This is for Source, right? or will there also be a GoldSrc version? Either way these are quite literally the best retextures I've ever seen.
The lighting makes me think goldsrc but I'm not sure.
Thanks for the kind words, its for source. I want to create a "better" Half-Life source. Speaking of which I should use community opinion, what sort of things are wrong with HLS that you guys would like to see fixed? I am already aware of a fair few things but I am interested in what else there is. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237880/b858259a-1fbe-45f0-a0ad-18e2cfb963d1/20181228124432_1.jpg
No GoldSRC version makes me weep.
Well there are some things that won't be fixed in HLS unless we get real deep into those .vmf files floating around online (if you know where to look). Check this out: https://youtu.be/NNv17T02WlY Complete broken in Half-Life Source. But with the .vmf's, we can restore this and many other things. Something tells me you're gonna want to make a Source Mod out of this instead of a drop-in mod over HLS. Provided we can get HLS to mount it would be much cleaner.

Thanks man, yeah I intend this to be a standalone mod that mounts HLS, also I have had those VMF's for quite some time so they are getting put to good use. As for that texture feature it could be added back in, or appropriate for the particular scene textures could simply be chosen in the recompiled maps. It depends on what works best. Also ill give that explosion effect a go see what I come up with!. Thanks for the tips keep em coming, if you think of anything I want to hear it.
I think someone was working on a mod that fixes most of HL sources bugs, so you could ask them if you can use their binary. Honestly, what I think would also be nice is, since the textures on the characters are so high-res now, that some of the edges on them would get subdivided and smoothened out as well. Like the top of the scientist head. I would make a mock-up if ai had time. It shouldnt change too much about the feel of the models, but it would make them look up to pair with the textures.
TBH a "SD" version of the models with these sharp new textures would be ideal, although the Gearbox HD Models could be a base for them as well if you don't wanna suffer by modifying the meshes. But note, only the HD models that has HL and OF, not BS as they are "updated": http://combineoverwiki.net/images/e/e7/Hgrunt_hl_hd01.png http://combineoverwiki.net/images/6/68/Hgrunt_hl_hd_update01.png ( Left: original HL / OF HD model, Right: Updated HD model for BS ). Don't be confused as well with the PSX models as they are even more HD ( which their own features are having eyeballs and fingers among others ): http://combineoverwiki.net/images/8/8e/Hl_scientist01_hd.png http://combineoverwiki.net/images/9/9f/Hlpsx_scientist01.png http://combineoverwiki.net/wiki/File:Hgrunt_hl_hd_update01.png ( Left: Default HL HD model, Right: PSX Model ).
Man Half-Life runs pretty awful on PS2. Especially decay.
You know I'm playing MMod right now and playing on hard like i normally do kind of ruins the gunplay. Everything takes so many shots and the flinching anims are so quick it makes it look like enemies are feeling a tiny tickle. I usually play HL2 on hard but I realize that's half my problems with the gunplay. Just tweaking sk_dmg_inflict_scale3 to match normal so you take more damage and do more honestly feels so much more enjoyable and I reallly hate that valve just bumps ttk for difficulty.
Yeah, that's what I do. A more realistic damage amount between enemies and player feels like a neat way to play than dealing with bullet sponges. It's why Valve breaking HL1's balance after its updates has always frustrated me.
Wait, valve touched difficulty in the updates? What did they change? Also are we talking steam updates are classic WON updates way back
https://forums.svencoop.com/showthread.php/46303-Forums-shutting-down-March-2019 The Sven Co-op forums are shutting down, so if there's anything on there that you need you might want to back it up somewhere else.
Yet another classic forum falling by the wayside. Good to know they'll be putting up an archive in the future.
Gordon! What are you doing with your hand?!
They've still got the Steam community forums, it should be possible to create subforums to group common discussions together: How to make a sub forum for your group? Failing that they've got the subreddit, or combining the Steam Workshop with Discord channels to handle the releasing of new content.
Pretty sure it was the steam updates, the damage and HP became kind of wonk as the Marines went from moderately tough to absurd bullet sponges. Perhaps i'm thinking of HL:S, i'm sure someone remembers the full details properly.
I've always played HL2 on Hard, it's gonna be a heck of a time when I get around to playing Mmod with enhanced accuracy active. But it'll feel like I'm fighting real soldiers at least!
Old-school Valve communities shutting down left and right

did MMod mess with the weapon accuracy just to force you to use ironsights, or is that just me? stuff feels more inaccurate than usual, and i'm just not really a fan of using ironsights all that much
Try MMod vs HL2, get comparison shots to see. HL2's SMG has always been fairly inaccurate, and the AR2 becomes inaccurate after about 10-15 shots of continuous fire.
I miss how the HECU had an injured animation. I wish they did that in HL2.
How many fixing tasks Sniper delayed because of site/forum update? Discord is only active place right now. Other places are not actively monitored.
The Metropolice actually do try to fall back if they take damage, but only if they get the opportunity to. There's subtle nuances to the AI for Combine overall that most people will never notice just because they're too easy to kill and don't get much in the way of level design that accentuates tactics.
You'll have to ask him about that.
Does anybody know how to make NPCs fire mounted guns at their enemies without stopping (like on the coast before nova prospekt)
Yeah that's the biggest thing I've noticed replaying HL2. The level design/noding really doesn't facilitate the AI system in place. Even playing a few custom maps for EP2 with MMod you notice combine enemies moving around much more than vanilla. Also somebody should really port juniez's releases in this thread of the AR2 USP and SMG1 to the anims in MMod
Ugh I just spent an hour downloading SDK Base instead of SDK by accident, then SDK, then investigating a file my anti-virus flagged, then errors only to find out that the SDK doesn't even work anymore and you're just supposed to use the tools now placed in the bin... which didn't work until I found the magic spot to place a copy of the gameinfo.txt Fucking nutty.
