UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE Megathread V.7 - Don't Forget (about the game)

For me the big thing with the humor in this game is that I didn't feel any particular joke overstayed its welcome. As much as I love Undertale that was one criticism I had.
*glances at Hotland*
What was that guys name again? Burnie McFlash?
He technically does have n word privileges afterall
get it because he's a nerd haha
a lovable fluffy nerd
I love soundclowns and all but I'm always going to be angry at BotanicSage for ruining my favorite boss theme for my favorite character im the game
When we talk about the story, don't forget, if Undertale is anything to go by: You, the player, are a character in the story.
When you're playing the game, you're not Kris, you're you. Don't forget that the first time you save the game in the dark world, there's a save already there with Kris' name, which you overwrite with your own.
Just like in Undertale, you're not really Frisk, just controlling them. At the very end, Frisk is given a name just as you lose player control. Flowey addresses you personally to leave the world as it is. Kris was their own character before you showed up and took control, everyone already has prior relationships with them, which is why the other characters think Kris is acting strange.
I missed something rather obvious
Father Alvin mentions that the church choir misses Asriel. Ralsei sings to enemies to get them tired. Might further imply that Ralsei is Kris' impression of Asriel, or that Kris coveted Asriel's singing voice.
Also considering that we got vocals for the credits song, if Asriel ever sings in game with vocals in the later chapters I just might die
Exactly. Undertale is a longer game though, and that may be why some jokes drag.
I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if we as the player are the soul that is caged up in the ending. We're dictating Kris' every action against their will for the whole chapter and at the end they finally break free of us. That'd be why they had their own save at the start and it's changed to the player name. Kris lost control because we're butting in.
I could be completely off of course, I'm not generally one to speculate stuff like this.
Honestly this seems less like speculation and more like it's pretty clearly what's happening.
Very subjective but I still laughed at many of the even long-running gags in Undertale and never really felt too much they dragged. It's just something about how certain gags keep getting repeated where they stop being funny for a certain point, and then become funny again after it gets brought up once more and so on.
The fact Hot Coldman's joke appears again in the Deltarune library and apparently he forgot his own name too gave me a good giggle and a sympathetic feeling that even Burns Fireman forgot his own name
See I'm wondering if this isn't the first time this has happened to Kris, hence why they've got the cage handy.
what are you talking about? You telling me you don't like putting fingers in Kanye's ass?
The Fact that Susie literally asks to confirm whether or not what was experienced was 'not a dream or something' makes it seem pretty crystal clear to me that it's not like the experiences in the Dark World were all in Kris's head, or the two of them playing pretend with the toys, or anything like that. I don't know what that room is supposed to mean, but it makes absolutely zero sense to me that it could be something that was ~all in their heads~ when Susie confirms that what they just experienced was real, and then says to go back there tomorrow.
I dunno, I think the entire idea that what we went through was just this big fantasy / make-believe experience to be extremely weak and uninteresting and a story telling mechanic. I'm actively disinterested if that's what Toby wanted it to come across as. Doesn't feel that way at all to me, though.
Though, I don't have any theory or pitch for what that room actually meant at the end of it all. It's just that - Susie confirming twice that she was there for everything and experienced it herself - really really makes it seem like "It was pretend/in their heads/make believe" to be an extremely weak and uninteresting way of going about things.
It did seem like they knew exatly what they were doing when they ripped that soul out and tossed it in that cage.

The room afterwards there is to sow doubt.
Fair enough then, I haven't been keeping up with theories closely so I'm not surprised I'm just covering ground that has already been trampled to death long ago.

So, I've been wondering if anything different happens if you run through the entire game without saving. As someone above noted, the first time you save, it seems to overwrite Kris, with your own name.
I wouldn't put it beyond Toby to add some small little difference that occurs if you never overwrite that and leave it as Kris.
Can't find the post right now but iirc someone did this in the previous thread and they didn't notice a difference sadly.
There's still a possibility it might be very subtle but it seems like it doesn't affect anything upfront or obvious in the general flow of the plot.
Different save slots however have shown a cosmetic change at least, with the contents of Asriel's drawer changing depending on your save slot.
Does anyone have Jevil's voice lines from the fight? I can't find them anywhere
For some reason I never caught up on ralsei's pink part of the sprite being a scarf until after finishing the game and I thought he was standing around with his whole mouth open like a fucking idiot
I couldn't unsee it and now it's your turn

Dunno if this has been shared before, some of the leitmotifs in DR
And some more shared between UT and DR
They're inside data.win at an offset a bit further than 12 MiB, seems the format is signed 16-bit PCM mono.
Unsure if someone has actually decompiled the data from the correct offsets. I could dump all the lines smooshed together.
even unfocusing my pupils I can clearly see what's meant to be seen, since the pink doesn't overlap with the white that you made teeth in ur image
i think you just have a lazy visual processing center man
Someone said they saw the scarf not as a mouth but as a set of lips. Here's my dramatic recreation:

The shading's really good too overall, there's a very noticeable depth on the scarf.
