You know, this whole timeskip shtick with them just going right straight into showing BJ's grown-up daughters fighting in Paris without properly tying up some of the loose ends gets more infuriating the more I think about it. In my head I'm thinking that this turns out to just be some sort of alternate timeline or dream thought up by Blazko in some twist ending, but considering that this is being marketed as the next chapter in the series instead of being a side-story like Old Blood, despite the same budget price, I can't motivate myself to be a bit more optimistic. At least I hope that in either this or Wolf 3 we get a flashback level of the Kreisau Circle storming the Nazi-occupied White House. For some reason I've always kinda seen Keen as a redhead so idk

I have to be honest, I think this looks like complete shit, but that's because I hated Wolfenstein 2's gameplay for being basically TNO+1 with even less balancing of the upper difficulty levels. I loved the BJ wheelchair segment because it felt like a really interesting twist, and I was very hyped to see the power armor change the game significantly... and it didn't. Not in the least. It was just the armor overcharge perk from The Old Blood. What was the point of that? I'm also sort of "eh" on the continued use of the same Nazi aesthetic. Has their tech really stagnated that hard post Deathshead? Their uniforms and weapon design, too? I know Deathshead was the pioneer of their tech but he wasn't the only pioneer. Just under 20 years have passed since TNC and this, so... surely there'd be at least some changes to the Nazi tech and aesthetic? Or even to the world aesthetic as a whole? It's sort of like how the New Colossus was just a bit of an upgrade, but at least in TNC's case it had an excuse -- it was only a year later. Here it's really glaring that the devs don't really have any idea how to push the visual style forward. That part's a nitpick, I suppose, but I won't be picking this up personally. Looks like more of The New Colossus and I didn't like the way that game felt. I suppose if you like TNC it looks like a good coop addon to that, but I honestly fucking hate TNC in hindsight, and having replayed TNO/TOB straight after it. Before the topic is broached (and I honestly am loathe to bring it up anyway) it's nothing to do with the story or political themes of TNC. I could take them or leave them and they make no real impact on me, negatively or positively, I felt like they fit the game even if the tone was inconsistent in some scenes and some characters were crappily written, I just fucking hated the gameplay and especially the balancing of the gameplay.

All I want is Enemy Territory 2 or Return to Castle Wolfenstein Again: I Forgot my Keys, I'm not a big fan of TNO or TNC just being about tapping people in the head and running around without a minigun, flamethrower and rocket launcher in my pocket. Also less story, I really just can't take a story seriously when I've seen the protagonist gun down a Hitler armed with dual miniguns. Also they retconned killing Hitler which is absolute fucking bs and makes the story worthless imo

Hmm while I don't like the reused assets, at the very least there are new and heavily modified weapons and enemies so it balances out I guess. i actually think the game looks fine, a lot of it is overdone and in your face yeah, like the hud, but if they let you turn that stuff off im totally down for the aesthetic otherwise. i also learned that the "sprites" are actually a shader. they demonstrated this on their twitter. they're models but a shader generates the sprites and their rotations at runtime. it'd be really cool if you could turn it off for a lo-fi 3D aesthetic

The pixeled graphic plus the excessive effects make the game looks like a mess, and the HUD looks like something out of 2005 and not in a good way. Gameplay wise it looks fine but all these issues on the art style really hamper my interest on this.

I remember when the dev first showed off that model to sprite shader system on a /vr/ thread years ago I was mind blown I'm still fascinated by it but yeah the over abundance of hud and screenspace effects including the blood and bloom kind of defeat the merits of the clean visuals you get from pixel art. A level editor sounds like a great edition however

comparing that cheap pixel effect to Devil Daggers lovingly recreating the playstation rendering system on PC is like, mindblowing

I mean, it's not actual CP then, so that's a relief. It's still a shitty thing to do though, since drawn stuff ("loli" and all that crap) are illegal in some countries. Anyway, I hope we're getting some more Doom Eternal footage soon, cause i'm way too hyped for this. I'm allowing myself to get hyped since Doom'16 delivered 100% for me. Also Wrath : Aeon of Ruin look really good too, i'm really interested in it too

So... how are the Unreal Tournament sequels?

2k4 has some incredible mods for it, but it is phenomenal even without mods. The enhanced movement for it does a lot for the game.

UT99 and 2k4 are basically the optimal Unreal Tournament games. 2k3 was abandoned once 2k4 showed it up entirely as the better version of the same game, and 3 was pretty lackluster in its attempts to be an Unreal Engine 3 tech demo with the modding scene drying up rather fast for it. Championship 1 on Xbox was just a slimmed down 2k3 port with a rewritten story, and Championship 2 will always be the strange outlier in the franchise as having more of a third-person focus with melee weaponry and combos and shit but flying under the radar for a lot of fans because it never got re-released.

The UT remake has good structure but is pretty much abandoned.

I played a little bit of UT 2004's single-player and I thought it was rather interesting. I don't remember a whole lot but it was about managing your own team or something like that. It was quite fresh since all the other multiplayer-focused arena shooters I can think of only have standard bot matches for their campaigns (that is, if they even have a campaign). The Epic Store combined with the UT4 being put on hold makes me unironically say that Fortnite was a mistake.
