I like the customized campaign modes but also still wish there was a "Random" battle order too. In the words of that one meme, "Why not both??"
Yeah I think the new formula would be cool as a side thing, like "Classic Mode Plus" or something. But I've always really digged classic mode as its always been, as a kid I would spend hours and hours just playing through it on S64 and Melee. It's all I really needed from it.
I don't really mind as long as there's plenty of solo content this time around. 4's challenges and classic mode just got boring fast, and the lack of Smash Run on the Wii U made things even worse.
I enjoy classic mode being different per character because it got boring after a while.

Classic Mode honestly has never gotten boring to me. It's always been the "pick up, play for a little bit, and then put down" mode for me. It gives me an objective to work towards unlike regular versus CPU matches. The only reason I didn't play it much in Wii U is because the tabletop stuff was terrible, and forcing non-multi man-esque 8 player battles into it wasn't great either. 3DS's Classic Mode was much more of a welcome change to the formula without changing what it was. It was Classic Mode.. just with optional routes. As opposed to Ultimate where it just changes the entire pace of the gameplay depending on what character you pick. Definitely would've preferred it as a toggleable option or something.
Are coin battles in this game at all? I don't recall them ever getting mentioned and like, I don't remember anyone ever actually playing that mode. At All.
Yeah, each character having a variation is nice. 64 was fixed (VERSUS LINK) but picked up steam near the end. Melee was kinda formulaic but still felt fair. Brawl was more repetitive due to fixed universes per stage (and thus you had a significant chance of being forced to deal with 75m or Rumble Falls very soon). 3DS was neat gameplay-wise but somewhat incoherent, and WiiU was just an abomination. This one, a short lineal campaign, but tailored for each character, is really nice.

The poor man. I can't imagine him browsing social media in peace.
I don't know about Classic modes being "unique". I feel like after everybody figures out what they did for every character's mode, the charm of each character having "unique" battles is gonna wear off. Adventure mode in Melee is fun because it's a brand new way to experience Melee play. It's fun to go through these adventure stages with different characters, and try to beat it fast enough to face Giga Bowser. SSE was fun because, again, it was a brand new thing, with so many unique stages, enemies to fight, and the cutscenes to compliment the experience. Smash Run I shouldn't even need to explain the appeal, it had the same aspect as the Adventure modes, but smashed together with City Trial from Kirby's Air Ride. What'll amount to a non-random Sm4sh Classic mode with some unique gimmicks like Ryu's matches only being stamina (because everybody was clamoring for stamina matches in a mode dedicated to grinding for unlockable characters) probably won't hold somebody's attention much longer, except for completionists.
I hope it's "Nintendo picks from the ballot" and not "Nintendo picks". Either way, it'll probably be a good DLC list.

The year is 2025, with a new smash bros game coming out, everything people ever wanted is in it. In the distance, Sakurai hears a voice... "Where is Goku and Sans?" Some say they never heard from that man again.
If Nintendo is picking the roster, that means no more weirdo picks for DLC ;~; BUT IT DOES MEAN MAYBE RHYTHM HEAVEEEEN?????
Yo pikachu is getting in for sure if it's Nintendo picking the cast.
Honestly hearing that nintendo made the picks for the dlc characters instead of sakurai gives me a small fear that we might get characters that end up being advertisements for future/current-yet-unpopular games. I'm still not used to how corrin was just an ad.
With Sakurai not even picking DLC characters, I have my doubts Sakurai will be in a leading role like he has been in future Smash games.
Ho-ly shit... Well...that's gonna make speculation make a turn...
Jesus my entire faith in the DLC of this game has been swept away in one tweet. I'm scared.
I'm getting even more concerned if Nintendo is picking the 5 without Sakurai's consent that they might pick Steve. Sure, I've questioned roster picks in the past, didn't like the base roster of SSB4 and thought that K Rool should have been in ages ago, but the man at least has a recognizable pattern compared to the unknown of others in the corporation who are likely responsible for Corrin getting in. Jarring edgelord humans like Dante? Sure, why not I guess, they still bring something interesting. Steve would just ruin the game for me by existing because I'd presumably have to play against them at least once, see their ugly design and acknowledge that of all the Microsoft IPs to get in, it had to be that one.
If that's his actual Twitter well bye bye Banjo chances.
All the Sm4sh DLC characters were ads, except for Lucas.
Mewtwo and Cloud Unless you really count X/Y for Mewtwo. Cloud had literally nothing on a Nintendo system until the Switch announcement.
Roy and Mewtwo are ads? Mewtwo maybe, but Roy?
How was Roy an ad? Well they could theoretically use him as advertisement for an N64 Replay or a port of Rare Replay, as currently doubtful as either are . . . .
So what fire emblem characters do you think we are gonna get?
we basically got the polite version of this https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DrW-nYPU8AAlBRB.jpg
He reiterates (basically saying) "Nintendo picks the DLC, I say if I can implement them. If not they repick and the process repeats."
the fact nintendo selected the DLC characters pretty much guarantees we're getting a Three Houses character
