I think the only two things that really interested me Mario Maker 2 and that new Platinum game.
Oh and I guess Oninaki.

Hmm, wonder if this is the inspiration.
because of 100 anime games and nothing else?
show me the plumber. i lust for the plumber
I'm really excited for Super Mario Maker 2 and the Smash 3.0 update. Need to see more about Fire Emblem and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and I'm excited to try the Daemon X Machina demo.
They could have just reused the Link Between Worlds aesthetic, wonder why they didn't tbh.
I'm most surprised about Rune Factory 5 because I thought the team went under or something.
Honestly get the feeling that it's part of the "thing". Like, it's very clay/toy like, could be trying for a sort of "Link's being trapped in the dream simplified the art style" kind of shtick.
Odd thing to end on. Over all, a decent Direct if fairly low-key. No real "bombshells" besides Super Mario Maker 2 right at the start (and we all knew it was coming); it seems like they were setting up Link's Awakening to be the final bombshell bit it really only got an "oh, that's... weird?" from me.
Lots of JRPG talk, what with all the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy stuff (I still wonder why we're not getting FF8). I could've sworn Astral Chain was going to be Xenoblade X2; the aesthetic and city sections seemed like they were setting up such a reveal and I almost expected it to be a "New Los Angeles several decades later" thing or something. Then again, I thought the initial Daemon X Machina reveal was gonna be Xenoblade X2 as well, so I'm 0-for-2 now.
Three Houses looks pretty interesting, I've gotta admit. I thought we'd be doing the whole Hoshido vs. Nohr thing again in regards to the three factions "but this time there's a THIRD ONE!!11!!" so I was pleasantly surprised to see they're all at relative peace when we drop in and the starting plot is just "you're a new teacher as the inter-kingdom school". Pretty neat premise for a Fire Emblem game. We're doing the customizable avatar thing again, of course.
I dunno, not much to say other than that. I could've sworn we'd be seeing a SM3DW port from its inclusion as a theme in SMM2. No Wii U ports at all, actually, which I'm actually very surprised about. A lot of third-party stuff I just minimized and worked on other stuff while listening to, and much of the first-party stuff was more of a "hey, neat" than any megaton.
Ah well, they can't all be blowouts.
Ignoring my hatred of SD art styles in 3D, the problem here is that it doesn't go far enough. Nobody looks like toys or clay, they just look like plastic like it's an upscaled 3DS game which it very may well be.
I have a theory.
The artstyle in drawings usually match the aesthetic of the game.
What if the LBW artstyle anime intro is what the real world looks like, and the claymation style is the dream world?
tetris battle royale
daemon x machina
astral chain
link's remakening
tetris battle royale
i'm satisfied with this direct.
There's even kirby in the original game
Links Awakening had a super SD style in the game. It's literally true to it's source and it's fine lmao.
I can't believe we're in TYOL 2019 and reliving Celda all over again
I don't think it's bad, and it's fitting for what the original game tried, but it is pretty jarring to go from such a detailed anime art style for the opening only to end up with.. well, that. Even if technically the original game did the same thing, but back then no one actually paid that much mind because hell, it was a Game Boy game. Now it looks like Nintendo took that idea of the art shift literally.
It does look a little cheap but I'm excited to play it either way. Plus maybe they haven't applied the final touches
looks pretty faithful to the original while giving the game a new stroke of paint, honestly. it's cute
I think that's the single worst Direct I've sat though. There's literally only 1 game I want to own, it was announced first, and it's practically a port.
Hopefully we get another one soon.
"It's just a port"
I can't believe the concept of sequels still eludes people g'damn
Super Mario Maker was my most-played game on the Wii U, so you can imagine how I felt about that direct when my favorite elements of SMW modding are using block trains and screen-scrolling pipes.
I'd like to see Super Mario All Star/Mario Advance tile set options for Mario 1 and 3 themes.
So that Star Fox Grand Prix thing might just the Star Atlas update cause I saw some racing at the end. Cool, hopefully it's lengthy and having all the star fox team member playable is nice.
I was expecting 3D World, but not as a skin for Super Mario Maker 2. I'm just glad they finally adding slopes and water, and hell even the snake blocks too. So excited for this game!
Link's Awakening remake...it seems it was a 3DS game but got moved to the Switch. The hand-drawing animation is amazing but that adorable animation got me off-guard. It's fine and it seems to be a 1:1 recreation. Hopefully they add new stuff to it.
New Platinum game huh? Look interesting being a post apocalyptic police force.
Daemon X Machina demo? Sure!
Joker Smash teaser... before the end of April. Well it seems they take 3-4 months this time.
More Treasure Tracker? Come on where's 3D World Deluxe?!
It was in the original game. The side-scrolling segments has Mario enemy, and hell even Kirby is in it because the game is a dream and Kirby is from Dream Land... clever.
Oh, you might be right! The style is very similar to this aside from the eyes.
Mario Marker isn't a game that gets sequels. You add a few features to it and people make new levels with them. You could patch what they've shown in to the first game and have two identical games. It's a port.
Yeah it's obvious that they are being faithful.

Sure it's not puppets or chibi, but the general artstyle of being kiddish with the claymation is in line.
I am honestly positive that my theory, that the Claymation style is Dreamworld and the LBW anime is the Real world, is correct.
I assume the Nightmares will be jarring in the claymation, being more spooky than the kiddy tone.
A Super Mario Land 2 tileset would make me so happy.
The new at least artstyle reminds me of Earthbound's clay models. The old one has the same generic, serviceable look of any other Gameboy game.
YAS
It is a game that gets sequels because it adds a metric fuck ton of new shit people have been begging for in a sequel including new programmable mechanics, a whole new art style that lets you use 3D World mechanics and playable Luigi + a shit ton more.
If it was just slopes I'd be with you in saying it's a port but to look at the absolute mountain thats getting added calling it anything less than "2" and a sequel is being petty for the sake of it.
