So, I bought Quake 4 on Thursday and beat it yesterday on the Normal difficulty. It was a pretty enjoyable experience, bar a few frustrating bits. Maybe the game's a little slower than its predecessors and is considered the series' black sheep from what I've heard, but I found it fun.

Completed Project Warlock and Doom II. Both great games. I was initially not that impressed with Project Warlock, but oh boy did it pick up the pace with each new level, especially with each new episode. Amazing variety, great gameplay. Doom II was more of the same fun to be had with Doom. The new enemies were challenging at first, but everything fell into a rhythm. Blasting Cacodemons into paste with the super shotgun is the most satisfying thing ever.

it feels like a rough doom3 mod. Which it probably is. I couldn't stand how every enemy looks more or less the same and aren't memorable at all. I feel quake2 had this problem too.

For those of you who bought Ion Maiden in Early Access, I have some good news for you: The game was just updated with the playable level shown off at PAX South (on Steam, at least)! Man I really want to buy Ion Maiden right now, but at the same time I want to wait for the full game and play it in one go.

For a game that is so technically impressive the enemy design, especially gameplay wise, seems very uninspired. One of the best things about Build Engine games was that they'd have unique enemy behaviors, but Ion Maiden's just seem to stand there and shoot. However I do remember them falling off ledges a lot in the preview so perhaps they're just unifinished. They look good at least and are visually distinct from each other in gameplay.

The preview campaign is separate, so unlike with Dusk or Amid Evil where there was only an episode missing for the longest time, with Ion Maiden the main campaign is still yet to come. So I think it's worth buying it anyways, just because of how good the preview alone is. I haven't played Amid Evil or Dusk fully yet, but just the style already makes Ion Maiden my favorite of the three. Falling off ledges is normal Build behavior. They added some new ones in the additional level, such as flying robots with homing missiles, and there's more to come.

Oh I actually didn't know that. I thought they released the entire episode 1 as the preview and would be releasing the later episodes as they finished them. If the preview campaign really is separate I might just for it now thanks.
