That was called beta as well, but it didn't stop people from complaining
Pretty bummed that Online is still like 2 weeks away, the game ate up so much of my free time I'm pretty much bored of everything else now I need more R*!
Tail end of Chapter 2 and start to middle or so of Chapter 3, so basically where you're at now, put the story on hold and do the side stuff.
Chapter 6 spoilers: Fuck, I'm gonna miss Arthur. I'm so torn between doing most of my free roaming as either Arthur or John. I only just started the epilogue, but I hope it helps me decide.
I was kinda put off by how skinny and lanky John was at first. Compared to the other characters, he just looks cartoonish. After I was able to dress him the way I wanted to though, I kinda got used to it.
Not sure how accurate all of this is, but it got me even more hyped. Straight from the RDR2 reddit: <blockquote class="reddit-card" data-card-created="1541687930"><a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/9v8zhf/red_dead_online_what_we_know_so_far/">Red Dead Online, what we know so far</a> from <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption">r/reddeadredemption</a></blockquote> <script async src="//embed.redditmedia.com/widgets/platform.js" charset="UTF-8"></script>
just saw my gf finish chapter 6. "I always was a good thief" made me choke up, fuck.
Wait wait wait, hold up, you can interact with other players, does that mean our Character won't be a mute? I fucking hope that's the case oh my god, I want my character to have an actual voice.
Been thinking the same thing, would be pretty sick if our characters have some sort of voice. Wouldn't even care if it's just like a handful of one-word lines. Having a world that is similarly interactive and alive as the SP one would be mind-blowing.
I'm excited that you'll be able to hunt in online. I was curious to how they would implement that since there are no animals in GTAO. I just hope they don't go off the rails with the scifi bullshit like they did in GTAV with jetpacks and flying cars and hover-bikes of the like. I need this to stick to 1899.
I was wondering if John was that skinny for everyone. My Arthur hit minimum possible weight like 2 minutes before he got diagnosed with tuberculosis, and I figured it was pretty story appropriate so I kept him like that until the end. John is about the same as minimum weight Arthur, so until your post I thought weight might have carried over.
So I started playing the first Red Dead Redemption a couple of days ago and I turned off the minimap after a few missions, since it was displaying too much critical information and I was getting too reliant on it. Been having a blast navigating the olden historical way. Where bee-lining towards your objective isn't always the fastest route since you can easily lose your bearing that way.
All of that sounds good. I hope there's less off an emphasis on pvp modes, in GTAO it felt like it was like 80% pvp missions and the remaining co-op missions were usually super short. And I REALLY hope they don't do the same bullshit with enemy AI that they did in GTAV where all the enemies are much dumber and take like five times the amount of bullets to kill than in the singleplayer.
Epilogue I wonder if this was like a last minute decision, maybe one of the reasons why it was delayed. Would explain why the leaked maps didn’t have New Austin at all
Regardless, it's still cool as fuck to explore New Austin before the events of the first game, and see how different things were. Especially in Tumbleweed.
This is too damn accurate. Minor game spoilers https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/9v8h6o/couldnt_stop_laughing_at_how_accurate_south_park/
So today I managed to complete the tutorial and enter the game's world proper. I'm going to voice my early doubts here, 'cause I think the quality of the whole presentation and the general finesse which clearly went in the development of several elements of this game need no further elaboration. Speaking of the main subject and the general tone of the story, at this stage I'm still preferring the original Red Dead Redemption. I just found the whole "retired outlaw just wanting to spend his last days with his family being threatened into working with the federals to hunt down his former accomplices" premise to be far more interesting and captivating than the "outlaw gang trying to survive the slow and agonizing dusk of the Far West era as his leader is crushed by everyone's expectactions and his own failure" plot up to this point. Also, one thing I really liked about Red Dead Redemption was the perfect mixture of a grounded storyline with some heavy grim elements (think of GTA IV and GTA IV) and the several humorous, caricature characters and the unbeliveable, at times outlandish situation the main character found himself in as the only sane man (think of GTA Vice City, GTA St. Andreas and Bully). Red Dead Redemption 2, however, seems to be far more grounded than its predecessor, althought characters jabs, funny events and satyrical elements are definitely still there to some extent. Maybe it's too son to judge, however. When it comes to gameplay proper, oooooooh boy. I'm a fan of immersive videogames, mind you. Hell, roleplaying videogames have always been my favorite games genre in existence. However, I tend to draw a line between realism and immersion and, well, fun. It's the main reason that, for instance, althought I love the shit out of Fallout: New Vegas, I'll never attempt to play it on survival mode (reasons being the physiological needs added to gameplay being a severe dent in my freedom, the scarcity of opportunities to save my games and the general random nature of enemy encounters). The issue I have with Red Dead Redemption 2 at the moment is that there's too much going on at any given moment and I'm tasked with keeping a tab of far too many things to do and to look out for, something I find counter-productive in an open world videogame such as this, where , if anything, I should be motivated to explore and experiment left and right and not being bound to chores and fixed motions and manuvers. The result is a game I'm liking very much on many levels, but more often than not is far too slow to be truly enjoyed and requires far too much attention/dedication on my part. Hunting is a perfect example of this, especially since, by the looks of it, the activity is far more important in the grand scheme of things than in the original Red Dead Redemption: you need it to gain food, enrich the gang's camp and craft better gear, not mentioning it's a source of income which doesn't make you expose yourself to the Law. That said, on top of stalking your prey effectively being quite the lenghty process, finding "animal materials" in prestine conditions is a luck-based mission. In theory, killing an animal in a certain way should allow you to "clean kill" it and claim a worthy pelt. In practice, however, animals will spawn with pelts already ruined to some degree, with you not being able to tell untile you actuqlly skin them. Also, in order to derive the best utility from your preys, you must sell them fast, else they'll start decompose and decrease in value, which kinda discourages long hunting sessions. The controls mapping doesn't help matters one bit either. Given the high number of actions Arthur can and must do, many buttons are used contextually and for the most diverse of actions, in a manner which is highly confusing if you don't get your shit together and learn the ropes quickly. For instance, during the tutorial I nearly accidentally shot my gang members because the L2 button is used to perform social interactions with NPCs, but, with a weapon in hand, it's used to aim said weapon. So if you are armed and want to talk to someone, you must remember to put your weapon away and then initiate a conversation. Keep in mind, I'm around only the second chapter and thus I need to see more of the game, so may mileage may as well vary later. Also, there are some features which, while bothersome to keep track of, I genuinely like, mostly because they help me give my personal spin to Arthur and play as someone truly unique to me. The best example would be picking up my hat every single time it falls from my head. 'Cause, no matter how hard shit gets, I'm not going around without my fucking hat.
I'm just glad Rockstar realized that people like fun physics. It was nice to see enemies in some of the story missions placed on the edges of cliffs so you could watch them fall. We need more physics showpieces like this.
Is the white Arabian horse just naturally more jumpy than other horses? Feels like it bucks me off for every little thing. My previous horses never threw me off no matter what
When I had the right Arabian I don't think I ever had her buck me off. Try to make sure you are clicking in the left stick every so often to calm her down maybe? I also noticed that at full bond level with a horse the left stick click in gives you some horse stamina back every so often so it actually has a use after fully bonding with them.
At first I was worried the physics were toned down yet again compared to RDR1/IV yet over time it feels insanely good again. Sure, having the wobbly physics be rare compared to the original can sometimes suck but when it does happen it feels so satisfying.
I do use L3 to calm her, but often she'll just throw me off the moment something goes wrong before I can even react. Just had her throw me off twice in the span of 10 minutes, first from an enemy ambush and then from a cougar. Thankfully with the cougar I was at least able to dead eye and severely wound it right before I got thrown off
Can we just take a second and appreciate good ol' Uncle? Sure, he's a useless lazy drunk most of the time, but lumbago is a really serious condition! RDR 1 & 2 spoilers: I just love how he's the one guy who sticks around even throughout the epilogue of RDR2 and finally RDR1. People in camp always give him shit (probably in a loving way), but in the end he's the one who survives, just to die whilst trying to defend John's family. Really like what Rockstar did to the character. I still wonder what he was about to tell Arthur about his "One Shot Kid" past back in Valentine Just imagine RDR3 being about young Uncle as the biggest badass of the west, riding alongside Landon Ricketts and other famous gunslingers
Uncle is awesome. The only time I ever disliked John was when he was being a total asshole to him for no good reason in RDR1.
Anyone got any good Points of Interest for post game? Give a general location but not a description. My find would be due west of Brandywine Drop, Northwest of the train bridge there which looks like ) - - - ( on the map.
I was disappointed that there were no horseless carriages. It'd be real fun to go bumping around unimproved roads in one of those things and almost no other game could really justify having one.
I love this game lmao https://youtu.be/VrVXGXXX2xU
I'm sure there'll be on in Online.
Someone needs not thing and leaving on railroad tracks. In another note
John bugs when he's being dismissive towards his family, he gets better over time like, it's still annoying though when Abigail is dealing with Jack and John's just acting as though they're not his family at all, even in the epilogue he still finds the time to act like a dick despite Abigail making good points and suggestions, though he did get his shit together when she left so maybe that's what he needed all along, a good kick up the arse and slap around the head by reality.
