TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V10 - It is not dead, is Aliven't

how noble of valve to constantly bestow 2-3 case drops on me every day or so. They're all completely outdated, effortless and nothing short of an automated insult that screams "spend ur hard earned money on this horrible thing" but I thank valve for their merciful generosity and kindness. I am not worthy of such attention.
I'm one of those losers who seriously thought Meet the Pyro was going to be awesome and not a joke and got, well, *burnt*, so I'm not holding my breath on this.
More subverting expectations
you know how valve loves being the pioneer and ground breaker to things that other companies wouldn't dare to do? how about they delete all their money-grubbing ingame shops and cases/crates from their IPs? the following praises and reputation gains would be well worth whatever trivial money amounts they would lose.
make valve great again
If Valve cared about reputation they wouldn't do what they do and would do what they don't do.
They're the auteurs who don't care about fame or reputation in their eyes.
Got me early today twice in a single round of harvest koth. First time I was nearly full uber, then it hit me like this:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/948460856051370319/E6D90BF35D6E9DBEB8A6502ABB3F977F0BBEDB70/
The game was pretty much dead at that point anyway... So for the first time in years I actually choose to abandon instead since Valve is all A-OK with that.
But currently though, seeing Auto-Balance being required every round, more often then not multiple times in a single round, is just further proof that auto-balance, at least by itself is not the answer to lopsided and unbalanced matches.
It was fine, what sucks is the following flood of "OH THE PYRO? HAHA JUST GIVE HIM/HER/IT A BUNCH OF WACKY GOOFY CARTOON ITEMS LOL BALLOONICORN!!1!" shit that followed.
Pyro used to run the gamut between silly goofball stuff and more serious straight-laced stuff, but after Meet the Pyro, it feels like all of his character traits were flushed away for whatever would be most "random". It feels like a lot of people stopped listening after they heard "unicorns and rainbows", while the comic actually gets the juxtaposition across in a way that feels kinda sinister (i.e. the moment where he sees Smokey the Bear warning that "fire is no one's friend", while everyone else sees him just coldly mashing a bear's skull into a fine paste long after it'd already died).
Being able to freely abandon losing matches and simply requeue certainly doesn't help. In the era of community servers, this wasn't possible; leaving a server meant that you would need to find another and hope it met your criteria/wasn't full.
Ever since I started back in 2012, even as a new player I though it was fucking dumb that the fire axe was red on both teams.Just that change alone makes the pack 11/10.
are blue fire axes even a thing? I know that in-context isn't that much of a deal given you can kill someone with a pizza-textured fish, but I can see why they never made a BLU variant of the fire axe.
Probably because all firemen have red fireaxes and it seemed fitting to give it to the pyro which also latter got a fireman hat, cant really think another reason other than laziness.
I have no clue why they brought back autobalance.
I get it, stomps and tilted matches were a problem. Autobalance ususally doesnt fix these, I just watch people get dragged to the losing team, get highly discouraged and quit the match, thus starting the Auto balance cycle over again.
Its not really a solution to anything.
you cant even wait till you die with the new autobalance so its more annoying than it ever was
That BLU weapons mod made me realize BLU Spy has a different cigarette.
Just bring back the "you can choose to join the other team" option, but instead of a fuckin xp boost (because we all know how much people are absolutely crazy for their TF2 casual level), give them a guaranteed drop at the end of the game, whether that be a guaranteed random weapon, or a guaranteed scrap metal. That's about the only thing I could think of that would actually be incentive for anybody, since there's not much else anyways. Maybe if contracts become the new weapon drop system, give a free bonus 25 points for whatever contract you currently are working on? But that's assuming the TF Team will even add that as a feature (fingers crossed).
It's mostly because they have nothing to address the reason lopsided matches happen in the first place. By itself, auto-balance is and will always be garbage and there really is no way around it. People can tolerate it maybe every once in a while, but games become unbalanced and lopsided so frequently that people don't like getting punished for the acts of other people.
As long as they don't attempt to deter ragequitters, who are the actual cause of unbalanced and lopsided matches, unbalanced games will always be a problem. During that brief time were we had game penalties in place after Meet Your Match kicked off, I had match after match of full games from start to finish. The moment they removed game penalties though, games started becoming unbalanced almost instantly over and over again.
Auto-Balance is fine to keep in afterwards, more so if backfill isn't speed up. People will unfortantly always leave no matter what. But it cannot be the only way to attempt to "fix" unbalanced games.
So, Guard Dog. How well would it actually handle in TF2?
Team Fortress 2 (Its update page for a reference)
It was given a lot of mechanics, so would it be an actually viable class, a poorly-usable class, or anything between?
The Guard Dog is showcased with three weapons: The Hanger, an SMG-like primary weapon which has at least 100 rounds; The Helper, a device that allows the Guard Dog to carry health and ammo pickups to teammates; and the Hater, a melee weapon which, upon use, causes the Guard Dog to bite an enemy. The Hater features the ability to leap a short distance, similar to the Chargin' Targe, Splendid Screen, and Tide Turner.
The Guard Dog possesses two unique skills. The first, "Track'N'Down", would allow players to sniff the fallen weapon or ragdoll of a player and be able to track them down after their respawn regardless of whether they have changed classes or are disguised. This is represented by an arrow located in the upper-left hand of the player's HUD.
The Guard Dog's second unique skill is a cooperative taunt, "Jarate Dispenser", which dispenses Jarate to any Sniper player.
Though without any direct mentions of its speed and health, it might be tougher to really measure the class in its usefulness. My personal hunch is the health and speed of Scout, maybe even a bit faster, but idk.
There really is no perfect solution when a large percentage of players only care about winning, full stop. This was most evident back when the majority of the player base was on servers instead of in casual - there were so many shit servers out there that granted immunity to autobalance to their friends or people who paid money. It's why I almost entirely stayed on official valve servers during that era of the game.
What I would give for more people to have the attitude I have, where a closely fought match is always more exciting and enjoyable than winning a lopsided one. I suppose that's expecting too much of people period, though - if huge swaths of the population are super competitive about fucking sports teams that they don't even play for, of course they'll be even more so in a video game they actually have control over.
People would tolerate it more if it wasn't needed about every game to kick in. The problem I see it as though is that people are very inconsiderate of those around them in games this day and age. Wither they don't listen to advice and bring their team down, or they leave on a whim because they're not being satisfied regardless. These type of people are nothing more then a detrimental to any type of game that is team oriented.
Generally these type of people should be sticking to either free for all games that are not 1 on 1 games ( fighting ) or singleplayer. Not hoop online and expect people to cater to their every needs then completely ignore or dismiss them when it comes to the needs of others.
Another counter to Spy seems like it'd only do more harm than good.
The only skill I could see genuinely being useful and interesting is the carrying med supplies to other classes, but healing is already a significant problem in balancing (Concheror, Mad Milk, etc).
The Track'N'Down would make it the ultimate spy destroyer
Daily reminder that typing "retry" in console doesn't defend the fact that Autobalance is an awful Casual feature that does not reward the player in any way and does not even balance the team properly.
Disregarding whether it'd be a good gameplay addition, I'd rather not have to kill cute doggos in TF2, thank you very much.
But you'd kill majestic yetis?

(Joke aside, you raise a point there.)
I definitely do not want to see something like this implemented. Aside from the absurd sounding weapons, the hitbox would be similar to that of a level 1 sentry "moving at the speed of scout".
Call me a hater but I genuinely dislike the demoknight subclass. Its silly and perfect for weird servers, but anything else and its just a major nuisance in the hands of a patient player. Giving a similar charge ability to this smaller hitboxed class in addition to your estimates of it having scout hp/movement speed or faster, would let players do the most obnoxious dodging you could imagine. I thoroughly enjoy directing demoknights with 4 rockets, only to see them use their charge to run back to spawn.
The TF team made the right choice leaving female characters out of the game. It made for a much more consistent silhouette/hitbox system. (that breaks when spy disguises as something... oh and hats)
Daily reminder that typing "retry" in console when you're about to be autobalanced means you care more about your ego than balancing the teams
Tell that to all the juvenile individuals that requeue after they start to lose.
Imagine just wanting to play with your friends on the same team.
Imagine though that instead of ignoring them, putting them down, trying to pretend they didn't exist, people took a second to try and help those newer players get better at the game instead though. Sometimes you can help them understand by talking to them or making recommendations, sometimes you can help them grow by preforming well infront of them. Wouldn't we all be better in the long run if we at least made an attempt to assist in the bottom line of players though?
Valve should simply make sourcemod part of the game officially already.
It prevents chat flooding, the anticheat is better, and it auto-scrambles at the round end based on things like the winning team frag ratio exceeding sensible parameters (i.e. the losing team being farmed at every point).
But no. We have this crappy autobalance that balances you off nothing. Time to admit the community does a better job than the game’s actual developers.
