I feel like i'm in the minority here, but i seriously prefer dreadlock duke gannondorf and that not being a wario style ult really disappointed me

Like the dude looks like a king, as if he's dangerous both through political/non forceful means or just beating the shit out of you, which the wildman gypsy rambler wizard with a sword OOT design just doesn't do.
Can't have it all i guess
If anyone wants a Smash Ultimate related background/avatar combo in the style of mine, quote me in the avatar request thread and I can hit you up.
There was a part in the Direct that showed off the Replay feature with the camera moving around while the game was unpaused.
Honestly, this is very good news for those who want to make Machinimas with this game.
I don't know how to feel about this
On one hand it'll make grabbing opponents much easier, but on the other it'll sometimes break the flow.
i like it a lot since, now, super fast characters won't automitcally have the upper advantage against anyone slower than them. overall, this change makes stage control a much more valuable tool to take advantage of than past entries
It's going to be fucking funny seeing two Captain Falcon's trying to run through each other
I can't troll people by running around like a spaz as Sonic anymore
But now you can run into them and make them mad that way!
I would presume it would but I don't know as I haven't seen tons of footage/kept up with it.
You joke but that would have been pretty epic hype.
So here's an interesting theoretical: if this hadn't been Smash Ultimate, and fighters had indeed gotten cut from Smash 4 to the next game, who do you all think it would have been? My money would personally have been on Robin and/or Cloud.
I would bet on any combination of:
Corrin
Cloud (almost definite cut imo)
Ryu
Dark Pit
Roy and/or Lucina (most likely Roy)
+ All (non DLC) cuts from Brawl to 4 would stay cut
Pretty much this. I'm quite confident that Ryu would have stuck around for Ultimate if this was the case.
I'm honestly not sure if that's a better or worse scenario than Ultimate. Sure, they might have had more development time for additional fan requested newcomers, but losing Ryu and Cloud along with Ivysaur, Squritle, Ice Climbers, and Wolf would have been a big blow. Plus we wouldn't be getting half as many stages as we are. But at the same time, perhaps there would be more singleplayer content. Ugh.
Regardless of whether or not Ultimate had happened, I'm sure diminishing returns would kick in at some point with the development of new content (or having Break the Targets/Trophies/etc return). I mainly play Smash for the multiplayer, and I think the regular Smashing mode/legacy content is what will be most appreciated so I'm glad to see that be the main focus.
Although, I am surprised by a few seemingly simple omissions such as Smash Run and Home-run Contest. There's no way that 74 (80 with DLC) characters are all getting their own Break the Targets maps though.
I just wanted trophies. I'm not sure if the spirits are a good replacement, but I'm keeping an open mind ever since it was revealed that they might have the lore text. (Still, they aren't 3-D models, so that's a really big downgrade regardless.)
I felt a bit saddened by no Trophies too, but the concept of Spirits is growing on me to be honest.
You see, I think Ryu would be a good character for a non-Ultimate game too, but at the same time - I think the licensing costs would be a bit too expensive if they went crazy with third parties in the base roster. Even if they have a pre-established relationship with Capcom/using Mega-Man, they'd probably still have to pay more to use Ryu/Street Fighter content in the base game as opposed to only using Mega Man, which would make costs add up fast. The only reason I think they spared no expense for Ultimate was because of the motif of Ultimate, which will no doubt pay off with how hyped people are for the game.
Shared this pic with like nine people so far, and a grand total of eight of them have flipped their shit asking how I got the game early
The digital pre-purchase preloads it on your system, but it just looks like it's DLing the game straight up

You know what might get me fully onboard? Since they're just stock images this time instead of 3-D models, maybe they can have even more of them than before. There were 716 trophies in the the base Wii U game. Give us at least a thousand spirits and I might be good.
Well, keep in mind that Spirits are essentially special Event matches. On the one hand, I'm not sure if expecting 715+ spirits is safe, but on the other hand, they aren't just stock images - they are event matches that actually have legitimately creative gameplay modifiers that aren't half-hearted. It seems that they are paying really good attention to detail with using characters, palette swaps, etc to recreate a tribute to a Spirit character.
If the event matches looked lazy or half-baked, I would agree, but I'm looking up various videos/screens/etc and the execution of the idea seems genuinely impressive and fascinating, enough to where I'm coming around to like the idea.
Honestly I'm excited by the prospect of combining lesser spirits to create rarer ones. That combination of a cardboard box and Cut Man to produce Paper Mario is genius, and I really want to see what other ideas they come up with. It could prove to be grindy, but it's just one more excuse for me to play and enjoy Smash. Plus it'd be great to have a complete collection of the spirits, since their artwork is quite nice.
