I always felt like the BFG in quake 2 was a forced nod. This is the game of the railgun, BFG aint got shit on it.
I learned about Line_SetPortal and now I'm ready to make some evil shit https://my.mixtape.moe/rwmftb.mp4
bethesda might as well get the community to help them work out an HD Remaster at this rate with how much of a testbed Quake 2 is for every big new rendering thing.
Is this something they're gonna release?
but what about walking backwards toward the door?
I hope they bring back the chain gunner

Awh, Marathon Cyborg has a friend now. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/247500/1229ca6a-d1c2-4122-bfc5-fef99bf3df4d/image.png
The notion that Plutonia has an inordinate amount of Commandos is severely exaggerated as it only has relatively few more than Evilution, yet Evilution absolutely dwarfs the Commando count in both IWADs with its staggering amount of Sergeants (in which Plutonia has even less than even Doom 2). I'll agree with you with how people exaggerate chaingunner and revenant count in plutonia, but the main reason for that infamousness has to do with the placement of those two monsters (monster closets, ambushes, etc), alongside those pesky archviles. Which not a lot of people point out and hence give it a false sense of "too many chaingunners/revenants". I haven't played TNT in a good while, but I suspect why people don't talk about shotgunners too much has to be because they aren't placed in maps too well to give players a sense of being overwhelmed/ambushed.
I've just started playing SoF1, and while I had to tweak the difficulty settings a bit (as I set the enemy spawn rates too high) and I've only gone through the first two levels, I have to say, this is a pretty good shooter so far. While I'm normally not a fan of hitscan enemies, I think this game is one of those few instances that handles them correctly, as the level design and mechanics allow you to get the drop on enemies before they can get a significant amount of shots into you while still using a rather aggressive play-style most of the time.
If Doomguy/Doom Slayer ends up not being in Smash, I hope he at least gets in the Mortal Kombat game. He'd be fucking perfect for it.
Please don't play on max AI difficulty like I did. The last middle eastern level has SO many fucking LMG and sniper bad guys that I wanted to pour sand down my weenie. The Japan (I think? idr but its asian) levels were also a pain in the fucking ass too, but not as bad. The rest of the shit isnt a problem but when the AI is set to max difficulty its like my nuts just burst with fire and brimstone at times
Probably the standout mechanic that difficulty in SoF affects is the stealth gauge. For some reason, even though you're constantly firing full-auto and blowing people's limbs off and blowing them up, if the game decides you make too much of a racket, it's gonna spawn in a horde of enemies. It really doesn't matter if you just play on normal but on the maximum difficulty, it gets pretty tedious and bad for your health.
Keep Doomslayer silent and just have Vega do the fight banter.

But will they be released on the same day as the Beth launcher?!
I would've gotten DOOM Eternal and RAGE 2 on Beth.net either way but this is great to see. It's nice for people to have the option plus I don't want either game to sell poorly. Pre-purchase Rage 2 on Steam The RAGE 2 store page indicates that the Steam release will happen the same day as other platforms. Presumably DOOM Eternal, Wolf Youngblood, etc will be the same.
Woohoo, they realized that limiting these games to a single platform on PC would damage their sales compared to Epic. Not to bring that drama here or anything.
https://twitter.com/BethesdaSupport/status/1110231652914118663 Bad news for those who wanted physical copies like me. I guess i'll stick to digital unless they'll announce another kickass limited edition like the first one's.

Speaking of RAGE 2, should this be the thread to discuss it going forward? It's not "retro", but it is a Id Software FPS.
I'm torn about this. My first answer would be to have an id Software megathread, but that would also heavily overlap with a number of staple titles that would be a better fit for this thread. On the other hand, it doesn't quite belong here since it is fundamentally different from something like DUSK or DOOM, and I doubt it would really justify its own thread. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm late to the party with Wrath. I just found out about it after browsing 3D Realm's collection on Steam after not having read this thread in over a month, and was wondering if it was mentioned here yet. The armblade was cool, but Civvie was right about a shooter hinging greatly on how well its shotgun feels to use. I am seriously impressed by what I see so far, and look forward to playing it on release.
From gameplay footage it very much looks like a traditional Id Software FPS, with all of the satisfying and meaty gunplay that comes along with those. It's just that it's open world, and even that seems to be divided into smaller camps, dungeons, etc. that act as your straightforward levels, so personally I don't see why you couldn't talk about it here.

retro + id?
retroid sounds like a mediocre metroidvainia-style indie game
Exactly, and good thing too. There's been a complete drought on any real info on this game since E3.
