it seems like GSC have a glut of characters now: the 4 new ones, gunslinger, sniper(?), map guy, magus, patriarch, prod guy in the trailer(?)
like what are you going to need them all for?
"Shhh, be vewy vewy quwiet! I'm huntin' fer STC fwagments!"
I think the wear should be about good for a field gun that's in frequent service in a trench line. I used some of the techniques that Mig Jimenez uses on his tanks, particularly his captured KV2.

His book is a great one to get by the way, it is super helpful.
F.A.Q.: Frequently Asked Questions on AFV Painting Techniques
He's likely to get regular tabletop rules considering even the Rogue Trader kt expansion even got them.
Ho dang, those new genestealer cult hq are hella rad. I haven't played Warhammer in a while (or ever, really), can Genestealer Cults and Tyranids be in the same army?
Yes. Genestealer cults armies can include detachments of either tyranids or Imperial Guard.
Or both
Yup. Although there are some restrictions on the guard detachments, they cannot outnumber the amount of GSC detachments, cannot have regimental doctrines, or named characters. They're mostly there to provide tanks and artillery.
Those GSC characters are fantastic, and the AdMech one feels kind of disappointing in comparison- it's a distinct design from existing AdMech stuff, but the sculpt is just so muddled with extraneous detail that I didn't even notice he has two hands put together, and not just one in a 'shh' pose.
Maybe it'll look better in person, or maybe I can cut off some of the crap to get a concise silhouette back.
I feel like part of the issue is the paint job. I can see the other hand there after seeing the Mars version of the model but the first time the cybernetic arm was just so dark it blended in.
I really rather dislike all these pot bellied techpriest designs, they look too Nurgley for my tastes.
It's not really the design I'd hope for for AdMech but tbh AdMech is forgiving when it comes to kitbashing. I just hope he has half decent rules for regular 40k unless GW suddenly decides to break form and not give him and the Gunslinger rules outside of KT but I don't see why they would at this point. If he's got a re-roll 1s to wound aura or something that'd be fuckin ace.
TBH I think the whole... 'compartmentalization' of aesthetics is bad, and I'm glad to see new sculpts that subvert that. I mean, with so many factions in the game it'd be incredibly limiting if traits like 'being fat' became solely used by Nurgle. It's not like anyone's going to mistake the model for a Nurglite.
Apparently cult ambush got completely reworked. Now instead of just a deepstrike you pre-place markers on the map you get to ambush from with one of the characters letting you move them around.
It would be one thing if it were just one aspect of the design, but I mean the guy's got a pot belly, pointed hood, vials of suspicious liquid, tattered robes, they even painted his skin sickly and decayed. It ticks most of the boxes for Nurgle. It's a shame too since Mechanicus are quite desperate for HQ/character models right now as all we have are Cawl, Dominii, and Enginseers.
Other than the pot belly all of those things are aspect present on the design of the current Dominus. GW even paints them with sickly skin.
I think it's also worth remembering that the Mechanicus didn't exist as a tabletop faction until recently, so they haven't undergone the gradual aesthetic shift of other factions away from the game's gothic roots. The sculpts released a few years ago were basically taken straight from the original John Blanche artwork.
And one of the big themes in Blanche's art is that the Imperial characters are so freaky and menacing that the only way to tell them apart from their Chaos counterparts is to look for obvious iconography. I can't find a bigger image, but this is Blanche's own AdMech explorator team.

That said, I think there's a valid point to be made in each faction having their own distinctive aesthetics. My Renegade preacher does tick a bunch of the same boxes as that new AdMech character- big bloated belly, tall staff, pointy hood. But I think the profusion of mechanical bits, plus the same basic design as the Dominus, ties it into the AdMech range. I just wish those mechanical bits weren't so prominent that they spoiled its silhouette.

BOI
Pretty sure one of those guys is literally a plague ogryn. But I suppose you do have a point, I've just really gotten used to the more human side of the Mechanicus seen in the skitarii range and the Enginseer models. Oh well I guess I can just kitbash if I want less grimdark looking tech priests.

Eyy, DarkMechanic got hired to do a trailer!
GSC rumour stuff - So apparently all of these "leaks" are fake (from the gsc discord, leak from /tg/)
A shame since 7 point acolytes woulda been boss
Dunno. The stratagems were supposedly leaked months ago in a /40kg/ thread and the guy that posted them also is the one that posted the warlord trait page. I guess we'll see within the next month or so.
playing as a genestealer cult sounds crazy cool but do I have to shave my own head for maximum immersion
I'm having trouble with my GSC army regarding basing
Currently it's about half based with space hulk type bases, like a space station got infested, have a bit of a headcanon about it; but seeing all this new stuff makes me wanna rebase em all with a more wasteland/moon type base, a mechanised column sort of like mad max. Not sure whether to rebase or just have different bases across the army (sounds bad to me)
Part of issue is it's sort of in 6 sections -sorta incoherent
Scientist/sinister corporation theme - 30+ neophytes + a magus
Mutant theme - about 30 neophyte guys, 5 acolytes
Pdf theme - so far unassembled about 40 IG guys and a leman russ (planning on making a brood brother detachment, possibly with sentinels and an arvus lander in the future). They have mortars and vehicles so no sense to have them inside a spacestation.
Robed cult theme - 10 acolytes + some abberants
Cultists based off of cawdor and chaos cult - about 15 (gonna make it a "civilian mob" like guerilla/resistance fighters)
Generic gsc mining theme - 20 neophytes, 20 acolytes approx + a magus
Also considering adding in some guys converted to be like arbites, to show the cult has rooted in ever strata and organisation on the planet.
The science, mutant and robed acolytes look good with spacehulk bases but the rest look better with the wasteland bases (I imagine). Plus the wasteland bases make more sense if i include vehicles (like i plan to)
What do?
The only guys who really wouldn't fit the wasteland would be the sinister corporation science dudes. (sorta like twisted helix, science guys they accidentally get infected by the cult then spread it over the planet, the science lab security force act as a private army) If I painted the wasteland and spacehulk in similar colours could it work? anybody else got this sorta issue?
gene cult war rig / bucket excavator super-heavies when
Mind sharing the source on them being fake? I'm curious, as those purported leaks sound very genuine.
Anyways, regarding your basing dilemma, remember that space hulks/stations can be absolutely huge, so you can totally have a heavily vehicular army even with space hulk-type basing. IIRC there's a story involving a Titan battle on a ship, so I wouldn't let the basing scheme get in the way of vehicles.
You could even fluff it in a way that ties these things together. Maybe the sinister scientists are experimenting aboard a heavily trafficked Imperial station, they screw up, and a Cult forms. You've got the scientists themselves, infiltrated station defense (the IG models), infiltrated mining guilds (the GSC models and vehicles), and infected random civilians (the cultists).
Something like that would let you take a real mix of models, use your current industrial/space basing, and still have a solid fluff explanation for all of it without any kind of logical stretch.
"Just to point this out in advance, some fake leaks for GSC were posted on 4chan by somebody mysterious. They used the 7e codex in a photo, pretended it was the new 8e codex, and made a bunch of false claims, piggybacking off the false reliability from the 7e codex. The leaks look like this, and I know them to be 100% fake, and I know this because I know the person who made up these fakes.
I'm posting this here to prevent the spread of false information, so if someone comes onto this channel to post it, they'll know it's fake."
From captainbetts on the gsc discord. It is one word against another though. Also he posted a pic of a staff with gsc codex, implying it's printed/printing now. Ascension is nigh
