Well I don't remember that thing being an absolute pig to turn so I'd say, if you think DD's are nearby, try not to stay on a predictable straight line, wiggle, change course a lot etc.
depends on what you play. For BB's go with the usa because they are slow but they teach how to angle your ship.
I got my first tier 4 battleship for the Americans and I'm not quite sure how to play it. I've done decently well with cruisers and destroyers (particularly destroyers, those torpedoes fuck shit up) but in my battleship I feel like I'm either too slow to get to fights are tore up by 2 or 3 ships at the very beginning. I wasn't very good in heavy tanks in WoT so I'm sure there is some overlap there but should I be sticking back and playing an artillery role or just find the biggest group of teammates nearby and sail with them?
I usually want to be sat just behind a group so that you're able to have the enemy fire at you and you soak it up with some angle work, all the while your team mates are screening you so you are given plenty of time to see incoming torps and your team stop any DD's getting through to you. Also they're able to fire back at the enemy ships and not have to worry too much about incoming fire.
In practice though and if your team are brain dead/lower ranks it doesn't play out like that. I just try to stick with a couple of ships who are paying attention or sail with a friend (very uncommon these days, nobody seems to play)
I'd say for the most part, just being all the way at the back lobbing shells 20km + away is usually not useful for your team.
Also of course nations have slightly different playstyles, so you'll probably want to be closer to the action in a german BB, medium range with the yanks and probably at the furthest edge with the jap battleships. I haven't played in some time. I may have to jump back in.
The only class of WW2 ship I really know about is the Atlanta which is a premium that costs $42
I played World of Warships on a whim yesterday because of the holiday stuff and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It's a very inoffensive game in terms of the free to play/pay to win stuff and easier to enjoy than World of Tanks.
You get 3,000 free XP and 1 mil credit bundles for hitting certain player levels. The new player experience is much better than WoT and maybe it's because I've only played a few games but it feels like a lot of decisions were made based on NA/EU criticism of WoT.

This is some dank editing
New carriers coming out today and tomorrow.

About 1½ hours from this post for NA to go online. Approx 20 hours for EU.
i gotta relearn cv's again
I haven't played in a while, but it really looks like they're turning CVs into some Arty 2.0 shit huh. Shame.
i haven't played the new update, but if anything the old carriers were like arty in world of tanks in 2014
they were fundamentally broken and needed a change: this change might be awful but something needed to be done
The real meat of this update is you can now laugh at enemy CV players who manage to miss you with literally every single torpedo from every single part of their torpedo squadron and then resort to trying to annoying you with their rocket planes until your AA snuffs them out
otherwise its basically the same as ever
There are currently two things that need fixing with the new carriers.
1) Rocket planes fuck up DDs like nothing before, this has resulted in many battles with 0 DDs because nobody plays them with the current rocket planes flying around.
2) Abusing the return-squadron button to spam tons of planes. Hakuryu (T10) in particular is immensely abusable with that, someone got 550k damage using the return button to spam torp squads over and over again. Basically using it as a flying Shimakaze.
But overall, except for those two, the rework is better than before. Just needs balancing, which was known before the update, and said by WG.
Both rocket plane/DD balance, and the return-button abuse are being addressed "soon".
If you want to come back, wait 1-2 patches.
This huge blob of AA halved our FPS last night.

WG announced a hotfix coming within a few days (possibly Thursday). It will fix some of the more glaring issues with the patch like Hakuryu torpedo cancer and F-recall key abuse.
they need to buff tier 4 cv's so the planes won't die if you look at them
tier 4 has no AA, just avoid the few flak puffs and you can get most drops off most of the time
Bit of a bump from the third page but it seems with a coupon, I have enough coal to get any of the ships from the arsenal that aren't the Salem or Jean Bart.
Any of them worth picking up? I was thinking maybe stalingrad since I'm more of a cruiser player however from what I've read on the warships wiki, it sounds like a lot of clever positioning required and it will really suffer if your team is missing the majority of their brain cells. Potentially the flint too as I quite enjoy playing the Atlanta and a similar ship but with the ability to deploy smoke would be quite interesting. I also have the Benson and quite like that playstyle so I'd guess I'd be okay with the Black too but I'm not 100% on that one since the reason I stopped at the Benson was because the ships following it didn't seem like they had any actual massive improvements to be worth the grind.
Stalingrad and Flint are steel ships, not coal. Steel is only obtainable from ranked and clan battles.
Welp, I didn't even realise there was even more resources in the game than coal. SHIET, what a fool.
Yeah you're gonna have to go through a lot of suffering if you want any of those ships.
Each ranked season gives you something like 3-5k steel if you grind your ass off to rank 1. There's a new season every 2-3 months or so.
Is it actually worth playing ranked games in terms of rewards earned compared to standard random battles?
Also if I play it how likely is it that I'll run into try hards that will tell me off for going to a certain spot on the map because it's not meta or something?
Ranked is about as toxic as you would imagine.
Chat is cancer.
You'll be spammed with reports if you don't bring "meta" ships.
You'll be spammed with reports if you don't play the "meta" locations for your ship.
You basically aren't allowed to play the ships you want the way you want.
Otherwise, you'll be autobanned or auto-chatbanned by WG's amazing automatic report system just for having a certain amount of reports on you during a short time period.
Well then, guess I will give it a miss
it was fun for being chat band for 3 days for not doing anything wrong
Anyone still alive in the FPEU clan to invite my friend in?
Yup what's he called
it's 'dingledonger' :v
I'll feed him right in later tonight when I actually get on
