This was from the E3 build. I think taking it as racist is jumping the gun a bit.
The black villager alt is because depictions of ninjas in japanese culture come from stagehands that would wear all-black in plays to move actors/setpieces without "being seen". Therefore, black skin villager with a net "makes sense". Villager is short, steals items like Tac, is black like classic japanese ninja depictions. Don't try to excuse it as "maybe just the clothes color", ninjas don't wear bright purple.

Idk, the purple seems to be the darkest color the Villager wears in general, although the 4th alt is close but has the big white spot

Tacs in the Kirby games take Kirby's copy ability and you have to defeat to get it back, which it then releases from the sack on its back. The Villager was used because of the Pocket ability.

That's what I kind of love about the Splatoon universe. There's so many dark undertones with the lore, yet on the surface everyone is waging war over which end of a hot dog you eat first or something. You can just tell the writers for the universe just had so much fun.
