earplugs are a HH's best friend, so you can bust out your funky beats and not get cockblocked by a roar
style points if your jamming tunes KO the monster
The tunes are actually the strongest attacks of the HH with highest damage and stun value.
Treat your tunes like ammunition, use them to do damaging attack to the monster's face and roll to cancel the song if needed, no need to force yourself to perform the whole song for the buff most of the time. (aside from self improvement) Performance attack after jabbing is a really good move for keeping buffs up, but not for damage.
Different performance attack has different ending lag for when you can roll. The direction less one allow you to roll right after the attack if you don't perform the song. The forward one has long start lag if you don't chain it after forward slam/superpound. The refrain attacks are mostly used if the monster is downed depending on your position.
Backward Slam is a versatile attack that hits high so it's really good for hitting monster's head, but requires some practice. No need to force yourself to hit the monster's head all the time, you can always go for the legs to charge up the tunes before finding an opportunity to hit its head with a strong performance attack. (though it's still the best if you are able to hit the head all the time if possible)
Usually you just pick one tune (e.g. Scoutfly Up since its consisted of three Note 3s) that you find to be the most comfortable to use and revolve your gameplay around that, but don't use the Self Improvement tune for performance attack since it does a lot less damage than all the other tunes.
What everyone said.
Altho, if you're more of a visual type person, here's a pretty good tutorial.

I should try it
knowing everyone's buffed up to their eyeballs on everything feels so... complete
also the direction you hold while playing your song changes the move that you do

Goddamnit Todd, you've done it again!
I'm ready for some new fuckin' content man. Arch-Temps are neat but they seem like a bandaid while they get their shit together on actual content.

Critical Juncture is such a great Hunter Art, it feels almost like a waste to use the other arts because this one's just so satisfying to land and so powerful. Too bad I suck with Longsword though.
I'd like to see some new monsters added that aren't just a wyvern. Rajang, Arzuros, Glavenus, any of the crustaceans.
give me spider boi
They created a new wyvern type with Najarala and then did nothing else with it ever, nows a good time to add a new snake wyvern alongside him.
Also bring back the bug bois
To whoever said "All wind pressure negated" worked on Kushala, nope, Kush still trips me with its tornadoes and they still do damage.
And yes, please, and the terrestial Leviathans too. The selection of water and sleep monsters is pitiful
The tornadoes still do damage because they're still an attack. They just won't push you with the gust which stuns you for fucking ever.
I just want my monsterwaifu Seltas Queen back. You don't even have to bring regular Seltas back, 'cause they said they really hated doing the bugs iirc, just make her chuck small monsters at you instead.
That makes sense, tho the black wind that surrounds the immediate body of Kushala still trips you even with that on, so i guess only poison (and maybe elderseal?) negates that
All Wind Pressure Negate should still work even for that. Are you sure it's All Wind Pressure Negate and not just Wind Pressure Negate?
nobody said negate all wind pressure prevented damage.
and the only time it staggers you is if you're running directly through the center of one of the tornadoes.
also make sure it's ALL WIND PRESSURE NEGATED, as it's different from just Windproof.
I'm 100% sure, I'm using the Queen Vespoid horn which has "ALL wind pressure negate", other horns seem to have "wind pressure negate" only
Speaking of bugs, I'm really looking forward to the Ahtal-Ka fight, even though I'm a long way away from that. Fighting an Egyptian mantis that pulls out and pilots a giant mecha to fight you with sounds fun as all hell.
Man, would I wish Zorah and Xeno were more fun then they appear.
Zorah is just tedious because there isn't any variation to his quest. It's just point to point. You can even ignore Nergi at times. I don't even know what he does.
But Xeno is an overall annoyance. Unless there's something I'm missing when fighting it, I feel like it takes so long even with 4 hunters.
Speaking of fucking annoying, fuck Temp Kirin.
Look at this screen. See that light? We fucking traded after 44mins.

If that shot had not killed his ass, I would've waster nearly an hour on him, tediously aiming at his face because it's the only place you can damage this fuck 3/4 of the time. I'm just so glad I managed to beat him on my 1st try with my second character cause the last time I tried, it took me an entire evening.
Is he even worth hunting for anything special? Cause he's in my shitlist.
You need wind resistance and trip maxed in order for him not to do anything.
Not rly I think. Maybe for some really specific builds IIRC, but other than that, nope.
I don't get Zorah. It feels like you don't even need to damage the cores on his body, And that the only thing that matters is the part with the cannons. So basicaly fire the balistas at the chest to get any items you might need from him, and then fire as many cannons as possible, plus the dragonator.
Xeno is just fucking boring. I have no idea how I severed its tail last time, but hey it happened, somehow... The thing's so big and yet its so hard to aim at because its always moving. Other than that, he's just a spounge.
Which sucks because the armor looks fucking cool and the gem is kind of needed for some important stuff here and there.
I killed like 9 teostra and finally got a gem; only then did my brain tell me I didn’t actually want the thing I was trying to get it for.
I think Xeno is fun enough for a nice, easy break from harder hunts. Bring Bows and Pierce HBGs, bonus points for Wyvernsnipe and shots like Dragon, Sticky, and Cluster.
Me and the wyvern gem
"ARGH I NEED WYVERN GEM"
game: "kill Kadachi 10 times in investigations and I might give you one"
*gives 2 later in a random investigation after doing 15 for the single one I needed*
Wyvern Gems are frustrating, i'd rather farm a monster for an induvidual unique item or gem rather than 3/4ths of the weapons in the game needing the same kind.
I imagine Xeno could be more entertaining for ranged users but as a GS/Hammer main it's just a chore. Just an endless cycle of running back and fourth chasing the front paws and/or tail with nary a chance to land a proper full combo sequence.
