I mostly play Point Extraction. Bad nitra spawns can fuck you for sure and my success rate is low but, I don't feel like it's impossible. Not tried Salvage on Haz 5 but Im not a fan of the mission type anyway. Locking players into tiny control zones doesn't work well with the game mechanics imo.
if i ever play haz 4+ i stay far away from extraction and salvage. its too much of a clusterfuck literally all the time and seemingly if one person ever gets downed it just eventually snowballs
I played Haz 4 earlier and it was way, WAY too easy. I don't know what the fuck is going on with the balancing right now.
The new update is pretty snazzy for something so small, the map generation additions vary things up a lot. I had a map where there was a massive vertical drop with tunnels going through it at the top and bottom. I had dropped a resupply at the top, but was later exploring the bottom. I had to keep grappling my way up from top to bottom to manage my ammo. Flying all over the place with the new grapple in these new caverns is a lot of fun.
Next update is focused on new enemies, and oh god https://twitter.com/JoinDeepRock/status/1101117356963753985
how best to deal with the new roller enemies?
Their biggest weakness is that they can't climb sheer cliffs while they're invulnerable. If you can get to high ground, you're safe and can wait them out until they unroll.
Game has a free weekend going on right now! https://steamcommunity.com/games/DeepRockGalactic/announcements/detail/1814293102938066793
Having so much fun with the free weekend I'm going to buy it. I almost want to wait until the 25% off is over so I can give the devs more money.
is it just me or is the hazard filter not working? i have it set to only show 3-5, but i still get shown plenty of 2's
When I fail a mission, I've noticed that it's usually because I get stuck on one section of the cave. If you start getting swarmed and people start dying, juking the enemy and reviving people is often not that hard, but the problem is that if you're on limited ammo and running around reviving people you don't have time to look at your map to find the next area. Eventually you'll stop making progress on the objective and run out of ammo. I think situational awareness and planning might go a long way in this game. If you make good use of the map during lulls in combat BEFORE things get dire, and figure out where the next place you'll need to go is in advance, I bet you could make it out of a lot more tough situations. Figuring out where every possible cave exit is ASAP when you enter a new room would make things more efficient and could save your bacon.
Just buy it now. They have a supporter package you can buy later if you really want to help them out.
I just had a great time playing with people on the DRG discord. They've got parties in their discord voice channels all the time and it's a lot more fun playing with a group of people like that. I'd recommend checking it out. https://discord.gg/vX4dNBB
Me and 2 friends bought the game plus the other goodies, it has been a lot of fun so far. I still have some troubles with how the lighting works, like my brain has a hard time understanding what is going on.
On further play, it turns out that armor break mods can take off their armor in ball form. So Gunners with armor break on their primary weapons absolutely shit on Shellbacks, and more reliably than finding high ground, as Shellbacks can sometimes find a way up.
One of my favorite things is to just use the Engineer's line gun to completely deshell praetorians, and the rollers now, in one shot.
As someone who already fantastic underground environments, I love how this game looks. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/204503012046143488/552427837030924288/unknown.png
its hard to tell to people about bugs in a game filled with them. https://streamable.com/odi7d
I played this back at PAX last year, bought it this weekend, and it's incredible to see how far it's come. In particular I enjoy the flow of the game, and how it transitions from Minecraft-esque exploration to Left 4 Dead-esque survival and back again, and then ending each mission with the timed gauntlet. It's a good structure, and the cave layouts and digging mechanics give the players a more active role than just following the map. I also really like how each character has both a combat and non-combat role to play, and they all feel meaningful- my group is three people, and we've been really torn as to whether we like the Driller's drill or the Gunner's zipline better for team support. Overall I'm impressed so far, and I wonder how GTFO will compare.
Game looks like a lot of fun, although I don't have any friends to play with. Is there some FP group going on or is it even worth to play with randoms?
Randoms are fine. I've only had one or two instances of problems with them, and the last time was like six months ago. They are at the bare minimum capable of mining resources near them and shooting bugs, and most generally know what they are doing.
Been playing quite a bit of this recently, gotta say the Gunner is my favourite class at the moment, especially with the autocannon.
Loving the new update, being able to further mod your turrets for different situations has me trying out all the different combinations to see what fits for me. LMG platform + Defender system my god that thing is a beast. But of course that thing only excels in open areas. I honestly can't choose between the two different turrets, one monster of a machine or twins that just sucks your ammo dry but you can count on the twins watching your back.
https://twitter.com/JoinDeepRock/status/1133724129478283265 Looks like the lore terminal might be coming soon! (though I guess it could be daily adventures?) I've liked what we've seen of the setting so far, the whole idea of a massive space corporation coldly sending mass numbers of miner-mercenaries into absurdly dangerous situations for mediocre pay, profiting from their deaths, not particularly caring about whether they survive, and we're seeing it from the perspective of those people being exploited, and they're all totally stoked about it is really interesting to me. They're hit with so much military/corporate propaganda (the posters in the memorial hall look straight out of the USSR) that they're all cheering propaganda catch-phrases while they march off to get themselves dead. I'm interested in seeing how they expand on the world. also https://twitter.com/JoinDeepRock/status/1134416580216020993
This game is scratching my TF2 itch so bad. I love "real" situations taking to its logical conclusion.
https://twitter.com/JoinDeepRock/status/1136997266638680064 God damn this next update sounds huge. Weekly extra-hard 3-mission campaigns with procedural objectives that reward you with the ability to call in extra side objectives in normal operations, which then reward you with one of 100 special upgrades, or special cosmetics. It's going to be a while though, it's slated for august/september.
God damn, Deep Rock Galactic has had the best development cycle for an indie game in early access I've ever seen. What we have right now is basically a full game already and shit just keeps getting better.
I just read that update, it sounds fucking amazing! Need to grind out my engineer in that case, only a few more levels to go until promotion!
This game gives me hope for the industry, no joke.
