The interview brings up a good point about video game acting: you can tell immediately tell the difference between a game where the actors are motion-captured all together with their voice recorded, and one where the voice actors are locked up in a booth and read their voicelines with the animation done later. Except for L.A. Noire, Rockstar has an outstanding history of doing it like the former, and it shows; both the players and the actors feel more immersed in the characters. Naughty Dog also does it and it's awesome. Meanwhile, Ubisoft keeps doing it the other way and it shows. Sometimes the dissonance in their games is downright cringe-worthy.
L.A. Noire was only published by Rockstar, they didn't develop it.
People say this but they had a heavy hand in developing it too.
I accidentally ran over and killed someone with my horse in Saint Denis, a foot from a cop and he didn’t give a shit, lmao.
I've been giving the game another chance, and while I do have my gripes with the overall sense of control, at the very least I'm getting used to it. I still hate how intolerably slow everything is and how obsessed the game is with wasting your time, and I'm also very annoyed by the game repeatedly taking away your weapons during story missions and forcing you to use a sidearm instead of that rifle you just got and wanted to try out, but at least there are a couple of ways to have fun, like dual-wielding sawn-off slug-loaded shotguns and unloading all four shots into one poor dude. Also, this game has a dodge maneuver – pressing X while moving left or right while aiming. It's no Soulsborne dodge, but it is pretty cool I guess, and I have fun dodging into or out of cover to kill people with those fuckin' shotguns. The crafted ammo is great fun, too, but you can only craft one bullet at a time, and you have so many caps on how many resources you can carry at one time and that includes explosive and incendiary bullets. I get that in multiplayer it would be unfun to get steamrolled by lvl 100 cowboys with fire bullets but c'mon, this is the single player mode. As it stands, the craftable ammo types are too precious to use in normal gameplay and hanging onto them for special occasions means little when I'm not going for 100% completion anyhow. Surely this will be something that mods on PC will fix, though. Surely.
I've never used any special ammo in single player, mostly because I made a point about headshooting everything and everyone
Only time I use special ammo is the express rounds to hunt the big game with. Buffalo, bears, elk, etc. A headshot with one of those makes sure it's a one-hit-kill. For people, I just don't really feel or see any difference so I just use the regular ammo. It's cheaper, anyway.
Headshots aren't instant kill though. The high power ammo for Claire's revolver pops heads quite easily.
I only use express. I don't see any reason to use anything else. The price difference between regular and express is so miniscule that it doesn't even matter.
Indeed, I like to watch them suffer fir ... ... I mean, indeed
Regular ammo is technically cheaper in that it's the most common ammo you'll ever loot off of anyone.
Great actors, horrible interviewer.
Does the guy with the Rare shotgun respawn? the bastard killed me and he wasn’t there’s when I went back
Apparently they don't but he killed me the first time I found him and I went back a few missions later and he was there with it
Only after you leave the area for a day or so. If you killed him and leave, however, the gun will disappear forever.
Cheers to the both of you!
Ran into a weird bug or something. At the start of my second playthrough, I boosted my honor to max to buy the Honor outfits. Bought every outfit in the game, then went and tanked my honor for a low honor playthrough. I put the Black Frock Coat (from the high honor outfit from Wallace Station) on an outfit and was using it every now and then. Went to change clothes and the Black Frock Coat was missing from my wardrobe, but still on my outfit. Travelled back to Wallace Station and it said I never bought any of the outfits from there? But still let me buy the Honor outfits with zero honor.
RDO is getting a new update on the 26th. From the looks of it, there's no new content unfortunately. Mainly just stuff to prevent griefing. Red Dead Online Beta Update
Explosive Bullets are actually really good. They're a 1hit-kill to anywhere on a person, meaning they are good if you are in a situation where you are swamped, can't afford to linger on a single target for too long but can afford to take snapshots in Deadeye - which I recommend using, as even if you spend upwards of an hour collecting Animal Fat and crafting a full load then you still won't exactly have a ton. Sure, you have the *option* to dual-wield both guns with explosive rounds but don't. Put them in just one of your two pistols (or your repeater/whatever, I only used the things with revolvers and the Rolling Block, remember that these things are a moderate bitch to get) I have never tried incendiary shells at great length. They may be good on the Semi-auto shotgun to completely maximize any damage input but I just dont want to farm moonshine at this very late point in the game where I am out of money and trying to farm honor for a better ending. One thing I am not sure many people knew - I didn't, and by the time I figured it out I was on Act 5 and low on the rather generous amount of cash I had aquirered: The Semi-Automatic pistol, repeating shotgun and one other type of pistol can only be bought at Valentine or Saint Denis's gun stores. The semi-auto is great - incredibly fast fire rate, fills the niche of rapid fire surpression weapon that I thought this game lacked. Wield two and abuse Dead-Eye for some hot Max Payne action.
can't speak for multiplayer but frankly doesn't matter what 'meta' you use in singleplayer. the ammo variants plus the stat boost you get by consistently using the same weapon ultimately means that you can use whatever you most enjoy without it being a totally meaningless decision. there's both human learning/input, situational decisions about ammo type and artificial stat gains at work that make everything viable. maybe less true with shotguns but it's a very refreshingly fun and reactive take on gunplay that clearly puts immersion before anything else.
Plus sometimes the damage don't make sense anyway, many a time have I had one npc survive a headshot or critical body shot, and then the next moment, I kill someone by shooting them once in the shin.
I've done multiple bounty missions for this man. https://twitter.com/i/status/1096845121532936193
So it turns out they somewhat broke Beard growth in the day one patch. I was using the Van Horn trick to try and get a max beard in chapter 2, but it'd always get stuck on 7 for the chin and chops, and allow me to grow to 9 for the moustache. No matter how long I tried doing it. After reading something on GTAforums saying if you uninstall the update, beard growth will work properly. So I did it. Then went back to Van Horn, and went from 7 all over, to 10 within 5 minutes. Now I can go drinking with Lenny with a max beard. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1751/8eccbdf7-09c0-45de-95fb-f96e771ad84b/image.png
More info on the Red Dead Online update next week. Looks like we're getting some new content after all. A new repeater, and a special variant of the double barrel shotgun along with some new clothes. Red Dead Online Beta Update Arrives Next Week
Player Visibility As part of our response to community feedback on how to minimize certain types of destructive player behavior, we’ve made some changes to the way player blips will appear on the map. Firstly, we’re reducing the visibility of blips over long distances – your map position won’t display to other players unless you are nearby (within 150 meters) and if you are slightly further away you will only appear when firing your weapon. Players in other towns or regions, for example, won’t be visible. This prevents players from being repeatedly targeted across the map at long distances.
Thats the gud shit.
That is a very welcome addition/change, I haven't played online for a while mind you because I'm waiting on content like more missions and what not.
I have a feeling that after this update hits, the map is gonna be filled with red dots, and just a few of us good boys and girls will be hidden. Pretty much everyone I know killed a fuck ton of lawmen to get XP and are at the lowest honor. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Do you still have to spend real money to unlock literally anything within a reasonable timeframe?
Yeah there's still a few things that can only be bought with gold bars, but most other things can be bought with regular money.
I really hope they end up putting in some sort of larger goal that you can work towards. Maybe something like you purchasing those house and ranch lots that show up in the epilogue and upgrading them or something. Just feels extremely barebones, the only things it seems you're really working towards is a higher rank so you can buy weapons/clothes/horses.
