I never noticed the absolutely pronounced concavity on the sides of the bald scientist's head. Looks really awkward now that it's in high res hah. Lovely high-res textures, by the way! What resolution are they at?
Alright, I'm sorry if this is an incredibly basic question, but I've exhausted my limited source knowledge. How can I get these skins into my garry's mod? I was trying to drag and drop the files into their own materials/models/weapons subfolders, I tried having them sit in a "Custom" subfolder in the main directory, and other things I've done when it came to skins in source before, but it's not showing up.
they'd need to be recompiled to use c models that gmod uses for the whole playermodel arm thing

Any chance you can fix that seam visible at the right side of the head caused by the UV map? always bothered me that no one fixed that, no matter how HD their textures or meshes were.

I had a lot of fun realizing it. This is my way of honoring the Half-life franchise, and to remind myself of what never came. Additionally, I used GCFScape and Audacity software to cut over 20 different notification sounds from HL2/Overwatch sound files for my own use. I'm using an app called "Random Notification Sounds" which plays a random sound each time you receive a notification. You can technically just rename the v_ to c_, but then the hands may not quite work right. And even if your custom viewmodel hands somehow do show up because the bone names matched, in the Juniez case the fingers are a little off and they're overlapping the pre-existing HEV arms unless you put a blank texture on those. I've done a lot of this shonky renaming work just to have NPCs carrying certain weapons so I can use TFA weapon equivalents when I pick them up without turning an AR2 into an M16, and while these things work on a very basic level, recompiling is the only way to get full compatibility. And even then, if the weapon origins are different, things like ironsights with certain souped up SWEP versions of the guns simply won't line up, and no weapon base allows for quick adjustments with that sort of thing.
yeah, i'm not buying this one. the forced aperture science tie-in and the wallowing in old beta content i.e. cremators just makes it read like bad fan fiction.
it brings up a couple of interesting ideas, and i think that concept art is cool as hell, but to me the whole thing feels like it's trying to be too cool and fanservice-y without really being that coherent. like if Valve ever made and released Half-Life 3, i can't see them just abandoning the entire storyline that was set up in HL2 & its episodes. they wouldn't just have the cliffhanger at the end of ep2, and then 11 years after that game, throw the cliffhanger away entirely and jump forward in the story another 20 years. with Half-Life 1, its ending was left kinda open so they could do whatever with Half-Life 2, but with this that wouldn't really be possible at all thanks to that cliffhanger, that's just not something you can ignore like that.
So if I don't mind the quick and dirty name of renaming, where do I put the files? For example, take Juinez's ar2 file, ar2_new.vpk Do I rename this c_ar2_new.vpk, and throw it in materials/models/weapons? Or put the .vpk file unchanged into a folder c_ar2 ?

You have to extract the files from the .vpk and re name the ones in the models folder from "v" to "c"

The art seems amateur-ish compared to Valve's standards. That alone puts me off. The story sounds like the worst fanfic I've ever heard. Sounds like it's made by someone who hasn't actually invested any good amount of time in the HL universe's storyline. I wish Tyler wouldn't jump on every single "leak" he comes across but I guess he wants to earn that $ on his videos, so of course he's going to report on it. At least, if he reported on it on the side of a skeptic rather than a cautious optimist (like the majority of his videos are) he would be more respectable. As it is now, it just feels like he's grasping at straws. I don't care about speculation or "leaks". I care about what's actually going to be a playable game. If there is no "game", I don't need to hear about it.
Alright, so I extracted everything from their respective .vpks: put the models in the garrysmod/models folder, materials in the garrysmod/materials folder, and within the /models/weapons/ folder renamed any file that had v_ to c_ I know I'm missing something obvious or doing something blatantly wrong, but nothings changing. Again, I appreciate the help in what must be baby's first weapon skinning questions.
You can just put them in the addons folder like you would the custom folder of Half-Life 2. I think it doesn't agree too well with just putting these models into the normal folders. Also, you only rename the viewmodels to c_, not the textures.
Thanks, I finally got it to work with this. I can see what you were saying about the hands earlier, but at this point I'm just happy they're finally loaded and working in game.

Yeah man right on the money, I have done all of Half-Life's world textures and the scientist NPC so far. Ive got a lot of work ahead of me though to correct the textures (transparency for example). I am in the process of making a sort of "enhanced" Half-Life Source called Half-Life HD. Sort of a more pure experience than what we got with HLS with a bunch of fixes and corrections as well as HD textures. I would love to go through the maps and do a lighting pass as well but I may need some external help for that but for now its the models and textures.
This is exactly what I hoped someone would eventually do. Great work dude. I'm sure there are people that would love to help you in that regard.

The more I look at that artwork, the more the hair bothers me. Makes me think of a teen who hasn't cut their hair for a year. Or Leafyishere.
