Does the sourceruns build fix the vehicle physics of the buggy?
well yes. Like it was at launch. Easily overturneable jeep (many people didn't like it but honestly it's hilarious) and the turbo is one-tap and extremely powerful
Any tips to squeeze extra performance out of software mode HL?
Good, the way it should be.
Porting HL2 to the Orange Box engine was one of the worst things Valve ever did tbh. They just left it a buggy mess.
They literally fixed one problem because it was a major problem. And it was a problem caused by their lazy port job.
Wish I could get old, vanilla HL2 except with the Orange Box fire effects to be honest.
And I suppose the Half-Life 2: Update thing is just half the attempt at fixing things up, I guess...?
the lighting is closer to CSGO a than anything but it’s still a great improvement. It’s even got a fan made commentary for the whole campaign, which was partially written by Marphy. It just bothers me that it’s using a different AppID than the real HL2. I would’ve loved if Valve just accepted it as an update and applied it to the real game, however realistic that would be.
What did pre-Orange-Box fire in Half Life 2 look like, out of curiosity?

Not sure if anyone has noticed but in the original Half-Life the scientist has the needle in his left hand but in the HD pack it's in his right hand.
This is George Lucas levels of retconning and i won't stand for it.
Here's a better screenshot on high settings https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/922/ef3e3775-fd49-4159-a4ad-ec9b281ddcfe/image.png Exe build: 12:18:31 Nov  2 2004 (2187)
I don't know why, but I just got an overwhelming sense of nostalgia looking at this...something about the quality of the screenshot reminds me of my old mapping days in source.
Is it just me, or does this have graphical feature that modern Half-Life 2 doesn't have?
https://youtu.be/J5GoY_7qaiI Done in OpenGL, as alas I did it last week before the discussion about overbrights. Future videos will mostly be in Direct3D with overbrights enabled, except in areas with houndeyes. (Since houndeye shockwaves are bugged and invisible in Direct3D.)
Wait, really? Then how does the animation work?
By punching you, obviously.
There really needs to be a way to downgrade the half-life games before steampipe or even 2010 update
Ahh, the red AUX power even when full Good times
at least sprint doesn't refuse to work when you activate it in mid-air.
Is it possible to get that old crosshair with thin two arcs (no ammo, health counters)?
There should be a checkbox in the options menu somewhere for that, or was it removed?
Unless I'm missing something obvious, it's gone

Never seen a lets play being this informative before, pretty good.
Why was SteamPipe even needed? What was wrong with the GCF system? It worked fine, and everything post-Orange Box already used VPK.
They probably wanted to phase out the GCF backend in Steam. IIRC it had issues with large GCF files and fragmentation inside the GCF itself. SteamPipe also allows them to do delta downloads which puts less pressure on their CDNs. I do wonder how other pre-SteamPipe games that weren't updated are distributed though.
