TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V10 - It is not dead, is Aliven't

you guys are acting like this is the end of the world when this isn't even our longest wait
Honestly I feel like there hasn't been a multiplayer shooter since that gives me the same feeling. I feel like the same feeling could be brought back with a ton of revisions in steam's community features, more support for custom modes, workshop map que, and other such expansions. Not saying it will occur in all likelihood, but that such would possibly bring the game up to date.
I wouldn't mind if they implemented quality features like removing sniper, but i'm happy as things are as of now.
This is however the first time we’ve had literally nothing on the horizon after a major update that took forever and still in many ways flopped.
Anyone here who mostly plays a hitscan class able to share their common TF2 settings such as:
cl_interp
cl_interp_ratio
cl_updaterate
cl_cmdrate
Cuz I dunno what is fucking with my hitreg lately, but meatshots that connect and deal 19 damage has become common place for me as of late.
And I have no idea why, my aim hasn't changed at all and I'm pretty sure at the range I'm firing at the very least I should be dealing 40+ damage.
Use the mastercomfig settings.
So I'm considering trying out a config for TF2 since even with a GTX 1060 I still get some lower frames on the game. What config would you recommend for someone who wants to keep the quality on their war paints and models?
Hands down mastercomfig.
Shame Medium High doesn't keep ragdolls. Oof.
Just use the mastercomfig. Model quality isn’t terribly important when you’re winning fights because of a higher frame rate and shorter information processing time.
You can use higher qualities. Or the beta installer to keep the ragdolls on.
Stop fucking saying the update flopped unless you have objective and undeniable proof that it flopped.
*points to the amount of actual gameplay content we got vs dev time compared to previous even recent updates*
*points to pyro as a class being unchanged at a base level besides airblast and flames being more consistent*
*points to pyro’s class pack weapons being underpowered gimmicks that did nothing to aid his viability in competitive*
But yes, if you’re referring to the balance changes that were already finished yet bafflingly sat upon for 400 days so they could be released alongside the update, the (actually really beautiful) cosmetic theme, and all the other non-gameplay elements, then it was a huge success in those departments. I have nothing bad to say there.
I didnt say say the entire thing flopped, saying that just makes your argument easier. It just did in some of the more key things it was created for.
"I don't like how the balance changes turned out" does not equate to flopped.
I was going to write a strongly-worded and highly-exaggerated post about how I don't like most of the recent banner edits, but then the power cut off last night. I'm taking that as divine intervention telling me that was a shit plan.
I'm going to make a new version of the banner when the power comes back on, though. Anyone have any suggestions on how it should look?

Feature this man in some shape or form. The more time we go, use the latter versions of him.
Do literally anything more than just pasting a new number in a random font onto the banner and you'll be doing higher-quality stuff than the past banners (except the V8 one Exor did, that was pretty clever tbh).
A config, especially one that cuts down on graphical options, isn't likely to help you here. The 1060 isn't the problem- it's beyond overkill for TF2, and ideally you want to put as much load on it as possible.
High/max settings actually offload more to the GPU than the CPU, with the opposite being true for lowest settings. Overall, the most important determining factor for TF2 performance is in CPU power- you want strong single-core performance and at least 2 cores that can be dedicated to TF2. This makes AMD's Ryzen processors and Intel's Core processors easily the best for playing Team Fortress 2, but makes weaker Intel CPUs and AMD's older CPUs (with poor single-core but good multi-core performance) a poorer choice. Because many systems nowadays have much more GPU power than CPU power, many players report higher framerates at higher settings.
Here's my advice, as someone that's fucked with pretty much every performance option out there and used to play TF2 on a laptop I call "Old Melty". (Its name was very fitting.):
Try out -dxlevel 95 and -dxlevel 98. These don't actually change graphics too much from what I can tell, but they do open up software support for higher-end modern GPUs. (dxlevel 90/91, the default, is for DirectX 9 GPUs. Modern GPUs are built around DirectX 12.) The higher the dxlevel, the better the game should be able to utilize your extremely-modern GTX 1060. 95 should be a definite improvement all around, but 98 may have stability issues. Try out both and see which works for you.
Turn your settings up. Reflections are kinda busted from what I can tell, so you don't really need to max that out, but definitely max out models and textures. Your GPU is more than capable of handling these at high settings, and at low settings the CPU will get more load. You don't want that, since it's your bottleneck here.
Set an FPS cap. No, really- set an FPS cap. It should help alleviate the more dramatic dips you experience, especially if your frames are generally much higher than your refresh rate. I recommend starting in the 100 FPS range and tweaking as necessary. In general, I've found that FPS caps greatly increase stability when enabled on good machines that are pushing 60+ FPS very frequently. Don't set your FPS cap too close to your refresh rate, though- on a 60HZ display, 80 is probably the lowest I'd recommend.
Make sure your PC's performance profile is on "High Performance", not "Battery Saver" or "Balanced". The latter two options will more frequently throttle your CPU, which is a very likely cause of the dips you're experiencing.
If you're experiencing high CPU temps and usage when playing TF2- we're talking, say, 80C+ and 90+ utilization- clean out your system. The higher your temps, the more likely thermal throttling will kick in and cause dips in performance. A clean, cool PC is a happy PC.
In terms of configs, I'd also recommend Comanglia or Rhapsody over Mastercomfig right now. Mastercomfig was a bitch for me to set up, tweak and undo, and if raw performance isn't your problem (but stability is), I'd recommend using a DX9 Comanglia or Rhapsody config.
Hope all this helps.
TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V10 - Isn't Just Dying | It's being buried alive
Y'all've been spouting "TF2 dead" for so long I honestly have no idea if it actually is dying/dead.
Is it out of the top 10 most played games on steam?
Is its competitive scene nonexistent?
Does it take longer than 5 minutes to find a server in quickplay?
Are people not posting in this forum or the tf2subreddit anymore?
If no to ANY of the above questions, then no, it isn't dying, nor is it dead.
People have been saying that tf2 is dead since the scout update and even after it was announced that tf2 wont have grenades like tfc.
it should look good.
any game that isnt fortnite is currently dying
Obviously this means TF2 needs a battle royale mode
I'd probably just quit If TF2 got a battle royale mode instead of all the updates we need, to be honest.
isn't battle royale just a kid-friendly word for "deathmatch"?
I'd love a Quake style Official deathmatch with powerups in TF2. Fuck yes.
Basically Mannpower but without the dumb grappling hook and with smaller maps.
Someone will make a custom gamemode to play Battle Royale sooner or later. I think there are very small teams working on it, or they simply died because reasons.
Correct. That would be weapon equip stats and pyro pick rates in competitive that are telling us that little has changed to fix the class.
It is improper to ignore the reality of a situation because it’s uncomfortable or bleak, as is your uncivilized tone.
