I feel like this is one of those classic "don't let leaks get you too excited' situations. Coming in with an open mind, there was slight disappointment throughout the direct because of the perception of Spirits just being a gimmick mode like Smash Tour, and no confirmed story mode in sight. But at the end, with the Piranha Plant reveal (probably the simultaneous best and worst Smash character reveal ever) and the beautiful main theme rendition and cutscene for an actual story mode, even if it is about "fun more than story", I think it was a pretty good Direct.

Like jesus it's gross entitlement. They didn't trick you, they didn't bamboozle you, and no, Pirhana Plant isn't some "wasted slot" because I see that tunneling right into that zone (fuck dude that bit was hilarious). The worst they did was changes to online mode (ehhhh) and pre-order DLC. And even for the DLC they said "yes, we know you should know before you buy, we know this is a bit sketchy, but if you're not comfortable with it, please don't get it."
Do I want Banjo & Kazooie? Fuck yeah, and I'm looking forward to the DLC character reveals. Until that day, I'm greatly looking forward to getting a Switch, Smash, and having a fuck load of fun with it.

I actively dislike the Piranha plant, and I'm a fucking Mario Mark. Like, it's actively a frustrating choice when even in the Mario franchise there are better characters

My god the toxic mentality in this thread.
I mean, supposed leak causing hype and turning out to be fake doesn't invadilate what was already in. Kencineroar being a bummer doesn't mean fucking Ridley and K.Rool aren't in alongside every veteran, and Incineroar itself looks interesting to play as. Piranha Plant... eh, what the fuck?
To be honest I would have prefered something akin to melee's adventure mode over Event Matches mixed with the "orders" from 4, but we got a proper Classic back. And, all in all, it is fucking smash, with 74 characters at the moment, 75 soon after release, and 80 in a year. I guess I'll enjoy it anyway.
I'm not even mad that the Grinch leak is fake or Incineroar is legit.
I'm mad they chose to make Isaac an assist trophy and fucking Piranha Plant as a preorder bonus fighter.
I got Ridley, K.Rool, and Simon, so I personally have no issues with the roster. Getting rid of the trophies was dissappointing, but if there's more to the Adventure mode than what we're shown (like character interaction), I might be interested. But boy, was this entire direct lame as hell.
