Power to 'em for what they've made, it looks fantastic, but I really don't like that OICW reimagining. Not one lick.
That OICW looks like something out of Unreal 2, what the heck
I think it looks great.
the oicw redesign looks p good actually, doesnt look as close to the real gun which fits in with the final ar2 being entirely weird and fictional. i like it.
It's a shame that with Ravenholm itself looking so good, they absolutely botched the sense of location by not including even the most barebones 3D skybox. When you get to the roof where Grigori hands you the shotgun and look to your left you can literally see the void of the 2D skybox beyond the flat treeline texture.
I just miss multiplayer HL2 mods in general. Synergy, Modular Combat, Zombie Panic, Dystopia, the whole shebang. For a while, we lived like kings.
I feel like a big part of this comes from the fact they barely reiterated on the Ravenholm maps post-Leak. At most it was structure and entity changes, a lot of the geometry was barely adjusted. The back alley behind the second shed you go through still fucks me up because I'm expecting that really jump scarey G-man appearance that happened in the E3 trailers, because I got so used to seeing it in Leak runthroughs and MI.
I always got that scene confused with this.

Sums up all the hidden G-man cameos tbh
I made a webpage with resources and tutorials related to Source: http://brushtool.7m.pl/sourceresources/
I was wondering what you guys would think about it. Is there anything I should add/change?
Ravenholm maintains some of the one of the oldest pieces of maps still in the game, with brush work that used to be part of the old trap town. One of the blocked roads where you first meet Grigori actually heads down to one variant of the E3 docks iirc, and that location is near (but not very accurate to) the river from Black Mesa East, so perhaps you were meant to come to shore there instead of BME at one time. Accuracy wise, the elevator from BME to Ravenholm is actually just under the river, instead of up on the hill where you'd expect, but we're not Human GPS so we don't realize that unless we look at combined map. Anyway as a result Ravenholm lacks consistency in several ways, from the narrow 2D skyboxes to the fact that the rooftop spire visible in most maps changes 3-4 times. There's also a railroad that goes to nowhere because the next map after you pass it doubles back, so even without GPS you may notice that the railroad is nowhere to be seen on the next map (the one where you take a loop). Lastly the mines have some of the least polished brushwork in the series, by far the worst example is the minecart in the form of a floating trapezoid.
And speaking of disorientation, all the interior maps of Nova Prospekt has the same problem, most of the maps have no skybox outside the windows, not even a ground, it's just a void out there. The one map that does have a skybox has the entire thing misplaced, which results in the map having 2 Depots; the one in the map toward and the one in the skybox. This is also because the prison is one of the oldest maps and saw countless revisions.
That gameplay footage's open-ended nature reminds me surprisingly of STALKER.
Especially with the soundscapes they used and the player running away from a pack of houndeyes, it's a lot like blind dogs in that game.
Well, putting aside the extraordinary basic design of the page, you could add The Mappers Encyclopedia done long ago here ( although seems it that parts of it doesn't work right ): The Mappers' Encyclopedia
We have a "mirror" of it ( which I believe it is actually an old revision of it and then added stuff on our own ) at our map database: The Mappers' Encyclopedia
Also you could link to Interlopers and The Snarkpit as well. If you use Internet Wayback Machine link Halfwit-2, it used to have a lot of simple but useful tutorials.
You could link as well to some Discord servers of mods too.
In the future, I recommend using prefabs/instances and work on bits and pieces of the map, as things get harder to manage as you add to the map.
Man, GoldSource and Source mods were great back when the community was still very active. TFC custom maps (Axl's TFC, anyone?), The Ship, Sven-Coop (Ent Mod, anyone?), Brain Bread, Master Sword: Continued, Action Half-Life, aaaaaaaaaagh I could go on but you get my point. So many things to play. I miss being young... heh.
Yea, missing those days was pretty much the exact reason i started my own mod to pay homage to all those mods almost a decade ago now lol. Shout-outs to the even lesser known GoldSource gems like Scientist Hunt, Rocket Crowbar, or even PS07/'Surprise!'. And yea TFC was great fun for me with those Sniper only maps, or the more elaborate Hunted maps that involved vehicles.
there was just something magical about giving yourself all guns in PS07 and then skimming all the weapon categories for the first time lol

was less about playing till you were bored, and more about playing until you crashed lol. things were nuts back then
rocket crowbar was so much fun, especially with the npcs/vehicles you could take over on those bigass dragon ball maps
Maybe add some links to the source for some open source mods like https://github.com/Sandern/lambdawars and GitHub
I did get everything fixed and squared away then btw, Including the lighting issue. Turns out it wasn't the brush, it was a model I was using, a very large model that wasn't meant to be used the way I was using it.
in middle school i imagined that the new girl in my gym class would play sven coop with me and it was nice.
10 years later and still no svencoop gf D;
Girlfriend:
Emotionally rewarding
Asks you to buy things for her
Can guide each other through life
Reluctant about a three-way
Supports you in times of need
Wants you to open up and be vulnerable
Barney Calhoun:
Strategically rewarding
Will buy you a beer
Can guide him through goldsrc map geometry
Completely willing to let other partners come along
Supports you with suppressing fire
Would never expect you to expose your tactical vulnerabilities
tough call
What about Otis
As the walking embodiment of the BBM tag, he slides into your girlfriend and every female you ever cared about.
Good thing they cut the female scientists then...
Why is this worded as if the thought of a random girl from middle school playing vidya with you is better than your current girlfriend? It's kinda hilarious
It was probably posted by his younger brother who hacked his account to make it look like a loser, he got fucking owned by his younger bro, damn.
Indeed. Back then, I was too young to buy any games and was just poor in general. My friend had the complete HL package that he got from a friend and we shared his Steam account since Steam first came out. The amount of mods you could play and the amount of *free* content was astounding. I played not only because it was free (and because I had too much free time and no money), but because there were so many new and interesting things to play. From 2002-2009 were great times for me. The amount of energy and output from the community was amazing. Those were the transitioning days from "polished AAA games that took several years to create and come out" to "Indie games for 3 bucks a pop" and then eventually to "Free to play, 3/4s the game is DLC, release early release often, Early Access garbage" and the saddest part is that Valve enabled most of it. Even loot boxes (which AFAIK originated from TF2)!
honestly svencoop being left/stuck at 3.0 for years back in the days was the best thing that could happen to it. My childhood right there.
Nothing's ever really captured that feeling of Half-Life Co-op after 4.0's release.
I made a new video of my attempt to upscale Half-Life textures with an AI.
This time I also did the models and Xen textures.
Some textures seems to be broken (fluids and chrome on the models).
And the transparent textures are still some blue left on the edge.
But everything was done with an automatic process.

I've packaged a mod so anybody can test it :
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dbJro5lFoq94YgIZVoRe2Td7UftDZQpM
Just extract the folder inside steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life and restart Steam.
A new entry named "Half-Life Ai HD" should be there.
Have fun !
