It was a hassle to set up when playing with friends too. I think unlockable set movesets would work way better. Like the echo fighters, keep everything the same, but replace the b-moves by new moves, and call them variants or something, along with new skins. Not every character would be them, but the ones that have a lot of games would be the easiest to do. Sunshine mario, original mini, MM Young link, sports peach.... There's a long list of variant you could create by just changing the B-moves!
Grinding for them on 3DS was fine since I really enjoyed Smash Run. None of the modes on WiiU were worth my time at all so I never even got that many of them. Winning on 9.0 difficulty really should give you an assload of rewards.
I'm pretty sure the battlefield versions of stages is supposed to solve that since all the layouts and shapes are the same now unlike smash 4. Hopefully they get used.
Please explain the term "gentleman rule" to me
If both parties agree to it, you can play whichever stage you like.
"You just wanna gentleman's Smashville?" "Sure" Incredibly streamlined map-voting process just becomes picking Smashville. Gentleman's rules are useful for friendlies before tourneys start where you just wanna start getting practice in (and those are the only situations I've seen them used anyways). I haven't heard of any Smash Gentleman's clauses besides Smashville for Sm4sh though.
People will gentleman to Battlefield in Melee a lot.
Rumors seem to suggest that digital editions of Games on the Switch (atleast the Nintendo ones) seem to become available at midnight - others seemed to have mentioned that if you set your switch's timezone to the earliest "midnight"/"earliest 7th" one would be capable of playing the game earlier. How true is this? Sounds like a load of bullcrap to me.
YS and FOD without hazards are still different from BF though? Both have different blast zones, platform placements, and YS has walls under it.
Purely speculation on my part but I would assume the "time check" for unlocking the game would be an online process done by Nintendo's end.
Although Nintendo does seem like the type of company that would use the systems timeclock instead of checking online
People seem to base their thoughts on prior experience with other nintendo games purchased digitally.
so if i set my switch to 2020 i would be able to get the DLCs before everyone else.

Well, guess I need to look into tinkering with the OS’ System clock then
Wow, it's insane how expressive characters in Smash Ultimate are https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dr-lWnAXgAI-KEI.jpg
I'm gonna have nightmares about this SC6 abomination jfc
I don't care if its a pain in the dick, I am going to allow Hazard Switching for my tournaments so we can get use of FoD, Pokemon and Yoshis. They're far to major in my opinion to simply give up.
i'd expect there to be premade 100% saves by then
Wow, that Detective Pikachu movie promo stage has some... interesting graphics.
Problem is switch hacking harder than Wii U hacking at this time. You basically need to have a launch switch to use an exploit to gain access and even then Nintendo is actually checking so bans will happen.

Question for discussion: Would you be fine with no characters being cut from now on if it meant having no side content? No singleplayer of any kind, trophies/stickers/spirits/event matches/stadium games, no All-Star mode, the only mode available is Smash and all the options within that menu. You can fight AI, locally or online. That's it. No unlockables, either, everyone's here from the get go.
It’s a weighted question. Initially I’d say i’d be completely fine with cuts if it means fun side content. However: the moment they cut the characters i’m Interested in maining i’d probably walk away from the game for another decade.
I don't get this question considering the way Sakurai is setting up Ultimate, either it's going to be the last Smash game or it's gonna be the last Smash game he does before he finally takes a fucking nap and steps down from heading the series. Maybe asking this back during Brawl or Sm4sh, when characters weren't already all confirmed to be coming back, would've worked better. If we do get another game, Sakurai leading or not, I doubt we'd see characters get taken off the roster unless higher-ups specifically ask that they be removed.
one of my main draws towards Smash 4 was the singleplayer content since i didn't really have many friends that were interested in Smash at the time, and while that's slightly less of a problem now, the singleplayer content is still a major part of the game for me. i'd glady keep the singleplayer content if it meant cutting a few characters, it's part of what makes Smash the game that it is, at least for me.
Or, keep the characters and engine as it is, and throw in new characters and modes. Which is easier when you have the bulk of the game already made.
If the gameplay is fun, absolutely.
At this point, I just want them to continue upgrading Smash Ultimate with content ala Mario Kart 8/Deluxe and really hope that Wave 1 of DLC isn't the end of the line for game content for this. Games that constantly add content have proven that people will be willing to basically buy the game twice if it means the old content stays, so might as well use Ultimate as a base and keep stacking onto it with new content, just like how Deluxe added new battle modes. Upgrade some assist trophies, add a few single-player modes Of course, in terms of legalities, this might not be feasible, but on the hypothetical case that it is, this seems like the best way to go now. I'd gladly pay an extra $40-$60 for a Torna-style DLC pack that upgrades 7-to-8 assist trophies, gives them each stages and slaps in some more returning stages or items alongside some additional single-player content like Home-Run Contest, Break the Targets or Board the Platforms. Maybe even two seasons at that price if a later one focused on even more characters (but made sure to announce them before they sell it. None of this mystery bollocks.).
