Everything in God of War gameplay wise besides the main story can be summed up as.
A. Meet a very static ghost who says "hey i can't fucking sleep before you kill atleast 10 of the same orange ghoulies."
B. Enter a new location only to meet more orange ghoulies with no cutscenes or character interactions beyond small talk, oh yeah and the 505th room with a Frost Axe puzzle.
C. Have another dance with the Treetrunk ogre and all his nasty palette swapped cousins.
D. Fight the Rock Elemental and all his nasty palette swapped cousins.
E. Valkyrie fights are really dangerous and watch out for all her other palette swaps, be sure to collect them all.
F. Hey, how'd you like to increase your max game time with this mist labyrinth and this challenge tower mountain.
They're actually kinda the same thing, but we know you love stomping the orange ghoulies.
Atleast when you visit stuff in RDR you actually feel like you're on a new adventure within the bounds of the gameplay. You quickly know what to expect with God of War.
geeze, could you be any more whiny
ITT @TotallyTasteless being salty RDR didn't win GOTY for the VGA after it won 4 fucking categories and overshadowed almost every other game this year.
Stay tuned for more excellent whining!
As I said in a previous post elsewhere, I strongly disagreed about the new God of War being considered the game of the year and yes, you totally heard this one before, but Red Dead Redemption II was and still remains the best contender bar none.
Regarding the announcements proper, there was far too much stuff which basically made me moist, with Outer Worlds (a 3D roleplaying videogame by Obsidian at last), Psychonauts 2 and (to a lesser extent) Atlas being my favorites
I'm happy for Geoff, I think he's really getting the show to where he wants it to be.
I mean I don't care much for what gets what awards, but this did feel like a genuine celebration of games and not some super gross commercialized farce.
I still feel that the Game Awards are too much of a marketing move for everyone involved. When compared to the Academy Awards anyway, which seem much more dignified. The Game Awards are basically: "to get sponsors and keep an audience, we need to put trailers and announcements all the time" which is great but is still just a bunch of marketing moves one after another.
I still enjoy the Game Awards for what they are, but to an outsider, they'll still look terribly... business-like. As evidenced by the few celebrities who are invited to say a few lines and look incredibly bored (or drunk) for the whole minute they're on camera.
no
the graphics and color scheme are an eyesore. And this is coming from someone who thought 5 looked great.
wrap it up
wrap it up
Even Ubisoft doesn't know what Far Cry is supposed to be anymore.
The Saints Row effect
Yeah man, I can't wait to give two strangers a ride home. So engaging. Or the bounties happening the same way over and over again because I have to watch Rockstar stroke itself.
Ilove RDR2 so this is sarcasm.
I like the fact that Psychonauts 2 is actually Psychonauts and not the retarded dumb shit like Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Just my perspective I haven't played either of those games.
Crash Team Racing was actually really goddamn good.
RDR2 released like 2 months ago why people think its fair for it to get goty anyway
Maybe i'm an idiot, but why not? Why does the date matter when the game truly is one of the best of the year?
'Cause it's a 2018 release?
Every awards show seems to do it for every medium. People always seem to forget shit that came out at the beginning of the year.
because its new and fresh in peoples minds therefore it'll always seem like "the best" to a lot of people. then when the game has had time to sit in peoples minds its still good but not as good as they once saw it. we are all victims of this mindset, its just natural to be excited about a new game you like. and thats why its bad to put brand new games up and compare them to titles that released several months ago. its not an even playing ground. ever.
There's a podcast I used to listen to where they would update their favourite games every year with the rule that you can't include any games released in the last 2 years because you're still in the honeymoon period and can't judge the game fairly.
Do you think games that released here in late 2018 should be nominated for GOTY 2019 next year?
I think the Game Awards (and any end of year awards show) should have a cut off point at the end of September. If your game (or whatever) comes out after the end of September it qualifies for next year.
I would also make it a requirement that all tthe final judges must play every game in the final vote before voting. They don't necessarily need to finish the game (especially if they've played it before), but they should all be fresh in their minds when they vote.
That's honestly a fair way, but that'd make the VGAs obsolete because nobody's gonna watch a "best games of 2018" award show when it's 2020.
It is pretty derivative (correct me if I wrong but I think every single item has a Mario Kart equivalent) but it refines the gameplay a lot and adds some new touches. Think of it as the racing game answer to what Banjo-Kazooie was to Super Mario 64.
CTR invented the slide to build boost mechanic that Mario Kart stole. Though it's a good thing that Mario Kart took that mechanic, both games are more fun with it.
But Mario Kart 64 had drift boost, and that came out before CTR.
