Super Smash Bros. General v17: Everyone is DEAD! (except Kirby)

I'm going to be immensely upset if Menu 2 and Multi-Man Melee 1 don't return in Ultimate.
Everybody else was killed, hence why only Kirby was shown escaping, hence why Kirby was the focus of the rest of the cutscene, and hence why Kirby is shown as the only character at the start of the gameplay.
While my memory of Kirby lore is on shaky ground, I believe the villains of the Kirby games Sakurai was personally involved with are far less powerful than the ones he's faced more recently, elder gods and all that. If I had to pick one character from the 70+ before me to go in a head to head fight against what I assume is an omniversal force, it would probably be the pink puffball.
I don't think I've seen Facepunch devolve into Smash powerlevels yet. Its such a destructive topic for other forums and communities.
Kirby >> Ness = Shulk > Pit = Bayonetta > Luigi = Simon = Richter
You know what needs to return to Ultimate?

No weird cropped version like in 4, the full unadultered thing

He
Kirby not only fights god-power level beings in nearly every game but he's battled the concept of death and things that can literally twist reality for shits and giggles. I saw a lot of posts going "Shulk cast speed on him" But like, man. Kirby is comically overpowered that he's basically that Power-Man comic from ages ago. He doesn't need it.
I'd say end game Shulk is the closest thing but there's still a almost impossible power gap.
Then it becomes the usuals with the literal gods or people who have contended with them. Only character I wouldn't know where to place is Ness. The boy reaches enlightenment and gets a amazing power boost but... he doesn't achieve much with it and can't even stand up to the final boss alone- it's his party member that winds up being the key to victory. Like he's amazingly strong don't get me wrong here but there's not much to really compare him to even in his own game.
what would be the worst "last survivor" character?
Sakurai didn't save Kirby just because he made it. He most likely did because its the embodiment of Iwata's spirit and desing philosophy - wich was to create characters that are fun, relatable and lovable by everyone, and who else, even beyond mario, can be loved by anyone other than kirby.
I think it's a matter of power levels and having fun with it- and the idea that Kirby lets you sample other characters with his absorb so newcomers can get a "taste" of the rest of the cast while having a newby friendly moveset to use.
Also thinking about it further the only other option I can think of for surviving would be Bayonetta. She just jumps into her weird Purgatory spirit world where stuff doesn't effect her and just rides it out and pops back when it's done. I don't think people want Bayo to be the main character of this smash though
TBH I think it's just because Sakurai loves Kirby. It was the reason he and Dedede were a big part of SSE, and it's a big part of why he apparently is the star of the beginning of this story mode.
So I heard that Olimar might be good again? Is this true at all? Because what they did to him in 4 was shameful.
A separated Duck Hunt because I cannot emotionally cope with those two not sticking together until the bitter end.
It will be dumb if we can pick any character to be a survivor even though the cutscene shows kirby and hes like the only one that could have survived. I would deal with it for gameplay but it would be dumb.
Ridley. No other fighter likes him.
You're gonna be stuck as Kirby first but probably get Mario *real* fast.
it would make a great and romantic redemption arc though
So basically like SSE?
Your starting parties formed real quick in SSE, it just took time for all the groups to coagulate. Here we're starting from a single point since Kirby is the only one still alive at the start, but I imagine we'll have something akin to SSE's Mario/Pit/Link/Yoshi/Kirby squad within the first few levels of WoL.
Yeah if we look at the map where Kirby starts there's a very small road till you get to a intersection. In the trailer once you're there you already have Mario and interesting enough it looks like you unlock Marth to the left right away.
I'm assuming those big blue human shaped icons are unlockable characters anyway.
Also I think it would be a funny touch if you can unlock Marth by defeating Master Hand with 10 characters as that's the number he throws down.
Well it could be Rex is compensation because they decided that he in particular just isn't notable enough for one of the five remaining slots. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll have to have locked them all down already. Or who knows, maybe he even will show up.
As I've said before, I wouldn't count anyone who is already a Spirit or a Mii costume out. Assist Trophies are and have always been a different story, but we had costumes of playable characters in Smash 4 and with Spirits replacing collectible Trophies this time around (and having already seen some Spirits of playable characters), I wouldn't preclude anyone who shows up as either.
I'm sticking with Kirby just because he's one of my mains since forever and this might as well be "Kirby Smash Allies"
I hope he's on a good tier this game
*shrug* Fair enough.
DLC had to be planned out way in advance to get negotiations done with other companies if there are third parties involved. Negotiations aren't just one meeting and be done with it. It can span several months if not longer.
Maybe not, but considering Piranha Plant is a thing I don't think it's impossible to get something similar later down the line.
Reminder that the DLC pack specifically won't have echo fighters.
I don't think that means we won't get echo fighters as standalone though.
Rex is first/second-party though.
This is true, but I have a feeling they won't be stopping after the first year. Smash 4 was a different story. Wii U's underperformance led to extended post-launch support for many games getting canned, and on top of that, work on Ultimate started possibly as far back as 2015, back when Smash 4 was even still receiving DLC. I suspected they had to wind down any future DLC plans for Smash 4 quickly due to team migration to the next installment.
But Switch appears to have a long life ahead of it, and I imagine Ultimate itself does as well. This isn't a situation like ARMS where they stopped updating it because it was a new IP that no one ended up caring about, this is Smash, and Ultimate has a very good chance to blaze past even Brawl's sales figures. If player engagement ends up as high as I'm expecting it to be, I think Nintendo will very quickly consider going past that first year.
$1.99-2.99 for each echo fighter would be fair if they didn't come with a stage or music
Galaxy Brain : Kirby is the survivor because his moveset is the most beginner friendly with his strong recovery, small size and ability to learn the opponents moves before playing as them.
Are you saying Sans Undertale, Travis Touchdown, Springman, AND Waluigi's big stinky legs are all gonna be the next DLC characters? Is this confirmed?? Who's your insider??
Am I the only one who'd honestly be surprised if they didn't do a second wave of DLC, especially if the first wave sells well?
