I knew this was gonna be a shit show after the trash fire that is GTA:O
Yeah the cash situation is pretty bad, i mean i found ways to make it work with some hunting and treasure maps from gang hideouts. (Already bought and upgraded all the guns i wanted) but i could imagine that not everyone enjoys fishing/hunting for hours, just to get what they want. I will say i hope like gta:o they add more clothes with updates. Cause i do find the current selection a bit lacking.
I feel like with GTA, the overpriced stuff at least made some sense because modding was a big issue. People were buying modded accounts with trillions of dollars, exploiting insane money glitches, etc. Red Dead Online, doesn't have any of that, at least not yet. So there's really no reason to give things ridiculous prices besides just being greedy.
I was going to comment the same thing; but even in Single Player I was always super impressed with missions involving moving trains. I think it's a combination of all those things you said; but the world itself already feels very alive but the trains are so detailed on the smaller scale, it's crazy to think of it as this large dynamic moving space and shooting hostiles that are keeping up with the train on horseback or simply standing land feels rewarding for some reason.
A team based tug of war style mission where you have to try and control as many cars as possible before the time is up, all while the train is moving would be interesting to play, means you couldn't just sit there, you'd have to try and push forward to push the enemy back to claim a car, and they'd be doing the same
I know we aren't talking about a strict roleplaying videogame of sort, mind you, but the karm ... I mean, the honor system at work in this game just baffles me most of the time, especially for such an important mechanic that changes how the game's world will reacto to you.
On one hand, a good honor rating is objectively the best way to go, on both a gameplay and a narrative standpoint. You get a discount at shops and, from time to time, rescued/saved people will award you money and even a free purchase at a given seller. Aside from that, NPCs, be them major or minor, will be more favorable to you, which has its comfy perks. Also, an honorable Arthur gets arguably the best moments and the best ending he could hope for during the main story. Also, rising your honor is pathetically easy, to the point it can be done (more or less) quickly by greeting random people during your travels. Theoretically acting honorably should come at the cost of your few precious money and other missed opportunity, but halfway through the story you get so many of those that it becomes a no issue.
On the other hand, achieving a low enough honor rating is surprisingly difficult, to the point you must actively work on it. The best way to do so is to commit crimes and screw over NPCs, which the game also presents you as "lucrative" and the main drive to act like a murderous asshole, but the law system of this game is so draconian and the consequences for committing crimes so severe and expensive that I still wonder why someone should even bother. And, again, in single player at the very least, money becomes pretty plentiful after a certain point. Furthermore, making Arthur a jackass will result in both townfolks and gang members to resent him, which, in a game where interactions with NPCs is of great importance in order to progress and do your stuff, kinda makes your life harder. Finally, a low honor Arthur most definitely gets the shortest stick around when it comes to the story, especially the ending.
It also doesn't help that, at times, the game will make Arthur act in cutscenes like a asshole or a perfectly fine man regardless of my actual honor and newspapers and even NPCs will often report my actions in the exact opposite way as how I performed them
The irony of hyper inflating prices due to modders is it just forces otherwise non-modders to actually mod to survive. It's a vicious cycle.
They want to combat modders but they punish non-modders enough to make them want to mod...
Many have suggested it, but I think they may pull a switcheroo with the prices and lower them a bit to make them look like the "good guys" but in reality it was a test to see how much they could get away with, and the "new" prices will actually be the prices they were meant to be in the first place.
I also find some of the honor procs to be silly, like in the one debt side mission, you get negative honor for looting bodies that are years old.
Don't get me fucking started on looting.
Apparently, in the Far West of the late XIX century looting the corpses of either (A) criminals and such who where shooting me with murderous intent prior or (B) people I didn't have any hand in killing whatsoever was a capital offense
I think it funny that you lose honor for looting a lawman, but if there is that random event in which a rival gang shoots a lawman to free a prisoner, looting that one doesn't give any penalty.
Red Dead Online Beta – Week 1 Update
"we're also awarding everyone that joined in to play the Red Dead Online Beta at any point through midnight PST today with a gift of RDO$250 and 15 Gold Bars. Gifts should start arriving today and will hit all eligible players by Friday, December 14th."
The 250$, what do they mean by through midnight? I'd like free money
As long as you've made a char before midnight, you'll get the 250 and 15 gold bars.
Ah that makes sense, thanks
This sounds like a pretty good update tbh, and wow 15 free gold bars. Maybe now I can finally buy something useful.
brb, making character last minute, then logging out before getting shot in the face or lasso’d
Damn, knew I should have just made a character for online.
The prices are still really expensive compared to how much money you can make.
Apparently they also reduced the selling price of fishes as well.
I havent been playing enough to make one myself but it'd be cool if we could get some precise comparisons of the before/after prices of guns, pelts, fish, and showdown/race/mission payouts
Apparently people have been getting like $50 for winning competitive game modes now.
What about things that aren't boring to do?
They nerfed fishing, or at least the ones that paid out decently by about 40% so they're now $2.50 instead of 4.50
Uh oh, is this for the better or worse though? Saying "balancing" doesn't give me much hope.
Also being unspecific in the select items, though deer don't seen to have been chabged
Yeah skins and shit have been reduce, how the fuck this equate to balance? They reduce the pricing on items and then reduce the sell prices on skins and what not? That's not balancing at all, what the fuck.
I mean the nerf isn't as bad as I was expecting,as it seems only really fishing was nerfed so far, and some larger fish got a price increase, we'll just have to see how far the changes extend tbh
Can I remake my character and keep the money? I rushed that shit and it ended up looking bad.
yeah you keep the money.
Money and gold remain, but all level progress + bought items disappear (weapons etc).
Happy to see that I got just short of $20 for completing a mission, that's a better payout, rather than the fucking $6 or so.
