Super Smash Bros. General v21: A River in a Dry Land

Removing Marth is like removing Mario. Ya just don't do it.
Like that suggestion is just making it Awakening only which is pretty garbo. People are just tired of Marth clones and only swordies getting in. There's not a hard science to it.
Simon is the only axe-wielding FE character I need.
I honestly don't understand the issue people are having with FE clones. FE Awakening is inarguably the besting selling FE game in recent years, surpassing even both Ike's game combined from the data I am seeing. It's understandable to have some representation from this game, and from the original Smash 4 release, theres only 2 characters from that game, of which one is a clone with pretty much no effort needed. Why is it a problem again?
If people are complaining about overrepresentative for a series, it's probably Ike and Roy that should've been cut. Marth can probably stay only because he's the first one, but then Lucina still imo have more reason to be in the game than him.
Awakening might be the best-selling FE game, but 3 characters from a single game is rather overkill.
Ike is ridiculously popular, not to mention he offers something different compared to the buttload of Marth clones, as do Robin and Corrin.
And you don't cut who many regard as the de facto mascot of Fire Emblem. Marth stays.
As far as Roy goes, he's cool and all, but there can be better GBA era representatives.
The only necessary FE characters are Marth, Ike, and Robin, and that's coming from someone who finds Corrin kinda fun.
The original release Smash 4 have 4 FE characters, Marth, Lucina, Ike and Robin. Lucina is a clone so that's 2 characters to represent a highly popular series at the time with 1 unique moveset. There's definitely no problem with this lineup imo. Corrin is a promotion character that also have a somewhat unique moveset. That leave Roy as the only redundact one and that's a DLC. There isn't much of a overreprsentation imo, and these character are just reasonable choices.
Ultimate brings everyone back so I wouldn't say that's overrepresentative? Chrom is a popular pick among fans and also a clone so that doesn't really take much effort either.
I get it. FE is now a Nintendo staple reaching the likes of Mario and Pokemon. But doesn't that mean it should also get the love and attention that Mario and Pokemon get in terms of movesets? Mario doesn't have 5 Marios. Pokemon doesn't have 5 Pikachus.
The point I am making is that FE doesn't have 5 Marths either. Roy/Chrom is as much as a Marth clone as Falco is a Fox clone, and Smash 4 only has 1 Marth clone so why is it a representation problem again.
Like, imagine if the Pokemon line up consisted of
Pikachu
Pichu
Raichu
Plusle
Minum
Pachirisu
Emolga
and Dedenne
People would be pissed. Fire Emblem shouldn't get a pass on this.
Oh I know. I use the Big Mac with Cheese combo for whenever I'm sick of trying to fight a spirit "correctly".
There's just something so satisfying about trying to build similar stuff with your favorites, is all. I have a Kicks Up x4 Yoshi that can do 100%+ with his Dair
Here's a question. What's the most garbage ass stage in the game that you think has a great concept- just executed poorly?
My gut reaction vote is Mario Bros. I love the idea of making the arcade game it's own stage and the enemies being projectiles if you bonk them is a cute idea- heck the scrolling walk off is a fun idea too for casual goofy shit. But the platforms utterly ruin it. Hits don't feel satisfying because if you tech in even the slightest direction nobody dies and confrontations just kinda suck ass.
It's a fun idea but I've never met anyone that had fun on that stage.
Chrom's really the only one that makes me roll my eyes at all in this point. For me, it's just like... if we were gonna get another FE semi-clone newcomer, why did it have to be a character from a game that already had multiple reps? Awakening characters make up almost half the Fire Emblem characters in the game now. Plus, Awakening already has a reputation among fans of being over-represented in crossover material compared to other games in the series (Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Fire Emblem Warriors come to mind).
I do wanna say while I can only speak for myself I don't think anyone is that upset over it at the end of the day. It would have been nice to see a weirder pick for FE that catered more towards older fans but Ultimate is so good I really can't complain much either way. At least Chrom is fun.
Imagine how pissed people would be if we just got Link 3 times.
Oh wait.
Now that I've played a lot of Smash, I don't think I've actually seen or messed with Stage Morph ONCE, surprisingly enough.
But FE characters have distinct movesets? For Smash 4, Marth(Lucina), Ike, and Robin is 3 different movesets out of 4 characters. Roy is a semi-clone i.e. Mario/Dr.Mario and Corrin is unique. Ultimate only have more complicates this due to bringing back all the
characters, and Chrom is a semi-clone of Roy. There's still variety within their movesets.
Thanks, so far i had best performance with him.
tbh Chrom's model is already in game and his move all borrows from other characters, he is a no-brainer to add
They buried it in a toggle switch inside of the specific gamemode that you're trying to play and it's off by default. I set it up so a few minutes into a ffa match it'll turn into a battlefield map for parties.
Mario Bros. should wrap around and only kill you if you are above 100% when you do so.
Real answer is probably the Paper Mario transforming stage, because it's only ruined by a blatant disregard of the limitations of the game's melee-era ground collision system in the Bowser section.
Mario Bros. actually DOES wrap around now! It still has the garbage camping-the-scrollover cheese that Balloon Fight 3DS has but it's a lot of fun otherwise. My suggestion would be to have the crabs act as 'dangerzones' (they kill players over 100% damage) and only let side-scrolls kill people if launched from a certain distance away. from the blast zone.
Sorry, I edited my post as you replied to clarify that I meant while in knockback at or over 100%.
Remember that Lucina (along with Dark Pit and Dr. Mario) where planned on being skins, but were ultimately changed to their own characters because they felt that it would be more interesting than them just being skins. Lucina and DP because they're different characters and Dr. Mario cause he was originally his own character. (Also probably why Construction and Wedding Mario aren't their own characters and stayed skins.)
If Chrom wasn't an echo fighter the same people would be going "why didn't they add chrom as an echo fighter they have his model it'd have been really easy".
You wanna know what would of been easy.
A Digby alt. I'm utterly shocked that didn't happen.
This is a crime
Don't think Digby would make a good alt since Isabelle has a couple of animations that wouldn't fit him since he also has different personality from her. It's kind of the reason why characters like Lucina and Dark Pit were made into characters instead of alts in the first place.
Well I mean Alph has a pretty different personality than Olimar but it doesn't stop him from rolling around on the ground like a weirdo
Nikkei: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sold 5 million copies worldwide during its first week
To give some perspective, Smash 64 sold about that many copies from its release (which it will be 20 come next month) to 2001.
That seems like good enough pacing for it to pass Melee lifetime sales in the future. Should be interesting to see if it can top the monster that was Brawl, however.
