Regarding the 'Your choices don't matter' thing. I'm thinking it's less so based around the idea that you're hopeless and downer, and more so that life will just play out the way it's meant to.
Much like "Nobody gets to choose who they are in this world.". It's gonna take you for a ride, you don't get to choose the path it takes.
Even more so since Toby said there will be only one ending, no manipulating the story, it's gonna be thrusted upon you and that'll be life

I've been mostly off facepunch outside the smash thread so saw 50 posts and thought people were talking about how Toby was finally fed up with MatPat and called him out/scolded him.
Boy was I not ready for whatever the hell that all was
After playing the demo, I think that although we will ultimately not be able to change the outcome of the story, how we act will change the mood of our journey to the conclusion and leave us with a completely different perspective of what happened. In the demo, if we play nice, we get saved by Lancer and our former enemies, then are given warm farewell, but if we "genocide", we just have to leg it without any fanfare- the outcome is identical in both cases, but we are left with a different impression. Just like that, the ending can be essentially the same in the grand scope of things, but either leave us feeling hopeful/nostalgic or discouraged/cold. Toby telling us our choices do not matter is totally a ruse, based on what he said about his game ideas in the past, he probably wants people to play Deltarune like a "game hero", so essentially allow ourselves to act like an asshole without consideration for anything we do because of the assumption the ending will not change. And it will indeed not, but, to illustrate with an example, an event where a character gets hurt can either play out that we force them to fight for something they do not believe in and they suffer for it, or we encourage them and they end up taking a hit for us because they care for us. Either way they end up in trouble, but we in one scenario we feel guilty , and in the other- thankful.

the whole choices dont matter remind me the segments of undertale where toriel asks what kind of pie you want or the fights with mettaton and a few answers where people ask you about something like sans,you may answer or act diffirently but the end result is the same although in mettaton's case it was all a trick so that alphys can look better in the eyes of the characte.I imagine something similiar with deltarune where all the small choices matter while all the important ones wont change anything.

The MatPat thing? Game Theory Live (I think it's called that) did a big stream of a indie game called Heartbound. In the tags for the stream for it they spammed Undertale characters and names to game the system and they didn't actually put Heartbound at all. In fact they didn't mention the games actual title during the stream at all. There were no links to the store page or anything that could help the devs out.
Pirate Software, the team behind Heartbound tweeted at MatPat saying their lack of empathy in linking to the store and using false tags upset them and the community and politely asked for a store link to be put in the description of the video at the very least.
MatPat, being a absolute fuck, said no. "We don't give credit and never will" as well as a laundry list of "haha we're so sorry you're offended" type comments basically stroking himself off while throwing his "team" under the bus to absolve himself of all guilt. Toby caught wind of this and after being used for clickbait and having MatPat spew shit for years he finally had enough and decided to post himself.
