I'll definitely be popping on, I've been waiting for A17 to jump back in anyhow. I've seen though on Reddit that performance is pretty unstable for the experimental build, what kind of FPS are people here getting at the moment?
New build is out now. The server will be updated with it once the dedicated version is up. Takes around an hour.
Indeed, a new patch is out now, read the changelog here: https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?96766-Alpha-17-Experimental-B208-bug-reporting-thread&p=886034#post886034 Fun Fact of the Day about Alpha 17: the gun parts system was removed and replaced with whole guns, but now there are weapon mods.
I like how they got rid of excessive levels for gear, tiers get the job done much better imo and allow better focus in balancing.
Zombie AI is much, much better. Pretty much the whole AI system was rewritten, including sleepers, you should try it in-game. Also, no more zombies/zombie dogs going in circles.
Quality only affects durability and the number of mods a weapon has now. Damage is now only increased by your perks. All weapons now have secondary ammo types, which either do more damage or have an added effect. The patch reset your levels, so just a heads up.
I don't like the bit about the perks but hey that's a step in the right direction
Back then roaming around and scavenging was fun enough but my beef was that zombie sieges were a big chore.
There are some special mechanics included with perks, actually. And I think it's fine with guns, there are still different guns of the same type thanks to the weapon mods system and the quality. Depends on your specs, really; the last patch boosted my FPS, and right now the game runs as good as A16 for me, if not better. Some people with better PCs have lower FPS, and some with worse have better FPS.
I don't know if it was A16 but It was just about standing in the same spot shooting zombies that would keep running into the wall or themselves.
Bloodmoons can be a chore if more than one player is online and you don't have a choke point to run them into. Hordes are a lot better than in A16 otehrwise. They'll look for weak points instead of just wlkaing into a wall, they will try and avoid traps, unless there is no other path they can cross, and while surely not intended behavior, zombies will boost each other up to get over some things.
I got spooked. I jumped into the world then was kicked seconds later. Went back to check the server after a few minutes since I was having issues earlier, and the world was reset. Haha. Wasn't expecting that.
I'm half convinced @agrastiOs is a low key Fun Pimps employee at this point
I had to reset the world due to a corrupt chunk set. They made a tiny tweak to world gen which broke it. It's to be expected though. I'll try and warn of resets ahead of time but this time I had no choice since I couldnt get on nor could any of my friends. Future resets will only happen if major world gen changes are made
How did you find that out ?? Nah, I'm not an employee of Fun Pimps. Would be cool if I were I guess . Well, zombie sieges are certainly not as boring now. Now you actually need to do good base designs. But it's debatable if you would enjoy it. They already nerfed the difficulty of zombie sieges a bit, but there will be more balancing until Stable of course. If you wanted more interesting zombie sieges, but not easier ones, then it should be great for you. Talking about A17, I finally started playing it with my friends this week. Must say I've been having a blast, but there are still some things I would change.
As a low level/item player on a private friend’s server im fucking terrified of dogs. Breaking down a locked door when suddenly the fucking hellhounds wake up and chase me down and kill me is terrifying
if i'm gonna start playing this game should i start on stable or am i better off starting in a17
Wait til you find the Dogos poi After playing a17 experimental for a few days I'd say to wait for the stable release. I really enjoyed the changes in a17, especially the amount of different building generation and poi's but a17 can still be buggy and unbalanced in some areas.
Just a heads up for anyone on my server. It'll be reset again this weekend to implement some mods. I'm going to mod the world so that the missing things like skyscrapers spawn again. I'm also going to mod xp so that you don't need to spend all your time killing to level up. If there's any other tweaks you want let me know. The reset will be done by Saturday afternoon. As for the perfoperforce question, try a17 and see how it's running for you. If it's poor stick with a16 until the 17 stable is out.
Watch out about skyscrapers, I heard if you add them, they can sometimes spawn in wrong places and just crumble, causing incredible server lag. Balancing XP sounds good tho.
When I was in the server 2 days ago I watched a house load in for the first time a few blocks above ground and it fell apart spectacularly.
i watched 2 zombies destroy the base of the crane, causing it to fall and lag the whole server. During the lag they ran at me and killed me and there was nothing I could do. zombies are meta as fuck
Apparently one of the most common complaints is how easy zombies now can destroy blocks
Yep, that's an known issue for the devs:sometimes floating POIs (Points of Interest) generate.
Most of the changes are in place now. I couldn't change the XP gains, as I couldn't find the controller, but I set leveling back to a flat rate and lowered the EXP to level by about 33%. Every quest but the tutorial quests will also now award one level for completing them. I readded skyscrapers to the random gen. There shouldn't be any falling risk, as they're in a limited spawn group and the see I'm using doesn't have any floating POI. I haven't found any yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there somewhere. They're on the same spawn group as gun stores, hardware stores, and pharmacy now.
I was in the server earlier when a few folks were on, and got into a couple of close call shootouts. Haha. Broke the monotony of running from Zombies.
One of my friends died just before 30 mins from Day 7 Night and dropped his backpack in a city full of zombies. Guess he'll have to stay itemless and survive from the day 7 horde. Also, I'm pretty nervous. I never tried out the Day 7 in A17. Anyone survived it on the first try?
I did with my two friends. Was surprisingly easy in a home made shack with a fuck ton of wooden spikes around it (like it was fucking cocooned in them).
Honestly I like it a lot more that way. The game feels a lot more rewarding.
I can see what people mean now about the level requirements. Level 20 is pretty steep to do some essential crafting. I think getting it at Level 10 would be better.
