What a fantastic campaign. The characterisations were fantastic as I said above, they only got stronger as the game went on. Only complaints are that some bosses felt a bit spongy, like you'd have the same QTE happen again and again and again. And fuck the stealth sections. Very sad they actually killed May off. I liked the final fight with Octavius too, fights with more talk than fight are always winners and this was no exception. I was intrigued by the fact that Norman didn't actually turn out to be the Goblin, nor was there any mention of the Goblin whatsoever. Hell, Norman seemed like he had genuine affection for his son which is unprecedented in any Goblin story I can recall. Harry was encased in 'something' that didn't seem to be Devils Breath, but reacted almost like a Symbiote.
The game really felt like a love letter to Spiderman, you could see the influences and nods to all the classic spiderman media all over the place. The perching from Shattered Dimensions, the countless nods to Spiderman 2, all the Netflix/MCU places slipped in everywhere. Only real complaint (that I'd happily see solved with DLCs) is more suits. I really wanted the webbed-armpit suit and the more styalised Spectacular Tom Defalco suit to name but a few (no Bagman, whyyyy). Hard not to love this game though, it's glorious and the game Spidey and his fans deserve.
The game is at its best when you're free to swing around and approach things however you want. The more linear sections are kind of janky. If you don't do them exactly how the game wants you to, you're probably going to fail the mission. The prison sequence they showed at E3 is a perfect example. I tried jumping through a small opening by just running and jumping through it, but an invisible wall was preventing me from going through. I had to go back and zip to a specific piece of rubble, and then I got the prompt to zip through the opening. I hate that shit.
Free roaming the city is really fun. I'm liking the collectibles since the game isn't packed full of them, and that I can just do them while I'm zipping around doing the main story/side quests anyway.
So far I'm sitting at 22% completed, and I don't think I'm even close to the end of the game. But I'm still having tons of fun.
Also the sable troops are just obnoxious to fight. All of their gimmicks are annoying, the bright red lasers hurt my eyes and they literally never stop shooting on the hardest difficulty, to the point where the game's dodge system cannot keep up. It's complete nonsense and if the game decides to not let you target their auto turrets you're pretty much done for in seconds.
I really like that the enemies actually try to kill you. Having to dodge gunfire, rockets, and grenades on top of the melee combat all at once is really intense. The only problem is that there's a very small window at the end of dodges and takedowns where enemies can hit you and you can't move, it's fine against melee enemies since they seem to avoid attacking if you do a takedown, but ranged enemies are out for blood 100% of the time.
Those jetpack assholes can fuck right off.
Difficulty ramps up when you have a lot of different enemy types to deal with too. If it was just melee dudes, or all ranged dudes, gameplay would be pretty easy. Having a stew of brutes, melee, ranged, and whatever really changes the dynamics of fights, and makes them much more reactive and tactical than "dodge when spider senses".
I'm a huge fan of the Spiderman 2 game, so I was wondering if this game has the charge jumps and web acceleration mechanics that it had.
scarlet spider is the coolest costume hands down

And that's 100% completion. Can't wait for the DLC.
I know the charge jump is a skill, not sure about swing acceleration
Swing acceleration is not in the game as it was in Spider-Man 2, but you can still jump to boost your speed horizontally or vertically based on the angle of your swing.
You can also use point launches to speed up and then swing to maintain momentum.
Nor was there any mention of the Goblin whatsoever.
Well, there are the three prototype grenades in the secret room in his penthouse.
Really enjoying it so far. Can anyone who's finished it tell me how far I am in the main story? Just got to the part where you play as MJ at Grand Central Terminal
Just made it to what I assume is the start of the third act of the game; been doing tons of side content and near the level cap. Been loving every second of the game; and now that I'm much much stronger combat is an absolute device fucking with enemies with tons of gadgets and satisfying combos and tactics. Okay, maybe every second is a lie as some of the side content just feels like busywork (Specifically the Black Cat side missions though at least that has a good reward).
What's really surprised me is the story and the characters in this game and how engaged I am with it. I literally had to stop playing after my marathon sessions today after reaching a crazy moment in the story and the payoff worked very well with me and now I want to see how it all ends. It definitely starts as a slow boil, but each act feels like it's gotten more dramatic so I can't wait to see where this ends.
Really hoping Insomniac's next project after the DLC is the sequel. With more refined side content (Note: I actually enjoy most of the side content and this is one of those games I want to 100%), it could be flawless.
Boost launches and double web zips with the appropriate skills turn swinging around into a real blast, I tell you.
Just finished the story, it was pretty good but I really feel like they should have not included the MJ/Miles sneaking missions. They were was too slow and boring when all I wanted to do was swing around hitting people. The one in Osborn's penthouse was especially bad, took ages to find the key for Harry's bedroom.
Seeing as the game makes a few sneaky mentions of the symbiote and venom with spiderman mentioning the concept of Lethal Protector, I'd love a Venom game set in San Francisco.
Game would be kinda boring if it was just the same fights over and over again. These missions break it up a bit, I struggled for a second finding the key at first, but I knew he said on the recorded message that he was keeping the key with his wife so I went back and double checked everything with her in it and found it.
I didn't hate the puzzles either, I enjoy puzzles in general so I can see how others might not like them. For the chemical ones I noticed if you started with any of the chemicals that just had two choices and then went to the three choices afterwards it was a lot easier to figure out the right combos. I never spent more than like two minutes on one puzzle.
I found that key before I even found the door it unlocked. The game makes it very obvious what items you can pick up and I have a habit of spinning all of them around in every game that lets me do so.
I liked the stealth missions as well since they really help put to scale what Spiderman does by grounding you. The hostage crisis mission was stellar and I loved every second of it.
Man, the last trophy I need to get to platinum this game is the one for 100% completion. I just have the random crime missions left. I feel like I was able to get most of these trophies pretty effortlessly, but those crime missions are really grindy.
Oh man that ending was really something else.
"Peter. PETER" Also May dying was really sad.
Game arrived today finally (ordered Thursday) and seeing as the web swinging was so fun I spent most of my first few hours going for the towers and backpacks, but was surprised to see I'd apparently finished 22% of the game. I'm only a few story missions in, I'm guessing (hoping) the collectables rapidly add up that completion percentage, since it feels like the story has barely started yet - I'll probably pace myself more now.
Also I'm pretty sure I killed this poor man

Well my only two trophies remaining rely on getting crimes to pop up.
This is going to be boring.
That story was absolutely phenomenal. Like, as good if not better than all of the stories from the movies. I absolutely loved it. I could write like a whole essay on the themes of the movie, how it grapples with Peter struggling to be his own man, and how being Spider-Man just kicks the shit out of his life.
I feel like this game was originally gonna be some sort of Amazing Spider-Man spinoff or something given the strange similarities it holds with those movies and the fact that Peter Parker pretty much looks like Andrew Garfield's depiction, which makes sense as the game's development predates the release of Homecoming and the like.
If you hang a guy from one of the Sable watchtowers and then pull the tower down it doesn't bring the guy down with it.

The cops are going to have a hard time getting this guy down.
If you are going for a plat trophy don't be an IDIOT like me and buy suit mods before buying all the suits, I now have to go through and try to get gold on a lot of the challenges... ugh
The only challenge I had real issue with is the combat one in Central Park. I golded everything else BUT that one, and I can't even get close.

pretty disappointing that you can't actually interact with the statue of liberty or ellis island at all. I know they only wanted to focus on the main city but getting to ellis island and climbing the statue was one of my favorite memories from Spider-man 2
I was also able to run across the Brooklyn bridge. Brooklyn had no collisions either
