Concept : TF2 Battle Royale, but there's class limitations (as in, you can't play as X class). They last for a week, then switch with another limit. The limits could draw from moderately sized pool of presets so Valve doesn't have to work very hard. For example-- One week could limit (or completely disallow) the use of snipers. Another week could limit/revoke the ability to choose Scout. One week could force everyone to pick the classes used in the Sixes meta (Scout, Soldier, Demo, Medic), and one could force everyone to be Spy and only Spy (but no cloak, or else games would last a week or more). Not the best of ideas, but I can see it working out pretty good in some cases.
we have fucking mannpower and y'all are crying over a potential tf2 battle royale gamemode
Just tell them to add Arena back, thanks. If they want to add deathmatch to tf2 they need to add that mercenary model turning tf2 into csgo literally.
Nah they'd just have every texture randomly choose a color each frame.
Have you guys seen this post yet? I don't know if this is credible or not, but it's big if true. https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/a3rmjm/1_hour_to_the_valve_visit_and_hopefully_seeing/ From what I've read up in the post & comments, there's the following info: He only met 3 members of the team Everyone on the TF Team is flexible and can do any job for the game Valve isn't hiring for specific positions: anyone can apply They are both actively listening and enjoy receiving feedback They've actively been trying to prevent any leaks (that's why all these past updates have had 0 hints) They're in crunch time for the next update He seems to have been put under NDA by the TF Team Another hidden TF Team member has been spotted by the OP: His name is Joel He left telling the TF Team to buff the Caber and to communicate more Don't know if I missed anything but thats what I got out of it.
If they added battle royale they'd probably have to make just a generic class. Something like 200 hp, demoman or medic move speed, and can use any weapon you find + special items intended for the gamemode. For balance reasons it would be insanely difficult to make a battle royale with 9 different classes.
Isnt that kinda how deathmatch is on TF2C?
Honestly no idea. But if Team fortress has had a gamemode where everyone plays the same class before then i guess they can do it again.
Well if we are on the optimistic side perhaps they are working on something more substantial for Smissmas, which would mean we'd get something in the next... 2-ish weeks. We won't exactly have to wait long to see if there is any meat to this.
The neat thing about TF2 is that every day is a new horizon. Today is the worst state that the game has ever been in. Tomorrow will be worse.
Here's my pitch: TF2 Battle Royale, where the only character you can play as is Spy with the Cloak and Dagger. I think it's got potential, yeah?
Didn't people say the TF2 team was in crunch time months before JI shipped?
well yes, that's why getting hyped over this would be fairly naive; Smissmas is our usual big boy update time, however those update times have been thrown out the window. It wouldnt be insanely unrealistic to get one and who knows what it would contain, but yeah, well see
I'm not a fan of these "battle royale" games. It's just another place for kids to go to swear at each other and call each other faggots and the n word and say they fucked each other's moms. Basically Call of Duty all over again.
Dude, people do that in everything. You think it's exclusive to battle royal?
OK but who's David Riller
I had some free time early this evening, so I attempted to play some Doublecross. Four out of four times, I got connected to European servers with a nice 130 ping. I'm in North America. It's 5PM. On a Friday. First game. Die from random crits by the same soldier twice in a row. I bitch about them in text chat. He says "they wouldn't have made a difference, you were low HP." I counter that I had the Battallion's Backup on and and extra 20HP. He said "You died and would have anyway, don't be such a whining faggot." During my nice 20 second respawn time I suggest that the solider is really confident in his abilities without the aid of random crits. He says "Shut up, [N-word], you're probably French." I ask why people are so toxic on EU servers. Vote menu pops up. %vote_issue% I auto-vote, which leads me to believe it was a kickvote against me. It fails. I'm back alive and calling out in voice that that our intel is on its way out the door for the third cap. In our team chat I see "shut up" followed by an kickvote against me. This one passes. Second game. I connect. My team is down 2-1. There's an argument in voice chat on my team about ...Italians? Apparently they engage in sexual relations with their mothers (though the speaker, who had a very thick accent I could not place, phrased it differently.) I walk out of the lower spawn and ...into a charging demoknight. I hate melee battles with 125+ ping. I respawn as Natascha Heavy. Demoknight never returns, but a scout makes off with our intel. I do enough damage to him that he craters on the lower bridge. I suggest over voice that someone should knock the next flag carrier off the bridge because that resets the intel. Of course that doesn't happen and we lose. End of round vote is for 2Fort. Disconnect. Third game. I connect to DC. Again, EU servers (maybe Stockholm?) My HUD says [UNKNOWN] where it should say Doublecross and doesn't say the server name (valve SRCDs etc). This is another game in-progress. My team is up by one. After a bit I realize this is the same server where I was first kicked, but now I'm on the other team, several games later. There's no voice chat on my team, toxic or otherwise. The slur-throwing solider and his random crits departed before I arrived. Unfortunately, my team wins, which means I hardly to get to play during the round. Map vote comes up and people pick Well. I suppose I can hang out there for the novelty. Fourth game. Well is a weird map. "Midfights" don't really happen at mid. They happen outside one of the team's bases. This time it's my base. There's two demos in our attic, spamming our spawns. I switch to Liberty Launcher solider and begin spamming back. I get accused of wall hacks for my efforts. I kill one of the demos with a random crit (I take no joy in this) and the other returns the favor to me. As I wait to respawn, I see in the kill feed that he's sticky trapping one of our spawns. I point this out in voice chat. I immediately get back (again, in an accent I cannot place, possibly Russian) "What are you, American? Shut the fuck up." I love EU servers. I had to go at 6PM, but right before I did a Nullcore cheater named "510" joined the enemy team and began scrolling text chat. Nullcore's chat spam is a bit more inventive than "Get good, get lmaobox" but no less annoying. Said cheater of course insta-headshots me the moment our main door opens. Our team is begging the other side to kick the cheater. The last thing I see before I say "fuck it" and disconnect is "but we're winning" by someone on the opposing team. TL;DR: You'll be called a homosexual N-word who engages in sexual liaisons with blood relatives in any game mode. Also, as rude as we Americans are and as bad as our reputation is online, we have NOTHING on our European counterparts. Also, Valve is not so secretly making me hate their game. I'm getting strong impulses to cash out all the stupid TF2 shit I have and find a new hobby. Like getting punched in the junk repeatedly.
Why would you bitch about them in text chat? That's like asking somebody to call you the n word. Nobody here likes random crits, but people don't play TF2 to see people complain about random crits in text chat.
So I got an idea from CSGO What if you couldn't get any item drops until you hit a certain level in casual, say level 50, you can still get drops on community servers but only after you hit level 50 What do you think?
Dave Riller's long-lost brother
> Buff the caber Yes fucking please I want my anti-sniper stick back
rushing a cart with 6 people on it as a chargin' caber knight demo from some dark corner and absolutely destroying everyone on it will never be not one of my fondest memories of playing this game
Delfy's attacking Auto-Balance now as well... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIOnbSrZNVY I swear, Valve never going to get a break here... No Auto-Balance = Bad Auto-Balance = Bad Abandonment Penalties ( which at least for me actually helped keep games full from start to finish more often then Auto-balance ever did ) = Bad Watch Valve just take this video and use it to patch the ways of getting around Auto-Balance lol.
I think that abandoment penalties is better in the long term as if someone can play a game that they are losing but still do their best to go on is more prefered to be kept in a team than a guy who leaves the moment things turn sour,i dont think it will get rid of this kind of people completely but it might increase the chance of people staying in a match and actualy try to turn the tables.
Just a tip for everyone here, if you type retry in console during the 5 second warning, you won't get autobalanced. I've seen a lot of people using that trick already, the only downside is that it of course resets everything, which is still unfortunate for Engineers and Medics.
I tried it once and the command only got me out of the server, it didn't automatically rejoin because something about ad-hoc connection not allowed. Also couldn't get back in manually.
The reason why abandonment penalties worked was because it addressed the cause of lopsided matches, which was the people leaving in the first place. Auto-balance only exists to attempt to salvage games after they've become unbalanced and lopsided... Auto-balance is fine in a sense, but being the only thing really trying to address lopsided matches is the main issue with auto-balance. There needs to be something to deter people from leaving in the first place out of matches. Auto-Balance becomes untolerable when it's needed so frequently. I've actually been auto-balanced up to 3 times in a single round. But I see auto-balance kicked in multiple times in rounds on a fairly frequent basis. This is a clear cut sign that it just doesn't cut it, at least by itself.
Unfun and unbalanced matches -> a lot of players disconnects during the match -> frequent autobalance. The core issue is terrible matchmaking, not autobalance.
Not sure what happened here, but I know if you attempt to "retry" more than 4 times you'll get the ad-hoc error and wont be able to rejoin. Essentially meaning you only get 4 retries if the auto-balance refuses to pick someone other than you or someone in your party before you run out of retries. I don't see a problem with this. Some of the points covered in the video are valid and I agree with some of the potential changes that can be made to the auto-balance. The removal of Spectator / Team Switching was detrimental to the experience for players. If I recall correctly there are some community servers with an auto-balance that will favor the most recently connected player instead of the most dedicated and deeply affiliated player. Having the auto-balance pick players that were last to join would solve a lot of the commitment issues right off the bat as this player would least likely feel as though they were cheated of a victory. Auto-balance in general struggles with Casual Matchmaking due to the slower rate at which players are connecting to the server and the higher rate at which people leave. Back when you could connect directly, there was a consistent flow of players and more often than not players would stay in the match for much longer.
That's quite the stretch given quite literally every multiplayer game must have bad matchmaking then.
