There's an option to search with no particular ruleset if you want instant queue.
Considering how much Castlevania and Metal Gear content we have and despite Konami's bad publicity I think they were pretty accommodating to Sakurai. Meanwhile afaik all we have from Final Fantasy is everything we already had from the last game.

yeaah, rest assured that from the very beginning the community will try to make online rule-sets that will try to appease to the majority of the fanbase. this is another case in ultimate where sakurai just gave us the tools of the job and said to us: "alright, now do whatever you want to do it with them"

tbh i wouldnt be surprised if sakurai was like "all of these assist trophies are being upgraded into full fighters" in the distant future because this direct confirmed way too many blatantly wanted characters as assist trophies lol
o hey apparently they changed one of villager's alts in this latest build https://i.imgur.com/P8hDxgE.jpg also https://i.imgur.com/YjNxm1Q.jpg
Did we ever figure out if it's PP plus five characters or if it's PP plus four characters?
I´m mostly dissapointed that Spirits looks boring as fuck and two characters I don´t give a shit about got confirmed last, but overall I´m still pretty happy with the roster. It just kinda ended on a sour note. I guess this is the moment where I start hoping they upgrade some ATs into actual fighters because frankly all characters I´d still like to see playable are already ATs by now. Who am I kidding, the new FE protag is going to be DLC #1
pp plus five new chars
Speak for your self homie, my Incinnibun will fuckin kick your shit in and sun and moon.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Direct unleashes new details “There are still elements of today’s presentation that hold a lot of secrets for players to discover, but with the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate only a little more than a month away, this Nintendo Direct presentation is a final look at one of the most massive games Nintendo has ever produced,” said Doug Bowser. Adventure Mode: World of Light: There may not be a single-player adventure quite like Adventure Mode: Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but something has caused the numerous video game characters in the game to lose their bodies and transform into spirits. While today’s Nintendo Direct video provides some sneak peeks, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, wants to keep parts of this new adventure mode secret until the game launches…
At first I was a smidge disappointed at Spirits replacing Trophies, but I think the concept is growing on me. I do think the concept would be better in execution if more of the characters were based on cult classic characters people wanted, like Ashley, Geno, Waluigi, Isaac, Ray, Chibi Robo, etc. though.
"New" and "Slot" are not "Revolver" and "Ocelot" 6/10
You know, I wouldn’t mind much if the characters, say Zero Suit Samus being Shantae, took more of a look at the character they’re representing in color. Like her shirt being purple and short being red.
I kinda like the Spirits mode more now that I re-watched it. A bunch of events based on what Spirit it is. I like the theming of it, and I always loved event mode.
spirits is basically events coupled with crazy/master orders from 4, and a sprinkle of the stickers shit from subspace
PP being in Smash unveiled a passion for them I didn't even know I have hes so precious and must be protected
I really hope there’s at least a gallery where you view the spirits and it has descriptions like trophies did.
Anyone playing PP not named Audrey II online isn't really trying.
Some thoughts on the roster size, I initially predicted that the roster would be sized at 10 newcomers total. I was off by one (not including PP), but I was off by how many would be echos and the existence of DLC (I predicted no DLC as the roster was already massive, Sakurai probably wanted to move on, and having more characters would go against the "Ultimate" motif). Posting my old (base roster) predictions for fun, way back from E3: Speaking of roster predictions, somebody online posted a Character Select Screen mockup of the whole Ultimate roster so far on one CSS, and that got my creative juices flowing for my own predictions. I predict 10 overall newcomers/Echos, totaling out at 75 total characters (Echo Fighters included). With PK Trainer and Mii Fighters condensing their multiple movesets into single CSS slots, this would be 71 Character Select Screen slots (plus the "Random" button), arranged in a 12x6 Grid. (Well, I did say I started this by looking at a CSS mockup.) Newcomers: Currently Revealed 1) Inklings 2) Daisy (Echo) 3) Ridley Predictions - I predict Sakurai will (largely) focus on characters from 2013-2015 releases that he missed during WiiU/3DS DLC. (See this Graph I found from lurking ResetEra.) 4) Elma from XenoBlade - (Sakurai was seen buying a mech toy to use as reference for his next game) 5) Chibi Robo 6) Rhythm Heaven rep (probably Chorus Kids) 7) DK Rep [either K. Rool or Dixie, possibly as an Echo] Misc. Remaining Predictions - Third Party, Fan Service, Echos, etc... 8) Echo Newcomer - either Dixie Kong (Diddy Echo), Isabelle (Villager Echo), or Octoling (Inkling Echo) 9) ExciteBike (Sakurai usually likes to include one or two 'WTF' Retro characters. Not many other NES titles would make sense at this point...) 10) Simon Belmont [Third Party] (Leaked) -------------- Echo fighters: I predict there will only four 'Echo Fighters' (both Veterans/Newcomers) in total to pad out the CSS screen to compensate for PK Trainer/Mii Fighters being in only two CSS slots instead of six. In other words, this evens things out - 71 CSS Slots (counting Echos), and 71 "numbered" movesets (not counting Echos). DLC: I also predict No DLC - the base game would no longer be the 'Ultimate' version if there is paid DLC that fragments the community, as I explained in a previous post. Plus, balancing a large roster (even with lots of clones) will eventually get too cumbersome. 75 seems like a good stopping point. Wild card prediction: If Dixie Kong is added as an Echo Fighter for #7) - DK Rep, replace #8) with Banjo Kazooie The Simon Belmont leaker also claims Minecraft representation is being added via a possible stage or assist trophy. If Nintendo added extra Konami content (Bomberman/Simon Belmont) to sweeten the deal for Snake to get back in, maybe Nintendo and MS are also playing ball with Banjo being added as a Fighter alongside Minecraft content in Smash.
Just thinking about that now: There were 58 characters in Smash 4, and with extra poses and other characters, there were 743 trophies. It would be extremely difficult to make trophies for the amount of characters there are now, especially with models from new game universes coming in.
Maybe Sakurai snuck in Tharja as a spirit.
I will miss playing with trophies. Guess I'll have to learn to use modelling programs and get myself some rips to do that...
They could honestly port trophies from 4 and I'd be none the wiser
Alright, with all these spirit stuff, Square-Enox better not cheap out and I better see spirits of Tifa, Barret, Sephiroth and other FF characters.
People reported not seeing any at all the entire direct. I hope that's just coincidence.
I'm not getting my hopes up on any DLC newcomers being rejected base roster characters and I think that assist trophies being placeholder characters is very wishful thinking, but I hope that the DLC picks are exciting.
