Chances are they won't unlock. The second two base campaigns and The Last Tiger glitch out and won't update the progression servers with your progress. There is a workaround but the fact that it's still broken literally months after release is inexcusable. I agree with everything else in your post; assignments are beyond awful and push people to play in stupid ways to get weapon skins and plane progression is beyond frustrating. I don't think there is anything wrong with you. It's the same frustration I had as someone who has played every Battlefield since 1942 (staying up late to download the pre-release multiplayer demo, no less). Battlefield 4 had an equally unfinished release but it atleast had enough carrots to keep you playing.
It's telling that past the 300 hours mark in BF4 I was able to use a glitch to basically unlock everything for every gun (and I had everything for every vehicles unlocked) and at that point the next 300 hours were some of the most fun I've had in a Battlefield game to date.
imo assignments, if we must have them, should just be things that you get normall while playing. So if this latest ToW release gives us a new medic SMG it should be unlocked by doing 500 points of healing, or doing 300 SMG damage, maybe even a combination of the two. Basically, play medic for a game to get a medic gun. This "Get 20 kills in one life while defending a point", "Get 10 kills in one life while prone", "Get 4 headshots in one life" stuff is garbage and pigeonholes people into playing very specific playstyles that not even every map or mode supports. It's taking some of the most obnoxious assignments from BF4 and BF1 and spreading them out to every gun.
BF4 had the virtue of there being enough bloat for keeping everybody occupied while DICE tried to fix the potato technical clusterfuck of getting the game to work on 5 different platforms. It was a complete game hindered by purely technical problems. BFV however very blatantly needs a whole year in the oven given the necessity of dripfeeding, very spaghetti balance and design decisions and just general amount of missing features and bugginess. Now this is par for the course of mdoern BF games, but top that off with them having to cut probably a lot of cosmetic content due to backlash, the actual trailer backlash, PR suicide of being remotely connected to current ass modern political bullshitcockery and general outrage culture completely drowning out any instance of actual positivity of this game with negativity and you get a game that feels not that fun to play just from the mood its surrounded by. I still love the core of the game and play it, but I won't lie when I roll my eyes whenever I see a blatant bug or get miffed thinking about how limited current content is rn that could've been easily avoided by another year of development.
I just shoot things that come in front of me and have fun with that and if the game wants me to do something fancy then I'm too lazy to bother activating an assignment cause I just wanna play the game cause I find it really good. I just ignore all the drama or other bs and just try to appreciate that the game is really well done underneath all the horseshit surrounding it
I'm kinda at the same point where I'm waiting for the next patch. I love the core game play but I just want the game to get more polish. I don't even care about progression systems of any of that, I've been using nothing but the kar98k and the no.4, but the lack of character cosmetics and the lack of proper stuff for the brits is really what annoys me. BF1's character models looked like they had a lot of thought and research put into them, especially with all the experimental helmets and face masks they had. The brits in BFV don't even look like British soldiers, and it robs the game of a distinct WW2 feel. It's like the character designers just said "ehh, throw a brodie helmet on them, that's British right?" and even then only they aren't using the chinstrap which was standard procedure in ww2
It sucks that they burned that critical time between release and holiday leave on changing the one thing everyone liked about the game. If I had a nickel for every time I've read "I like the core gameplay just a shame about everything else" I'd be able to buy Post Scriptum.
i'm consistently topping scoreboard on all gamemodes as medic with a pretty good k/d ratio, so idk what to think if medic gets buffs. the sten is a monster, and suomi/thompson sweep close range, especially when you get the extended mag for both.
I'm baffled by just how many steps backwards BFV takes compared to previous titles. They removed the ability to configure tanker/pilot loadouts, removed team balancing, managed to glitch up mantling despite that being a feature in several previous games, and have probably the worst maps in Battlefield history.
Yeah no this doesn't slide so long as BF1's launch maps are still a thing in this reality.
I'd take Ballroom, Amiens, or St. Quentin over most of BFV's maps, and I'd take anything except maybe Suez over Hamada.
Convenient of you to list down for me the only bearable maps in BF1's launch pool. At least in the context of Conquest, BFV has much superior maps where even the obligatory sniper gallery map (Hamada) is bearable thanks to the lack of flat terrain that makes avoiding snipers relatively easy in the first place. Hell, even Fjell flows much better than Amiens despite both being meat grinders and sharing the spot in both games as the map with the shittiest visibility.
team balancing in a switching sense is still there. I had that match earlier where the game decided to move players because the enemy team didnt capture a single point in the grand OP. Source: me being german and getting switched to allies over a day in the op and losing immediately after being top scoreboard.
Also gonna have to disagree with this one and say BF1 probably had the worst maps. It's probably the only Battlefield game where I straight up didn't like half the maps at release, especially if you include Giants Shadow which is probably the worst free thing DICE has ever given me. Amien, Ballroom, and St. Quentin were great maps and Argonne was okay depending on the server but the italian maps and desert maps were just slogs to play imo. Sinai is up there for one of my least favorite maps in BF history. I'd say even BF4 had worse maps than BFV, if not by design then just by how many vehicles they shoved into such small play spaces. I felt like I was fighting vehicles as much as I was fighting infantry. Yeah those three maps were the only ones people liked (except argonne weirdos) and Ballroom was questionable. I would rather play Hamada then Suez or Sinai. Yeah I've been balanced to the losing team which totally killed grand ops for me. I've seen other people balanced as well but its pretty rare, and doesn't seem to happen when it really ought to. At the very least it's not as consistent as BF1 or BF4 was, but then BF4 had plugin support.
Like, they're going to have to add like four Medic weapons soon, I don't understand how we got FIVE new weapons and none of them were for the medic. Like I genuinely stand by my statement that they just don't... know what they shipped. I wouldn't be surprised if one part of the team thinks that the carbines in the files are already in the game, or something along those lines.
I really believe that the game was just not ready for release but had to be pushed out because of EA's deadline. So much stuff feels unfinished or incomplete and the amount or stuff that should have been main game features that are coming so far after release it's nuts. I rarely agree when someone says "This game is lacking content!" but I think this might be one of the rare instances where I actually feel that way. I just really hope that after this fumbled launch, EA realizes that DICE needs more time for these games and pushes back the Battlefield release schedule by another year or two. If not, BFV might only just be shaping up by time the next mainline BF game comes out.
I think BF5 was rushed because EA just needed a new game to fit in with the latest I guess paradigm shifts for lack of a better word. Battle Royale is in and Battlefield 1 was by this point not as hip and happenin' as it was to be retrofitted for Battle Royale. Paid maps are out, almost nobody wants that shit anymore, but BF1 needs to have them because people already paid for Premium which promised maps. If you look at Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1, 4 had nearly 2 years of slow or no development at all. The last DLC for 4 came out in late 2014, and after that it was a handful of free maps and guns added to the game over the next year, and then silence until Battlefield 1's reveal. There was a solid 3 year gap between the games and almost 2 years of a lull in BF4 development. Look at BF1 and 5 now: BF1 had only 1 free map and a Suez rework, both of which still sucked, and the last expansion for BF1 came out in late February of the very same year BF5 came out. I also heard the expansions for BF1 kinda sucked so they probably had like 1 guy working on them. EA Man probably just walked into the DICE office, and was like "WE'RE OUTCASTS IN SOCIETY, WE NEED A NEW GAME AND IT NEEDS BATTLE ROYALE AND FREE MAPS, H U R R Y" and then like armed a fucking bomb under the office with a 3 day timer on it.
Rotterdam is leagues above Amiens wtf you even on.
I am super annoyed how super weak shotguns are atm where only the Drilling is half-useful thanks to its large pellet count. BFV's shotgun balance and weakness only makes sense in BF1's slow TTK while BF1's strong as shit shotguns makes more sense in BFV's faster TTK. The shotguns in this game are so piss weak that I find more success with 1200RPM MG42 in CQC than with the M1897, its that fucking whack.
So, which is the better ammo upgrade for the Churchill gun carrier? Squash Head or AP?
AA is so damn annoying. Things like the Flakpanzer have way too long of a range and deal way too much damage and give you no time to react.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, if the AA in the game had a timed-fuse mechanic the driver had to manually adjust but having it hit like a truck it would increase the skill floor and skill ceiling for it. Win-win.
I despise BF4s progression system because I only started playing it like a year ago with my friend who's been playing since release, and I have to not just unlock everything by using the classes and weapons but atleast half of the attachments to all the guns are given to me in lootboxes in such a way that I have no control over it. I really like the game, but I just wish that after 3 iterations of the series, they'd atleast get rid of a system that requires so much grinding, the game will probably be dead by the time I've unlocked most of the attachments.
To be fair, most of the attachments are duplicates stat-wise. You can unlock all unique stat-affecting attachments by pure kills. Still, it was not an ideal system.
Also once you unlock the full set of attachments then you start getting battlepacks from kills with that weapon that contain only the duplicate attachments, so keep using them and you'll fill them out.
I had never been able to try Panzerstorm until last night, when I decided to play more than a couple of rounds in a row. Instantly in the beginning of the round I got what I call the definitive Battlefield experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dREEnP6OEOk After that the game decided to freeze twice, the second time forced me to hard reset the computer.
Our first soldier has fallen
First blood to them
in case anybody isn't already running this recon selb 1906 with 2x scope walther p38 grenade flare gun spawn beacon lets you be super aggressive at all ranges with a gun that kills in 2 shots unless you're trying to fire 400m.
