This dude cast Sleep 4 times in a row on me and killed me with 2 1/1s feels fucking great man
[Laughs in control deck]
I recently played a match where the opponent did some infinite turns thing with nexus of fate.
I'm not sure how they planned to win, because I didnt watch it out fully.
I got up at some point and the game auto conceeded.
So over the last week, we've gotten some nice Ravnica Allegiance spoilers, showing the guild mechanics.

Rakdos has a pretty nice one. Spectacle is an alternate cost you can pay if an opponent lost life the turn you cast it. Sometimes (like here) it's a cost-reduction effect, other times it changes the effect of the card. I'm guessing this was pretty heavily inspired by Rakdos, Lord of Riots back in RTR.

Gruul has something kind of similar to Unleash (the RTR Rakdos mechanic), except better. It causes the creature to enter with either a +1/+1 counter, or haste, your choice. I think that's a great mechanic for aggro, you can either hit fast or hit hard.
https://img.scryfall.com/cards/normal/front/6/7/671c94c1-df52-4985-ad78-3e1c9c78df18.jpg?1545218150
Simic, as expected, has a +1/+1 counters theme. Their mechanic is pretty much Monstrosity (from Theros), but slightly polished up. Rather than a creature permanently becoming "monstrous", the keyword just doesn't put the counters on it if there's already +1/+1 counters. There's stated to be ways to remove +1/+1 counters from creatures as part of paying for certain effects, which this would allow to be repeated. And just like every other Ravnica set, Simic will include counters-matter abilities like "Creatures you control with a +1/+1 counter get trample", so Adapt gives more of a bonus than just boosted P/T.

Azorius get a keyword for extra/altered effects that happen if you cast the spell during your main phase. Which means you'll be seeing a lot of instants and flash, because nothing else really makes sense. This is clearly inspired by the cycles in Time Spiral and Born of Gods that had similar effects, just not marked with an ability word.

Finally, Orzhov get a death trigger keyword, creating some number of flying 1/1 spirit tokens when they die. Kind of like Doomed Traveler or Doomed Dissenter, but potentially more than one token.
I'm not going to speculate much about power levels yet. We've seen three or fewer cards for each keyword, too much depends on costing. And I expect they've held the splashiest cards for later in the spoiler season - why use the exciting cards as samples of the mechanic, when the mechanic itself is novel enough to get us hype?
Instead, I'll gush over how nicely all the mechanics overlap. Spectacle gets helped by Riot's ability to throw fast creatures out for quick damage, and Afterlife's evasive tokens. Riot can work with the counters-matter theme in Simic. Addendum doesn't intrinsically play well with anything exactly but it doesn't work against them (and it honestly works better with other guild strategies than Detain or Forecast). There's even some nice overlaps with Guilds of Ravnica mechanics - Afterlife makes tokens for Convoke and fills the graveyard for Undergrowth, Riot can give you small hasty creatures for a surprise Mentor trigger.
Light Up the Stage looks like it was made specifically for burn lol

If you guys are interested in a deck list for the pauper event, I'm currently 13-0 with my BG value deck lol.
4x Divest
3x Hired Poisoner
2x Vampire Neonate
4x Burglar Rat
2x Costly Plunder
4x Doomed Dissenter
4x Vicious Offering
4x Saproling Migration
4x Yavimaya Sapherd
3x Thallid Omnivore
4x Siege Wurm
8x Forest
8x Swamp
4x Golgari Guildgate
2x Foul Orchard
You out value basically everything and have tools for every matchup. The only thing I haven't really played much against is the mirror or against mono blue aggro, but both of those might be where this deck is a lot less good.
It took a bit but I finally got all 4 wins for the pauper event.
12 Island
12 Plains
1 Healer's Hawk
2 Silverbeak Griffin
3 Parhelion Patrol
2 Kitesail Corsair
2 Aven Wind Mage
2 Muse Drake
2 Watcher in the Mist
1 Snapping Drake
1 Pegasus Course
2 Knight's Pledge
2 Luminous Bonds
2 Candlelight Vigil
2 Dazzling Lights
2 Blink of an Eye
1 Essence Scatter
1 Disperse
1 Devious Cover-Up
2 Waterknot
2 Dub
1 Anticipate
1 Disdainful Stroke
1 Unexplained Disappearance
I didn't have enough to make a consistent deck so I had to make do with throwing anything that worked into it. And surprisingly enough, it does fairly well! It's WU so it's basically designed ruin the opponent's momentum while you spawn millions of fliers and put enchants on them. I bet everyone in the format hates me now
It gets completely destroyed by token decks and super aggro, though. In any case, I loved the event but if I ever have to go through that hell again, I'll just bounce
Spoiler season continues:

Control decks should be happy with this reprint. It brings it into Modern, even, which is nice.

Have I mentioned I like hydras? Because I like hydras. This is a good hydra.

An automatic four-of in any Adapt decks. Even then, I'm not sure if Adapt will be viable in constructed play.

The card effect might be only 7/10 but that name is a solid 10.

I really like stuff that grants your burn spells abilities they don't normally get. And this is a crazy good creature even without that - menace + deathtouch makes him a guaranteed two-for-one if they ever block him.
There's more nifty cards that have been spoiled but I think that's enough for now.
If Amplifier said "in any order" instead of a "random order" I could see it as a 1-of in a burn deck lmao, but yeah the card sadly doesn't look good at all.
Pod on a stick looks like it could definitely be really strong. I think with all the strong phoenixes in standard I could see a RUG deck appearing, but I haven't looked to closely at the card pool outside of arena lol
The Sphinx's Rev on a stick hydra looks really good in theory but since it can't be cast at instant speed I don't think it'll be busted or anything. Maybe something you bring in game 2 against slower decks but the meta is a little fast for a 6+ drop.
Made a Zo-Zu the Punisher deck for edh. Made a guy who thinks Atraxa super friends is casual quit turn 3.
I only managed to get 2 of those in total.
I didn't have the right cards to make good pauper decks, and I didnt have common wild cards.
This card is nuts:

I have Emerkul the promised end. How should I build around her? She looks really strong at first glance.
She'd probably fit well into a black deck with card discard, since that would help you get her out faster. Though it hard be hard to say what the right deck for her is, since colorless creatures are flexible.

(Watch out for flyers with death touch.)
More card spoilers came out.

The new domri rade planeswalker card is revealed.
Really looking forward to trying out new Orzhov cards. Teysa's a perfect fit for a BW Aristocrats deck, plus she has good synergy with her first incarnation for pumping out spirits.
For limited blue and green look like they are going to be strong colors since the simic mechanic looks nuts.

Like this card looks pretty nuts as a common
There are less than 25 of those in the game:
o:flying o:deathtouch · Scryfall Magic Card Search
True, but Baleful Strix is a pretty common sight in Modern, and Nightveil Predator is common in Standard.
And Arcane Flight or Cobbled Wings are cheap and easy ways to create a flyer with death touch. Than again I might be overthinking the chances of encountering a strategy aimed at one specific eldrazi.
Emrakul (promised end) is more likely to be hit with removal, than something like a death toucher with flying.
I'm glad I used a bunch of mythic wildcards on Teferi and Nexus of Fate.
Didn't realize there was a MTG thread here. I made one years ago but it just died. Well, this one seems close to it since the last 5 posts over the last month is just ASIC
@Fire Python Didn't realize you also played MTG, or limited for that matter. Yeah, Simic has some really good limited cards, its just a shame Orzhov is just disgusting with some of their bombs and removal. Like Ethereal Absolution? Really? How is this card legal lmao
