Super Smash Bros. General v17: Everyone is DEAD! (except Kirby)

Perhaps Smush needs a completely different stage selection system. I don't think I've ever seen a game have a problem like this.
Wacky Idea : Players Draft a stagelist at the begining of a set and use that for the set. Bans work as normal.
Just legalize Stage Morph problem solved
This just seems insane since all those stages are massively different at both the highest and lowest levels of play.
Damn, they game isn't even out for proper testing and they picked almost the same shit. Hazardless Dracula's Castle looks great.
I hope that in tournaments choosing Battlefield or FD means that you can select Random with the equivalent modifier, since they've been standardized now. I want to see all of the different stages still have some sort of representation in tournaments, but knowing the comp community they'll find SOMETHING to not let that be an option.
But are there suitable replacements for those stages? I guess Warioware could replace Yoshis just fine but is anything even comprable to Dreamland's size?
I believe this is actually the reason that Fountain of Dreams is no longer considered; with hazards off, I think either the platforms become locked in place or disappear entirely.
SF5 banned the kanzuki beach stage back in 2016 from comp because the shallow water would obscure feet and other ground objects.
Yeah I was talking about that in the post before that, which is why I feel like mixed hazards needs to be tried out.
But they also banned R. Mika costumes because they're virgins and cowards who """abide by""" coward tv companies that are scared a 5 year old with see r. mika's ass so fuck 'em
Meh, hopefully stages changes after playtesting.
So somebody doesn't understand e-sports then.
Animal Crossing music is not fitting for finals. Fountain of Dreams is one of the most beloved stages in the game.
"There is nothing wrong with this stage, but it is the same as another, so you can't play in that one" is ridiculous. It doesn't hurt to have flavor. Hell, most fighting games just have BACKGROUNDS as stages.
I hope that I'm wrong on this, but I hope hazard-off stages like Great Bay means that swimming mechanics are off, but I'm sure I'm wrong on this.
was for a very good reason too. birdie is able to place banana peels or roll soda cans towards the opponent and they were completely impossible to see
wich was my point. its not unncany for comp to ban certain stages if it could potentially interfere with the raw gameplay in terms of figthing games.
I was talking about redundancy and over-selection, not the concept of banning things.
Abuse of visuals in a way that is unfair is a reasonable ground for banning.
Imagine if there was a legal stage where you could place Snake's C4 in a location that is totally invisible. Not exactly fun.
Smash already has it legal to force an opponent to change their costume color if they're purposely choosing one that blends too well in with specific stages (brown costumes and Kongo Jungle 64 were a problem like this in the past), so I don't see what's wrong with them banning the beach stage. They banned the airplane stage too because it was legitimately causing people to have nausea because they animated the motion in a way that doesn't seem realistic or possible for a plane to move in, speed-wise.
A. my post was a joke, which i would hope was blatantly obvious, B. That Smash rule is a courtesy just like the "gentleman's Smashville" clause and was only ever enforced specifically because of the N64 Smash which was the only one that had that problem, and C. It was a joke, ergo I wasn't saying "Actually fuck them for banning a stage"
It wasn't that obvious TBH because that's a legitimate sentiment I've seen people have in regards to the censorship of Mika and Urien at tournaments and the general mindset Capcom has had for it's organization of tournaments (most notably MvC:I's).
Yeah, but dose it fit within the competitive rules / new mechanics for Ultimate?
Is it too small?
i'm glad fun is banned at tournaments. fun causes levity, and reduces tension and stress. less stress means less stress-sweats and less sweat means less body odur and isn't that what professional
smash is all about in the end?
The tweet in reply mentions Stage Morphs.
Damn, I hope they implement a ruleset for that.
Like a Pick/CounterPick type deal, set to 1minute change. Would definitely make matches dynamic.
The only thing I can see that may ruffle some rule makers/comp is if stage shifts potentially cause SDs or changes the blast zone to the point where it ends up as a benefit to a player.
Altho, after seeing that the Luigi Ladder no longer kills either of the players, maybe the Blast Zones get disabled on morphing...
Who knows. I still think it would be top.
I'm still really curious as to whether they got rid of customizable special moves for non-Miis. I assume, since Palutena's now "set" moveset was a consistent talking point for changes, and the fact that there was nothing shown about them in any video, that they are gone, and I'm more than aware that they were too much of a hassle for people to actually want to use anyway, but I was always fascinated by them and really wish they caught on. There were a lot of cool little things done, and if they had went whole ham and giving every character 4 alternates per special like they were planning, it could've been a lot of fun just figuring out what variation is better for what context.
It was a cool concept but horrible execution. Keep in mind you had to unlock them by finding them randomly on Smash Run/Classic Mode/Trophy Rush, that's what made it dead on arrival. If it was implemented easily on the character select screen and easy unlocking, then it would have been quite cool.
That wasn't all of it, though. A majority of the custom moves were pretty lame. Usually being "stronger, slower version of move," "faster, weaker version of move," or everyone's favorite "Janky mess that's by far the best move of them all."
He's coming for that DLC spot.

A lot of them also introduced infinites. It's clear they didn't want to spend a lot of time balancing or coding them. It's just a novelty.
