Imagine if the DLC characters were more "what" type characters like the Piranha Plant
The thing is, now Bandana Waddle Dee cannot be dimissed as "it is just a Goomba in a hat", because we already have a plant in a pot.
It makes me sad because I really enjoy the idea of Piranha Plant and he looks really creative, but all this immediate hate because of the leak ruined any fun an excitement he could of had initially

Have they said anything about the fighter pass and if it's limited? Can you buy it whenever you want?
I hope that's the case because I'm not immediately getting it on release day and I'll wait a few months most likely, I'm NOT paying 100€+ on a single day when Smash comes out
Honestly, compared to certain fighting games with expensive season pass DLCs, i'm okay with the price for these characters.
Plant looks pretty damn fun, not gonna lie. Not too huge on Incineroar but I won't complain getting another heavy character.
Still holding out for Rayman as a DLC character, since they didn't even make him an Assist Trophy.
I will say, certain fan favorites and even past considerations for real characters being just stickers now, is kind of messed up.

Well, you can go ahead and laugh at me but I'll explain my investment in getting the character I wanted in, Isaac. Any character that gets into Smash gets a massive relevancy bump. If it's a lesser known or dead franchise, that series has a shot at hitting the big time, just look at Xenoblade. It's silly to say that a franchise will be revived just because they got into Smash, but it's still a thing. Even if nothing actually came of it, at least more people would check it out. So it's a relevancy thing for me on top of that. You can say that's a stupid way to look at it but it was a franchise I cared about a lot and wanted to see something nice happen to it for once. I'd like that to happen to any of Nintendo's neglected or lesser known franchises.
So we have this gigantic list of assist trophies that are all popular characters in their own right. Side characters, main characters, obscure franchises, big ones. Some even have pretty developed movesets. Guys like Alucard look like they're one board meeting away from being fleshed out into a full character. But, these were passed over because Sakurai wanted them in but didn't think they really deserved a full slot on the roster. Too much work, they got cut but they are not forgotten, can't be helped because you don't have infinite development time.
Then we get the plant. Sakurai could have chosen from hundreds of characters, anything that Nintendo's light touches. And he picks a Phirana Plant that he's going to keep developing past the game's launch. Because he thought it'd be funny. An honest to god free development slot that could have gone to anybody, and it went to that one.
So, I'm not even mad anymore. Just disappointed, at the way the content turned out, how the final roster picks were a disappointment, and at the fact that I'm not going to be able to lose the bitterness until long after the game launches. You can laugh at how my expectations and hopes blew up in my face and rub it in all you want, but it was just a big disappointment. Them being an assist trophy adds insult to injury because it deconfirms them from DLC status but on the bright side at least there's an updated 3D model for them now. That's better than nothing, probably.
That's my big melodramatic complaint, but I just wanted to get it out of the way. Not mad, just disappointed.
People wouldn't be so pissed if they didn't blow their load early. Ridley and K. Rool should've been the last two reveals.

I used to love spending time going through the gallery and learning about new characters and games. To have that all reduced to a bunch of stickers is kinda sad
With how they're doing spirits I'm wondering what they're considering for DLC.
Yeah, like cutting a toe isn't as bad a cutting off a foot. It's still overpriced and I feel that making the DLCs free would make up for the lack of newcomers.

People wouldn't be so pissed if they didn't buy into the leak hype every time.
Don't be facetious, it isn't. The outrage is silly, but Street Fighter V, Soul Caliber 6, Injustice 2, and Tekken 7 all have an almost equal amount of characters, if not more. Hell, even Dragonball FighterZ has about half the roster, and that's a completely new fighting game, not the fourth or fifth in a series.
