Thank fuck GoW took home the award, amazing game.
It honestly restores a bit of faith in the industry that Rockstar doesn't just instantly win goty just for participating.
Come on, we can get at least one more trailer in right? Metroid or Stranding that's all I'm asking.
Doubtful on DR news with Kojima not being there but if they were holding onto big news at the end to keep people watching it would be Metroid.
Really gotta wonder what's going on with Metroid Prime 4 if they're STILL not ready to show it off, yeesh
Red Dead 2 was robbed.
That's it? No big final trailer or reveal?
prime 4 is illusive as ever, quite concerned tbh
Bit disappointed SE didn't do anything for TGA. KH3 releases next month, might as well get more advertising out to get those pre-order numbers up.
no death stranding
yeah at this point I'm starting to think they've run into some development issues. It is a totally different team trying to tackle a sequel to someone else's game, so I guess it's not that surprising, but jeez
Well, now I know what game to buy on Christmas. Honestly been really itching to try out new GoW
i swear i saw snippets of unseen death stranding footage at the beginning of this

All in all it was probably the best Game Awards they've ever done. No overt commercialization invading everything, lack of any real controversy as well. Geoff ran a tight ship this year and it shows how much influence he still has over it. Still saddened by the lack of Metroid Prime 4 or Death Stranding trailer, but I suppose there is always E3 for those at the very least.
Well, those were some great Game Awards.
I mean it won just about everything else so But really, great as Red Dead 2 is, God of War was really something special. Incredible way to bring back a franchise.
rip borderlands 3
Was ready for RDR2 to take GOTY so next year we could laugh about it when people are shitting on the online component ala GTA:O.
I'm just glad that Red Dead didn't get GOTY, it really swept God of War under the rug for most of the awards just because it's new and has a massive budget.
Hell yes. God of War won, I wouldn't be as excited if they had won best score because as much as RDR2's soundtrack is nice...God of War just conveys so much more. But it won the most important one and Santa Monica needed this. This confirms that Singleplayer focused games are still important and still a source of critical reception and attention. Fuck yes.
Well this was full of pleasant surprises
What a fucking joke, yeah sure. That totally didn't have anything to do with this event being mainly sponsored by Sony. God of War winning over RDR is such a fucking copout honestly. All the sidemission content is just more of the same, while every sidemission feels handcrafted in RDR. It's a bunch of copypasted boss fights in different colours for crying out loud, and i'm saying that as someone who really liked that game.
Agreed that the repeated use of that same fucking troll fight was lame, but the music, writing, world building, visuals/art direction, characters and overall narrative in God of War was phenomenal. I can say the same for Red Dead 2, honestly. Both games deserved to win, but I'm happier that God of War did. That one has really stuck with me this year.
The side mission content in RDR2 basically robes you of most of the agency that a player could express and forces you down a linear path ala the Bounties especially. They're completely at odds with the free-form choice nature of the main plot and additionally a lot of the 'organic' moments will actually keep happening until you initiate the encounter and only then do you get to 'organically' walk away. Not defending God of War's fillers for sidemissions, but handcrafted is the right word to both the side missions in RDR2's structure, and their detriment.
Good job Geoff. Sure the big announcements like Obsidians, which they were teasing, and MK, which was leaked, we're already known but there was little to no advertising, stuff like Marvel UA3 was a surprise and all the music performances were all gaming related. Hopefully this is a sign for the future
I still need to borrow my brother's copy of God of War sometime, but i'm glad RDR2 didn't sweep all the categories. That was actually really fucking annoying.
The new far cry looks gross. And boring.
I mean I wanted Red Dead 2 to win because I love it; but considering I expected it to win I guess it's good that they gave it to the game they felt most deserved to win and not just out of obligation.
I'd highly recommend playing the first 3 as well if you haven't, it makes the new one's journey that much more powerful though they did a fantastic job for people who didn't play the original trilogy.
