Any official Source on that? We have one for the TF Team size, but dont know any for CS or Dota. This isnt to doubt they are slow, but just out of curiosity.
It's incredibly hard to develop for this game. The code is undocumented, and is a mess.
I'm pretty out of the loop regarding TF2 unboxing and cosmetics - can anyone explain why the Gun Mettle Cosmetic Case's value has risen so much this year? Even outside Scream Fortress its price on the Market is 30+ cents whereas not logn ago, it used to be at the minimum 3 cents. What makes it so special compared to other seasonal Cosmetic Cases like the Tough Break, Mayflower, Rainy Day, Blue Moon and Winter ones? I understand the Halloween-exclusive unusual effects play a part with cases like the Gargoyle one, but the Gun Mettle one's been bottom-tier value-wise for years, what's changed?
The cases dropped for a way shorter time than the Tough Break ones, thus you have less supply - given the case has some decent hats + the cursed banana item, it has decent demand too. The rest you can figure on your own.
the potted plant made it to the smash bros roster.
Somebody already made the joke in that thread.
Which is also their fault.
They cannot hire someone to only work on TF2, who would want to when the code's so shit and undocumented
I'm guessing either the building they're in or Valve themselves hire a third party company to do the janitorial work.
tf2 is(was?) a chimera of gameprojects and a testing ground for new systems and shit this kind of policy made tf2 one of the longest supported games ever and also brought a lot of cool shit like mvm at the same time it makes the game shit to develop for because you fix the pyro's flare gun texture and whoops suddenly the heavy can heal himself with dropped sandviches again its a double edged sword
So what's the theme now? Fashion madness? The outside world seen from the eyes of a Sims? I'm lost.
two halloween-fueled videos coming through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMDgHPQ0YfI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1f9pg54yfQ
The SFM video really well shows the horrors of the Source Engine.
i got my first unusual hat unbox after playing this game for nearly ten years. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/951843163527804367/EE6C2B415842F29C4125DAA264E0A97D17E6172A/
i remember a time when KGB was the most clowny item in the game and it looked like a bad joke
I guess the best response to this would be combining the information you pick up by looking at the players and getting a read on how experienced they are (following the list of observations I made and also taking note of hours if the player's in-game behavior warrants your suspicions). In the scenarios below it really only ever took a single death or witnessing the movement to tell these were not humans. With the amount of games I've played and the hours I've put into it I tend to pick up on the oddities rather quickly. After all I've somehow subjected myself to over 9 thousand games of Casual since the release of Meet Your Match and who knows how many during the ol Quick Play era and connecting directly to Valve servers from the browser. To really get the point across that experience can change a person's opinions for better or worse, have a look at something I've been seeing for the past 3 years. I'm not all over the place on the internet on a daily basis but I can't recall anyone else noticing these apart from the short lived Cat Bots that were so blatant that even if you turned your monitor off you could tell the server was being invaded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HvA-UbWeR0 I apologize for the monotonous commentary. Its the first video of this nature that I've done but felt the topic was pretty important to cover.
Wow, why the fuck is it possible to clear the chat? That's a huge oversight. I didn't realise the possibility hackers could be bot accounts, I didn't think you could cheat so hard the game literally plays itself for you. All this shit just to make money off the item economy. Jesus.
With knowing how complex the schemes scammers will come up with and the time they will spend trying to make money off people illegitimately, I wasn't all that surprised people would continue to seek an an opportunity to reach for the extremes for cheats and farming items. Part of what made the pre-quickplay era "stupid-proof" was the natural spreading of new players throughout available servers. This lead to a stronger, quick to learn, and overall smarter community. I'm fairly certain if this kind of stunt was happening around 2009, people would've immediately picked up on it and called it out. But the Casual Match Maker is a relatively convenient place to test these things out nowadays because more often than not, the majority of players in the server will have under 700~ hours. ELO sure is convenient ain't it!
they have a bind that just fills a chat message with a bunch of newline characters. if you know what's going on, you can just scroll up and find the rest of the chat still there way above it.
Seems like an easy fix would be to not allow newline characters, especially since there's no need to have them at all since Enter/Return by default sends your message. Then again this is Valve.
It was a fool's policy, as the outcome speaks for itself. TF2's level of support over course of its lifespan will still pale in comparison with Dota 2 and CS:GO when both of those games reach TF2's age. Dota 2 is in its fifth year, correct? TF2's level of support began to wind down during its fifth year--do you predict the same happening to Dota 2?
You can fix this issue by compiling the model with $mostlyopaque Won't fix everything, but helps most of the time. The only translucent objects that can sort properly are world brushes with a translucent texture.
That bug is different and I've only ever seen it in SFM something has a transparent material causes the entire object to also be transparent. What's happening int he game now is only the transparent mats are being rendered behind things while the non transparent stuff is still the same. It's most notable on the bubble pipe as the glass will vanish but the black rim and pipe are completely fine.
I think I'd notice if a scout has suddenly flinch-aim and haven't really seen any of those on EU Servers. That is still pretty wacko, though. That still... doesn't really change my opinion. Quickplay still had no indication of balance or skill level. Do you really expect me to inspect every single gamer and then go "yub, this is a good server." - What about players which aren't as experienced and don't really have the ability to do this? We already went over this point, and Id honestly just accept that you think quickplay is better and I don't. Still, that bot issue is wack. Not casual exclusive, though. Might wanna shoot the TF Devs and email of that.
Well, this just happened... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r96FGlMfmhw

Some comp cunt deleted their super duperoonie medals and we're meant to care about them getting rid of virtual medals in a game.
