It would actually be cool to have an entirely immersive mmo where people RP without knowing whos an AI and whos a player. Kinda like the assassin's creed MP where you can blend in with the AI.
Although a name pool would be pretty much required, like a set list of names you can choose rather than people coming up with their own names, because you'd get people with fucking retarded names.
Today I moved my first steps into the online mode. I reached rank 8 after two hours or so of gameplay, which mostly revolved around queuing for random PvP matches.
To be perfectly honest, I'm liking the experience so far. As mentioned, PvP matches are definitely my personal highlight from the whole thing, since they usually devolve into massive shootouts between opposing players and there's a surprising high number of different modes available, each with its own gimmick and strategy.
Story missions and free roam events are basically a poor man's version of the content from the story mode, but I guess I have to level my expectactions to the online nature of the mode. Still, the ability to partake in them with the help (or the opposition) of other players extremely easily adds some peculiar value to the experience (I'll never forget the first time I saw me and other players seamlessly integrated in a single cutscene, for instance).
This will come to the surprise of no one, but yeah, the progression system is, shall we say, questionable, especially given the great amount of time or in-game currency required to actually increase your characters survivability/deadliness. It really feels like the developers put artificial barriers to progression either to slow down players and preventing them to burn out all the available content at launch and/or goad them into resorting to micro-transaction.
The one thing that bothers me the most is clothes being locked behind player's rank on top of hefty prices, which, again, in my humble opinion, serves no purpose but artificially preventing me from acquaring what I want earlier
After a bit of server lag, I manged to get the catalog to give me a second cattleman and it even let me buy a Schofield and customise it a bit, but you can see the big hunk if gold coinage it cost me!

playing through a second time. Charlotte is so fuckin hot
welcome to GTA online 2, electric boogaloo.
looks like the RDR2 thread is turning into a Cowboy Action Shooting thread. This is an improvement.
Makes me wonder why the base game doesn't have any cap-and-ball conversions or anything like that, and think about what guns they're gonna add in DLC.
The only way I'd even remotely br okay with weapon DLC is if they add it to the single player as well. I dont want a repeat of GTAV having the multiplayer get all the fun.
Who?
Chapter 6 stranger.

This lady right?
Yup
That quest line is just nice wholesome Arthur bring a good guy content. Not doing something to gain something, just doing things to help someone in need
Meeting her in the epilogue was very satisfying as well, seeing that even after Arthur passed that this woman was able to carry on because of what he did.
This channel has a bunch of videos about exploring outside of the map, epilogue spoilers. There is as ton of landmass outside of the usable area, gets a little low res but the actual world mesh is still a detailed. Here are a couple, there are more on the channel, pretty neat.

Weird how you can still travel on those bits and mostly without issue either.
Since Saint Denis is based on New Orleans, quite a few of the buildings are inspired/based on buildings in New Orleans.

It's the only way to get to Mexico without cheats. It took me about an hour to get there from the point I started at.
Something I saw posted in that GTAForums thread:
Hanging out in Blackwater as Arthur, I'm thinking after going through Arthur's journal again, that the gang's camp in Blackwater is literally right on the southwest side of town. There is both coffee and stew available there. I tried setting up camp there, expecting a you cant set up in town message, instead I was told I'm already at a campsite. Arthur's shaving mirror is also at one of the tents, although it can't be accessed. In Arthur's journal it indicates the Blackwater camp was close to town, and that they were effectively hiding in plain sight while there.

For being only about rank 13, I think I made my online character look fairly presentable.
That said, I think I'm done with Red Dead Online altogether. Technically, I paid for a whole month of Playstation Plus and the mode is still in beta, so maybe, just maybe it will be "fixed" in a near future, but, as things stand, repeating the same eight story missions ad nauseam and getting in PvP matches just to be one-shot by grinding-happy players just to scrap enough money, ranks and gold to (A) mantain my character serviceable and (B) try to improve him is very, very far away my own idea of fun
I've noticed now that christmas happened, the game seems to be a lot more populated with assholes. Every city is a battlefield, and you have to make a mad dash to the nearest shop just to have a little bit of safety. It doesn't help that the game automatically spawns you near the most populated cities when you load in.
Beat the story mode, absolutely fantastic game. Just with they showed where the remaining side stuff is after beating it for 100% completion.
Is it just me or is the singleplayer kind of... difficult to enjoy on a second playthrough? When I first played through the game it was a fucking blast, I couldn't wait to get into the next mission and I found pretty much all of them really enjoyable. Been replaying the
beginning of the game for my girlfriend yesterday and today (she didn't like the prologue at all and prefers to watch others play anyway) and I couldn't help but feel pretty damn bored or at least not very motivated most of the time. Got to the end of chapter 2 eventually
and I had to stop. Once you know the story and the characters it becomes way more apparent how simple the mission design is like 90% of the time. Sure, the banter between the gang members is still enjoyable and the indiviual gameplay systems are interesting in their own ways, but in the end it's just shooting gallery after shooting gallery with really long stretches of horse riding seperating them.
Maybe I've just burned myself out by playing the game like a maniac on release, but... anyone feeling the same way?
NakeyJakey did a pretty good video talking about the mission structure and how it's old as shit in design, they want free roam but not when it comes to the missions anymore, they have to follow a set path that Rockstar have set out for you, like having to hide cart in the swamp but it's a specific place that you have to hide it, I don't even get that one it's so stupid.
Yeah, saw that video too and I simply had to agree. Kinda sad.
I guess I just won't touch the game for a while until there's some kind of DLC or proper online content.
Well, Red Dead Redemption II not only is a game which likes to take its time with immersion and realism, but it's also surprisingly long for a non-roleplaying videogame (which are often finished in 25-30 hours), and I'm only thinking about the bare main story content plus any stranger quest chains and random events you may stumble upon your way. Hell, the story mode even features a chapter, the IV one, which is universally considered useless filler and a playable epilogue 10-15 hours long.
So yeah, after the novelty of the first playthrought is gone, playing the game again from scratch seems more like a huge hassle than anything else.
It's also worth mentioning that Red Dead Redemption II lacks the replayability of a roleplaying videogame proper: different content and lines regarding Arthur's current honor level do exist, but they are so far and in-between that they don't change the overall substance
I absolutely won't replay it since it hides so many activities behind missions. I tucked away a chapter 3 savegame but knowing me I won't come back to it either since for me doing freeroam stuff in any game immediately feels pointless once the story is over.
D'Angelo's "Unshaken" is up on streaming services now.

Now we just need the rest of the soundtrack.
I want a longer version of That’s The Way It Is >:(
The in-game version sounds better to me, not sure why they didn't release that one instead.
