No worries, there will be a huge patch incoming today, with performance optimizations, balancing, retuning of melee, more powerful guns, new stuff and etc. That should increase the player count in the server.
The main reason my friends and I haven't been playing is the broken game balance and performance issues. We'll come back in when those are fixed up a bit, because one just wants to be a moleman, but mining sucks too much right now, one just wants to build, and that's not a problem, but the abd framerate and poor melee are keeping the others away.
Due to the melee problems, i was finding the shovel to be the best melee weapon. Just smack the zombie knee caps with a shovel to win.
These should be fixed. I heard they're giving mining more XP and zombie killing less, and buffing mining so you don't have to power attack to mine effectively.
Also, I only mostly needed to use power attacks to fight zombies, and that felt weird, but they're changing that so you will need to mix attacks.
Have they made the progression feel rewarding again?
No idea, however, they did promise big balancing changes.
I wonder when it will hit stable. I'll have a pretty decent xmas break soon, but afterwards I'll be working my ass off with the exam session and my bachelors thesis. I hope I'll have a chance to enjoy stable before that, otherwise see you in march lol
Any news yet? I'd love to play again with ya'll!
Also, does it matter if I start playing now? Or will characters reset with new patches and such?
A new patch (b211) came out like 15 hours ago. Many things were done, changes to level gating, XP gain from zombies and other activities, new caves, rebalance of zombies' HP, rebalanced guns damage and prices, traders have been overhauled, they sell mods now, and many more new items, rebalanced prices, the models of the traders look better, changed torch model, decreased jumping and stepping sound volume, settings to choose zombies running and walking speeds (you can choose five walk types for daytime and nightime, plus for each type of zombie), new food, drink, more dungeon POIs, new POIs, rebalanced loot, wandering hordes and gamestages, and many more stuff.
Alpha 17 Experimental B221 is out | 7 Days to Die
Will switching to stable reset the character progression? (Switch to A18)
They'll reset character progression when ever they change something about it. It's always been reset between test and release versions
A18? Do you mean A16?
shhh don't tell them about A18, they can't have it yet
Yeah I really enjoy Alpha 18, however the economy really went to shit in 2037 so that sucks
A small tidbit: they've been reworking the progression, they removed the level gates. Expect for a new build to come out soon.
The patch was released (B231). https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?100389-Alpha-17-Experimental-B231-bug-reporting-thread
From these two patches, a ton of balancing work has been done. Reworked melee, many balancing changes to XP gains, no more level gating for attributes, etc.
Wonder when they're going to do an animation overhaul. That's probably my biggest issue with the game right now, everything just feels so janky and the animations really don't help.
Just a prime example on how much animations help the fidelity of how games feel, new vegas. Normally it feels like ass, but animations help it a ton.
Also it makes headshots a lot more difficult than they should be because the zombies just bob their heads like they're possessed

That's actually the mocap for the zombies, the actor moved a lot.

Oh god it's so weird seeing those animations tit for tat IRL like that. Oh well, I guess I should just get better aim :<
They released ANOTHER patch today. https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?100647-Alpha-17-Experimental-B233-bug-reporting-thread
My favorite changes are floating POIs fixed, cities with skyscrapes are back, now the biomes are again more random (but more polished than A16) than just north cold and south warm, and reduced hunger, which was draining way too fast in the previous build.
And I keep getting better performance every build, this is great.
Is melee decent in this game now, at least at lower level items and such? Before zombies were a chore to kill. It was crazy.
Is anyone else getting towns filled with fucking wolves out the ass? A friend and I were exploring a moderately sized town out in the winter biome, and every fucking closet, bathroom and attic was filled to the brim with dire and baby wolves. Nothing is fucking scarier than having wolves drop down onto your head because they were lying in wait inside an ordinary house's ceiling attic
Old world. Make a new one.
I kinda like it honestly, but i'll probably be creating another world just to keep up the with the patches. This latest world has just been making me laugh so hard with all the wolf ambushes. Every zombie may as well be a wolf in this save
Yep, that's a bug from older saves. You should delete the old worlds in the game directory and create new ones.
