how violent tf2 really is, we're all used to it after playing the game for 7,000 years but the gibs are pretty ridiculous. they're not shocking or particularly gross, i'd just be surprised to see a game like tf2 release now.
I really don't see what you mean. The gibs are so low detail, they're nothing compared to the custom SFM TF2 gibs. Plus the blood decals look like ketchup. I really don't think the game is that violent that it requires a warning, especially considering it's in a cartoony art style.
aye, the same kinda goes for isaac played it in public one day and a person that really doesn't play videogames just gave me the strangest and most disgusted look :V
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/843/7c1f79ca-e402-47d0-9fc6-267c19aab69a/image.png it's certainly not "realistic" but it's quite violent when you think about it
You have got to be kidding me... https://i.imgur.com/MrDVA7H.jpg
You're crazy. Games more violent than TF2 are released almost daily. DOOM 2016 and Wolfenstein TNO were both way more violent than TF2 is, and they were two insaley huge successes. Hell, you're crazy for thinking TF2 is violent when it's more ridiculous. Violence isn't just ludicrous blood sprites and gibs. VIolence is context as well. We're not de-sensitized to the violence in TF2, it's just not an actually violent game, it's bloody and goofy. A Demoman can be turned into gibs while saying "Ohh, that's smarts". All the death screams are over the top and almost goofy, especially the Heavy's. The Demoman's death screams are the same screams he lets out when he's charging at you with a shield. When Spy is exploded and turned into bits, he reverts back to his original design. Pyro does a backflip in his headshot death animation. And, again, that's all part of the charm in TF2. It's like the Spy vs. Spy comics, the gore is done to add to the charm, not to make you wince and cringe because it's so realistic and disturbing.
Guy, it's finally here. https://youtu.be/yTVzWSasx8c?t=31s
You have to see this from the perspective of a person that's not really that much into videogames. Compare it with Overwatch. The most violent Overwatch gets is gifs of blood coming from people's bodies - the actions leading to their death are violent, but their actual death... isnt due to explosives and the like simply ending up with them... flopping on the ground. Meanwhile in TF2, they explode into gibs, burn to death etc. - it is a violent game. There are more violent games out there, but even if its the type of "comically violence" its still p violent.
"a person that's not really that much into videogames" isn't a person that exists anymore. Unless you're referring to yourself, in which case, fair point.
?????? Of course they exist. The 40 year old man in front of the shopping line will not know much about videogames apart from tetris and "that pikachu" - Half the people I used to school to didn't know what a CS:GO was or Videogames apart from Pokemon or something like that. People know they exist, but trying to make it appear as something that's on the same level of TV, something almost every age group and gender participates in? Puh-lease.
Even if video games are becoming more mainstream, the way they're approached by an audience is different than things like television, movies, or books. Games are generally investments into learning curves, onlines communities, etc. Some people may know about video games but have no clue what a lootbox is.
Man in his mid 40s here. You are off your trolley with this assertion. The original Doom came out in the end of 1993. Wolfenstein 3D and Mortal Kombat came out in 1992. Those are not even the first widely known violent video games (look up in the infamous Chiller arcade game some time.) There is a not insubstantial demographic in their 40s, 50 and even 60s who are quite familiar with violent video games.
Yes, and every man in his 40 are like you. No options.
alright i guess i articulated my point fairly poorly. i guess i mean a game which doesn't necessarily have gore or realistic violence as it's main appeal having such violent gibs is kind of weird to see obviously doom and wolfenstein are significantly more violent than tf2, but in the realm of casual/lighthearted games that aren't going for a specifically dark angle, having gibs like this is pretty wild. only other game i can compare it to is loadout, may it rest in peace.
I was actually a bit shocked (well, comparably speaking) coming back from Overwatch at how violent Team Fortress really is. The low-poly head gibs (expecially the Heavy's) in particular are actually pretty disturbing. But that is more about the uncanny valley factor rather than the blood though.
I don't think age isn't the issue. Some people just never get heavily invested into games, outside of very casual stuff like playing whatever app on their phone for 5 minutes while they wait for their bus, or whatever. There's plent of people in their early 20's who just don't really understand gaming
yeah when i was sorting some payment stuff out for steam i tried to explain the steam workshop to the guy at the bank, i opened with "so you know Steam?" and he just gives me a straight faced "no" guy was like 23 years old and never heard of steam, what does he even do all day? socialize??
You aren't the average or the majority. I know ye olde game fellas exist, but trying to play it off like the majority?
Ah yes, loadout. Great gameplay, but the game kinda died after the bare butt sumo twerking and free-swinging (pixelated) dick cosmetics got old.
I remember back in the days when people played TF2 and the only guys who said it was "violent", were just some christian dads, bossy moms, or some vegan pussies. Nowadays, everything's offensive, everything should be rated M.
jesus christ you really are trying to fill asic's void aren't you
there's a difference between "offensive" and "violent" i'm not saying tf2 offends me, scares me or makes me upset in any other way but objectively it's quite violent. that's not a bad thing, in fact i'd argue that's what makes it as visually appealing as it is
It died after the devs added a not-ever-wanted PVE mdoe and ditched their PC playerbase for a nonexistent PS4 playerbase
wtf is an asic
Oh, I see how it is. https://ci.memecdn.com/3902099.jpg
Just pokin my head in here for a quick second to add my own two bits in. Not everyone in the world is a gamer, kinda a given fact right? TF2 is violent, but it's cartoon violence. People also have opinions on what is and isnt violent and thats totally cool, just dont try to force one each others opinions down each others throats. Try to make it valid or come to an agreement. Anywho, does anyone have any information about the update or what they might add when it does come out? We all know we are going to get contracts n skins but what kind of skins/contracts would you like to see? Maybe like new team work contracts, where you need a group to complete them? or maybe weapons that would look cool if they got skins? Or maybe the new update is a mvm/heavy update set in russia? Perhaps the robots are attacking heavys family and you must help defend the house? I know im just shootin the shit here but its just an idea to get us talkin about tf2 again in a more positive light. I would love to hear ideas on if it is a mvm update, what would you add/remove to make it more fun?
