Low quality photos because it was late night and I was tired!
I've since done a bit of cleaning up on the model, and I'm pretty damn pleased. I'm considering doing some edge highlighting/drybrushing on the gunmetal surfaces, as well as possibly painting the gold trim on the toe panels, but I'm not sure yet.
That looks great @Notrabies. The only piece of criticism I could suggest would be that the gold looks a little flat; have you considered a sepia wash to bring out the texture?
Yeah, it looks especially flat in these photos and I started considering my options immediately. I'll probably try and apply some to the gold vents on the top of the bolters, and hopefully I can get results without messing anything up.
Orks are fantastically fun to paint, this is my bias but I super love how this skin turned out given how fast it is.

Black Library audiobook bundle, mixture of AoS stuff and 40k stuff.
Humble Audiobook Bundle
If you had painted them red, then you could have painted then faster.
Real talk though, they look great! Super crisp!
@Rockfish I always appreciate expedient paint schemes, mind sharing how you did the skin?
Sure!
It is essentially a simplified version of the 'eavy metal recipe on the warhammer official instagram:
Base coat with a 2:3 mix of Averland:Skarsnik
All over wash with Bieltan thinned with lahmian
The extreme rescesses Coelia greenshade, also thinned
Highlights are ogryn camo then ushabti
Thin skin like elbows are kislev
The lips are kislev, washed thinned druchii, highlight kislev
Anybody got any size comparisons between the dark vengence chaos marines and black stone fortress marines? Those baroque chaos marines are pretty nice
This might not be the best place, but I'm asking anyways. Recently I got some pewter minis from darkswordminis, and basically, GW rattle can primer does not stick well on it. it scratches off very easily and it seems in general paint adheres to it worse, as it doesnt quite absorb or create a unified surface (basically i can still feel its a pewter mini underneath).
What rattle can primers would you recommend for pewter?
I've been super ADD with my painting lately, jumping back and forth between projects and not really getting anything finished. But I did manage to get one of two Carnifexes done today.

that's gorgeous lookin'
Have you washed the minis? Also, pewter models have a reputation for paint chipping, so what you can do is spray a layer of varnish on top of your pirimer to prevent it from chipping off.
Yeah they're washed. I guess varnish is the way to go. I only have brush varnish atm but I guess it should work. question is what to do now, since I had started painting the mini already. To try to finish or strip and go over...hm
I would say that if they're minorly chipped, a touch up could be all you need, but if they're significantly chipped, then strip and start over.
Yea chipping is just a fact of life in metal minis and as said a varnish is the answer. Though I've been told to make sure you wait a day or so for it to fully dry out since you trap any moisture under the varnish and it can be a long term issue.
Anybody try that Mechanicus game? Seems like xcom a bit.
It's pretty fun so far. At the very least it's got character to

it.
The writing is absolutely perfect. All the named characters are different types of tech-priest and each one has a different method of talking, all of which are still immediately recognizable as Mechanicus.

I fucking love how Scaevola basically tells videx that if he doesnt like her he should go onto a different mission all in her weird tech speak
Scaevola is great. At one point she's told not to waste lives of faithful tech-priests and her response is basically "Good point, bring back the bodies so we can study the effect of necron weapons on flesh".
There's also a point where Videx states just how many different works of scripture he is able to quote, it's a six digit number.
I have to say I think so far Scaevola is my favorite which is interesting because they're a tech-priest archetype I usually dislike: the one who seems to be obsessed with personally waking every single necron tomb in the system. Between their pseudocode way of speaking and their dialogue indicating that they're coming from a position of genuine curiosity and, dare I say it, hope, they're quite entertaining to see. Also the Skitarii Subdomina is interesting in her own right just because she's clearly retained a fair bit more humanity than the rest of the crew, she's not purely concerned with collecting data or following creed, but also preserving the lives of the good people entrusted to her.
Reminds me of that *snifffffff* copy pasta people post on oify
Not sure if this is the right thread but I was looking at getting Total Warhammer 2 and had a question, namely, how difficult is it to get into for someone who only has passing experience in the TW games? I played very little of Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai but I really didn't know what I was doing at the time.
It's really easy. The TW: Warhammer games are probably the easiest to learn, since diplomacy and city-building has been streamlined, and the different units stats are easy to read and understand.
Good to know, thanks. If I buy TWW2 am I just missing out on the first games races or should I buy the first one first?
Pretty much. You miss out on the Mortal Empires campaign which is a campaign on the whole current map.
I would say buy the first if you like the majority of the races in the first!
If none of the factions included catch your eye you should probably skip it and you will still get to fight them on the campaign map/multiplayer~ There is alot of [free or otherwise] DLC for the original factions as well so don't think they aren't as flashy or fleshed out.
It's not the pewter; it's the mold release. GW rattle can 'primer' is, unless they've changed it recently, actually just spray paint, so it doesn't have any of the etching properties that help cut through mold release.
Auto primers are your best bet, but you may need to experiment to find one that isn't too thick. Self-etching is good, self-leveling is not.
Alternatively, give them a dunk in brake fluid, acetone, oven cleaner, or whatever other nasty solvents you can find, then scrub with an old toothbrush. After that you should have no problems priming with whatever you normally use.
I'm wanting to kit-bash a werewolf using a Clawed Fiend and some space wolves; just trying to get the scale between the two right. From what I've seen I'd guess that Thunderwolves would be my best bet, but I'm not sure the exact sizes. Any recommendations/advice? +May as well ask any tips for black fur as well, is it pretty much just the same execution as hair with the blue-ish highlights? Hoping to have something similar to this in build + colour.
