Time to stop browsing /v/ and a few other places
oh boy... i wish there was a way to disable youtube thumbnails lol
They seem to be streamable links for the moment, so stay clear of those. I will also saySakurai was correct, there's not much beyond what was already shown to us.
Gonna be honest here, I'm not terribly impressed with any of the single player content in this one.
Really hoping theres a way to bypass all the annoying unlocking and just jump right into online play.
At least there's single-player content unlike Smash 4 which was barebones.
Its pretty sad that the best solo mode was only on the 3DS version.
Smash Run was a cool concept and I kinda wish we could have seen it expanded upon.
Smash Run was such a cheeky way for Sakurai to implement both City Trial and the Power Board from Kid Icarus Uprising. If there's any goof-around mode that should've made it back in, it's that.
Legit, I'd love something of a Smash Bros animated series.
If that's the size of the MP3 soundtrack then I'd hate to see the size of it in FLAC.
World of Light Opinion :
I can't say I'm disappointed, because I was explicitaly told not to be excited. And thats what was. Nothing exciting. Cutscenes, gameplay, everything about WoL.
I'm sick to death of this micro-custom garbage. It feels like a rather large portion of the game is just vapid nothingness.
I understand that, to Sakurai perhaps, the "Ultimate" Smash game must be bursting at the seems with content celebrating videogames. But they've done it in a fashion that just feels so cheap and lazy. In concept and execution, the fun of previous Smashs is just missing.
With all that in mind, I truely feel that all the music content and having every fighter back in the game makes up for what a let down the singleplayer content is. Onehundredbillion tracks of classic game tunes and remixes up the fucking wazoo is incredible.
I can understand feeling it's unfulfilling, but lazy? Every single Spirit has a battle custom made to them, from the adjustments to the music to the stage, and there's over a thousand. A fair amount of effort was put into the spirits, even if it could have instead led to a more developed, less expansive mode.
As much as I'd like another Subspace with a proper story and character interactions and everything, I've seen it as a one time thing ever since Brawl. It made more sense considering how long the wait between Melee and Brawl was, but I fully expected Spirits to not be Subspace 2.
Subspace fell apart once you started to play it.
I mean the battles are just recolored fighters with a png you can get off of google image search.
Its not terribly creative. Wow you're fighting 3 Sonics because theres blue hedgehogs in animal crossing. To me it just sorta makes the mode look pretty tedious.
It isn't a let down. It's just boring straight out the gate without much potential to improve.
I do hope I'm wrong and it is the best thing since sliced ligma. But with just 13 days to go and pretty much everything revealed in datamines and early releases, I can't find anything with WoL to be excited for.
I really don't want to seem disingenous and to disregard what could be developer's passion and effort for this game, but I just can't shake the idea that pumping out spirit battles is easy as piss. If you know the entire stagelist, music list and variables you can change when making a battle, it seems beyond easy to make these things in just a few minutes each. I don't know how they are made, so it is all just speculation. The only way they were gonna be able to justify gutting things like trophies was by making a shitload of these things. I also realize this isn't spoilers, but I don't wanna spook anyone trying to stay out of any loops :V
I'm not upset that WoL is IMO bad. Its another thing that hasn't been designed to appeal to me, which is perfectly fine, and the important thing is that people are enjoying it. The game would be worse off in its abscense. I just hate it when games get a sea of mediocre content over a small amount of high-quality, polished content.
my dude, it's completely fine if world of light, or spirits in general, isn't exactly your cup of tea but you went on a tirade on how ultimate ultimately (heh) feels like a lazy job while praising the return of EVERY single fighters and the soundtrack which is composed of more than ONE THOUSAND tracks
give them some credit, the spirit fights are often pretty creative. lakitu being iggy and a bunch of tiny red bowsers is hilarious for example, and hal emerich being doc and a giant metal ROB is great
I feel like every world of light encounter is going to give me a small chuckle for creativity.
Do we know if there's possibly any new stages that weren't revealed yet, or did all on-release stages get revealed before release, just like the fighters.
WoL feels lazy. I aplogize if my thoughts got scrambled and I said Ultimate was lazy. I know Ultimate isn't lazy because I know that Sakurai actually destroys himself when developing games and the game is basically a passionate climax of videogames. I also aplogize if it seemed like a tirade, it wasn't intended to be.
this isn't really spoilers but squad strike was confirmed to have three different modes
https://clips.twitch.tv/PhilanthropicPuzzledHeronPoooound
"After a fighter is KO'd, the next fighter will appear seamlessly": basically pm all-star mode
"The winner will start a new battle with the next opponent"
"Each pair of fighters is matched up. The winner doesn't stay in.": originally one of the two modes sakurai talked about in a famitsu column, i remember him calling it judo styled or something along those lines
Well, remind me of a memorable part of Subspace which wasn't a cutscene.
I said it before, but it does feel like World of Light isn't really a substitute for Adventure Mode or Subspace Emissary. Mostly Adventure. With no Break the Targets (which probably would be boring like Brawl since 74 fighters with unique stages might be a bit much), no Home Run Smash, and the Events combined into World of Light as essentially the makeup of the entire Spirits mode while Trophies get the boot for flat images with stat and ability buffs, it feels like an appeal towards the mobile generation of gaming with how it's all set up. Which makes sense, the Switch is advertised as a portable console, but I dunno. It feels like how with Smash 4, the 3DS cost us the Ice Climbers and held back both versions of the game from really being all that special - except in this case, having literally every single fighter and then a fistful of new ones took up so much of the work that everything beyond the core gameplay changes and tweaks suffered as a result.
When I hear "Ultimate", the roster of fighters and having literally everyone back is neat, but I guess I have different priorities because I kind of wanted the game to be a full package all-around instead of this. Consider me nuts if you want, i'm not even picking up the game until Christmas because for once I really don't have an urge to care for grabbing it day one.
Can I get a "Smash Bros Fans will never be satisfied" clap going on.
I have no idea what this has to do with my post but whatever, off the top of my head :
-The boss fights
-The Great Maze
-Some of the unique enemies (can only name Primids)
~the deep lore~
-Characters teaming up in various senarios (i guess this is cutscene stuff)
-Best Co-op of my childhood
-The fact that it didn't have Jiggs, TLink and Wolf in the story
-The Kirby Super Star level design
Unless you're looking for specific segments of SSE then I've just fucked this :V
I'll mark this as a spoiler if it's requested but I just find it funny and non spoiler-y
Apparently Cloud is not playable in World of Light and doesn't even show up in it. I really would not have minded if he was just gone at this point cause wow, talk about petty.
Maybe it's me getting older and more depressed, maybe it's because every game starting with Brawl has felt like quantity over quality, or maybe something else altogether.
But still, is it really necessary to be that rude about it?
smash bros fans will never be satisfied because there are a lot of them, and many of them like the series for different reasons. some people play the game casually, some competitively. some will only play it by themselves, and some only play it with friends. every series in the game has its fans and detractors, who are happy when their series gets love and attention and bitter when it doesn't. so of course every decision is met with mixed opinions, you'll never get such a diverse group to agree on anything
I'm turning 30 in a couple months and struggle with depression on a near daily basis so I don't think it's either of those things. I think it's just being entitled. There's not liking WoL after it comes out but declaring it lazy, bad or awful before even getting a chance to touch it is just cynical and terrible. Especially when we have reports from people who played it saying "Seriously give it a chance they get real creative and it's a lot of fun."
There's being let down that it's not subspace 2 (though sakurai literally said it wasn't) and being sad that there's no rendered cutscene of samus shaking pikachu's hand but that doesn't descredit the ton of work behind WoL at all. And catch you with some real world spoilers, when subspace actually came out in peoples hands- most people generally hated it outside a handful of bosses and the cutscenes and did not want to play it again. It was shit on everywhere. If you liked it that's great, but I'm at the point where I see pointless negativity and I'm just reminded of that games launch and SSE's overall reception.
Here's something vintage, but it is quite literally the situation we find ourselves in
