TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V10 - It is not dead, is Aliven't

So you're posting the conclusion you've drawn in public but the actual reason for it has to be in private so you don't look as bad?
TF2 has reached the point that I'd be totally content if the Heavy Update ends up being the last major addition to the game. Toss in a few new items and/or maps from the workshop every couple of months, but I've long since accepted that we're never getting another old-school multi-page update ever again. It sucks, but we had an amazing run; name me another game that's grown from what TF2 was at launch to what TF2 is now, all over the course of a decade and counting.
Valve could outright say "yeah after this next one don't expect anything beyond a crate and maybe some balance tweaks every so often, we're done" and I'd still be playing TF2. It sucks to think that there'll be a time when we won't have an excuse to post "TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!!!" and all, but the game in its current state is still one of the best FPSes ever made. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but it'll take a hell of a lot more than Valve shutting down production to "kill" TF2.
They'll never admit they're "done" with it. They'd rather vanish without a word for ever than say it's finished.
mvm had this problem too.
If they kill the game's updates after the Heavy update, unless they fix literally EVERYTHING wrong with the game (which would be impossible to do in just one update, let's be real), I'll be incredibly disappointed. There's still so much wrong with the game that's literally been fixed for YEARS by the community. Animation issues, optimization issues, model issues, gameplay balance issues, map issues, the list goes on. The game will never be truly "complete" until at least a majority of these issues are fixed.
No, socks, that wasn’t the point.
Geel is presenting a very bleak outcome, with that being the option of choice for a lot of players.
You probably don’t know me very well, but I’ve been one of this game’s most stalwart defenders for nearly the entire time I’ve played it, made content for it, written about it, and hosted events for it.
But maybe i’m crazy enough to think that he isn’t completely right, and there are things we can do. Even if he is, I don’t see that as a reason to stop trying, or holding valve accountable.
That’s how much I love TF2, and want to see it prosper. Not to ignore reality, but to refuse to quit trying to change it.
TF2 can die any day, I'll still be playing it.
What do you think they're accountable for
Making sure the product they’re selling is in reasonable condition and a secure platform as advertised?
I know they don’t owe us anything, but is that too much to ask?
I haven't been playing TF2 for a while, but I still have some ideas for gameplay mods I want to create for TF2 specifically. It's weird to think about, but I consider TF2's "endgame" to be creating content for it instead of just getting incredibly good at it and playing competitively. I'm not sure if anyone who creates content for TF2 shares this sentiment, but I find creating stuff for my favorite game to be very fulfilling, even if not a lot of people will appreciate or enjoy it.
I'm sure that a lot of people will still play TF2, even if it's not officially-supported anymore. There's a few games where developer support was dropped off, or maybe even a new game or sequel was released from the same devs, but people still play the old version they love because of its sheer charm and the dedication the community has to it. As long as people play the game, and have something to get excited about (not necessarily related to anything official, but also community-related stuff like events or tournaments), it won't die, and it's simple as that.
Sadly, a lot of the friends I've met through TF2 have move on, and although I wholeheartedly respect their decision, I'll stick around until the game dies, and I hope I'll have people to share the journey with. I hope that you all, too, stick around as well, to see what the game's future looks like.
How is TF2 not in a reasonable condition? What security exploits are there that are currently impacting you?
I'd say even the Steam client is barely in "reasonable condition." I recently set up a low power PC and connected it to my TV. My experience thus far with Big Picture Mode and the Steam Link have been mediocre to downright terrible. The rollout of the new gee whiz improved steam chat has been similarly disastrous. One of my machines is perennially in offline mode. Another is stuck on "invisible." Weirdly, my Mac Laptop (on which I don't really play games) has no trouble with the Steam client chat but gets logged out of the web chat window several times per day.
This is a company that's worth between 10 and 20 billion dollars. They should be able to manage a functional client for the service they purport to offer their customers. Failing that, they should hire new blood until they are able to deliver a working product.
I would be glad to talk about the latter part somewhere other than a public message board, for reasons that I think you already understand.
I also get the feeling that you’re going to claim that whatever I say is a dismissably subjective opinion, so it would be remiss of me to waste time explaining how things like the lack of a functioning tutorial, optimization for modern computers, and visual engine glitches like the multiple weapons/invisible players or incorrect item values assigned on inspection (soldier is carrying: level 12 flare gun- 100% crits on burning targets) would be detrimental to the player experience.
Still can't use the new chat in big picture mode, might be the new Portal 2 trading "coming soon"
There's a major game breaking bug in the game that prevents Heavy from being a good class.
Got an alert for nearly 200 new posts in this thread, and actually expected there to be some information about the update
If there were info on the update, you would have heard it way before you even opened the thread.
if you need an update i'm still single but interested in anything but sniper mains.

anything, you say? 👀
How do you feel about Medic mains?
What are some of the loose ends/mysteries still unsolved by the comic series waiting on its concluding issue?
I'm counting at least the following:
Where is Olivia? She's been seriously absent for quite some time.
Where is TFC Medic? Never made an appearance and he's only mentioned, what, once in a passing remark?
Where is TFC Engineer? The conversation between his buddy Sniper and TF2 Spy leaves ambiguous whether said Spy killed him before disguising as him.
What will Darling do with his plan of keeping near-extinct animals alive with Australium since, well... there's no Australium besides the paintjob of a launched rocket ship.
What happened to Sniper's dad? He bailed with the submarine that still had Eyelander in it, so I can't see him fading into obscurity.
And the biggest of them all, what on earth does Administrator have to resolve before her death? She mentions an old debt, but with who? All of Mann family is dead, with the exception of Olivia whom we don't even know if is a blood relative of Gray - besides, what would Administrator have to do with a kid who seems like a minor presence in every sense of the word? And of Hale family there's only Saxton around, and he's never really been inaccessible through all the years, so why now of all times?
I'd really want them to fix the sticky exploit and do something about autobalance.
Wasn't the last rework to autobalance was giving people a chance to switch teams and if they didn't they were automatically dragged onto the other's team?
I loved that system, I have no idea why they switched back to forced autobalance.
From what i seen playing casual there were times where teams were 2 or 3 players short with no one else deciding to join the other team for the rest of the match apart from clueless people caring for xp or people genuinely wanting to balance the teams but it seems they were not that many to the point where they had to reverse the system back.
Or people bitched about it in the steam forums or reddit, that could also be the case.
I can’t have an opinion on something that doesn’t exist.
I didn't even realize eyelander was still on the sub until you mentioned it
sniper's dad is fucking dead
I'm really excited to see Olivia again
Hopefully with an army of robots
I think you missed the part where valve has no more idea where they're headed with their ideas than we do.
