I've got high hopes for Rayman particularly right now.
No spirit
No assist
No mii costume
Rabbid Peach is a spirit, meaning Ubisoft is in on this
Rayman and his pals were trophies in Smash 4
It's looking real good for him.
God please let it be so, Rayman was my favorite series growing up. It would be so great to finally play as him in Smash.
i think my biggest disappointment with Ultimate is the fact that Trophies got removed. i absolutely understand why - considering the mountain of other stuff they've packed into this game, even half the amount of trophies that Smash Wii U had would've probably been more work than they'd've liked. it's still a shame to me, i loved collecting all of the different trophies from all over Nintendo history and reading about them, it was one of the main draws towards the game for me.
the Spirits are nice, but it just feels like an enhanced version of Brawl's Stickers with a hint of a Gacha system thrown in. there's still the collection aspect which is good, but it won't fill the space that Trophies once did, at least for me.
Geno not being in hurts, but i think he can still be DLC. i can wait for that. i've waited a long time for Geno already, i can wait a bit longer.
another thing i'm concerned about is the Singleplayer content - i admittedly don't really have any IRL friends that'd be interested in playing this with me, so my only real reasons to get a Smash game are the online and the singleplayer content, and there doesn't seem to be that much of it this time around.
there's the Adventure mode which looks fun, but it kinda seems like its just mainly battles with a twist or two, with some occasional boss fights.
i'm glad Classic mode is returning, though i don't really see much point in it anymore without the Fighter Trophies you get from it in the other games. sure, you can (probably) get Spirits from it or something, but it's just not the same as beating Classic mode, seeing that Fighter Trophy fall down, and slowly building that collection of them as you play more of it. it'll still be fun, but, man.
there was no mention at all of a Stadium mode, or Break the Targets, a Stage Builder.. i feel like these 3 are more minor things, but they were kinda major staples of the Singleplayer content at one point, the Stadium mode especially. it hasn't been missing from any game since it was introduced in Melee.
i'm absolutely still excited for Ultimate, and i'll probably get it day 1, i just hope there's a bit more for me as a single player
You know maybe this almighty being isn't so bad. Sure he killed some beloved characters but he also killed Rabbid peach. I feel that's a good trade off.
it's kinda weird that there was that small theory of "everyone dying in the trailer and spirits mode being the place where you save them all" funny how that turned out.
"small" ? pretty sure that was the only real theory.
I'm disappointed about the trophies, but yea thinking about it that would be a hell of a lot of trophies.
They could give each spirit a description like trophies had as a good compromise.
Alright I was watching the treehouse footage and one thing stood out to me, they never showed the stage select screen, always explicitly cutting after the match ends then coming back RIGHT after it at the character select screen.
We also never saw it in the direct too...
Of course I'm probably jumping to conclusions but it seems like they're hiding something (and not the DLC). Stage builder?
I feel like they could have just ported all the trophies over from the Wii U and no one would bat an eye.
they could've done what they did in melee and have some trophies just be ported models from other games instead of making them all from scratch (did melee do that? i was always under that impression)
As much as I want to believe that, I feel like they could've cut out some of the options filler and discussed the stage builder today.
Then again, they could've cut out the options filler anyway so I don't know what's going on.
Melee had original models for most of its trophies. It's Brawl and Smash 4 that had the model ports.
That's still an INSANE amount of memory for what is just something to look at when you're bored.
Kinda makes Amiibos less cool in my opinion.
Oh well
i don't know, i get that thropies might be a fun collectible for some people but i've never cared for them. like music has always been the only thing that i genuinely liked to collect
And also they gave purpose to classic and all star mode. Now there doesn't seem like a reason to do it because you don't unlock anything or your progression for your efforts.
The wording on the DLC character makes it sound like there will be more echo fighters added down the line, potentially for free. They only mention the 5 DLC fighters and say excluding echos.
I think the biggest disappointment is that there are only 4 new stages.
Yeah yeah, we have 103 stages and that's cool, but I like buying new games for new content, not just relive the old. Poor ROB still doesn't get a stage.
The way he said "And I'm not talking about Echo Fighters" made me think we're not getting anymore of those but I guess we'll see.
i'll be very interested to see if we get any dlc fighters that aren't in the sets contained in the fighter pass, since the wording to me made it sound as if he was only talking about the battle pass content as the "major" dlc, and makes me think we could get stages, echos, maybe even more minor newcomers like piranha plant.
Pretty sure that's the implication. Feels like they didn't watch the Direct because it's pretty explicit
Can't believe- actually I fully believe that I called trophies not returning. But I do think it's funny now that "Everyone is here" we just see people realize they miss other things. No stage creator or trophies or Smash Run or platform levels.
