It's a clay look, not plastic.
Also it looks literally thousands of times better than Let's Go which is just a bunch of upscaled 3DS models with *slightly* better textures. The remake has a very clear art style it's going for and you can tell the people who modeled everything and gave the world it's textures cared.
You can not like it but lets be fair here.
I know it wasn’t out of laziness. It was purposeful, just the clay/toy look looks very boring to me. It doesn’t look much better than Let’s go. I just don’t think it looks good when everything has the same sort of material read over everything.
Theres loads of weird Nintendo styles I think look amazing. I think Yoshi looks fantastic, and that’s going for a non traditional look. It just has that variety of material and shape design that keeps it aesthetically interesting.
That's fair. I'm a sucker for the asthetic and stuff like the Goomba 2D section look absolutely gorgeous in how it's modeled which is something I can't say about Let's Go muddy textures and jagged surfaces.
I'm honestly eager to see more of the setting with this look because its open to a lot of creativity as I think the clay/arts style really lends itself to the dreamy and surreal vibe of the original game.
im not a fan of the toy town effect but everything else is really cute
Daemon X Machina is honestly kinda rough right now, but I'm hopeful for it.
Combat seems kinda slow, but that could just be because the demo only has starter parts and gear. Endgame stuff could probably turn you into a fucking speed demon for all we know. It also doesn't have as much impact as I would've liked. Feels a bit sterile.
Performance is just abysmal. I think the framerate tanked to at least below 15 FPS for me at one point when it was getting really busy. I'd say that's priority number 1 on improvements for the game. The rest I can tolerate, but that framerate I cannot.
Other than that, I like the visuals, the story seems like it's gonna be corny as fuck, and the music has that typical "anime metal" hype to it that I love. Someone needs to rip the music from the demo already.
Hope they get all sorts of valuable information from the surveys they send out, and the game ends up good. I could see myself having a lot of fun with this if they don't fuck it up.
God, I really hate the artstyle they're going for with Three Houses.
I agree, characters look painfully generic to the point where I was wondering if they were just autogenerated to allow for "infinite" units. Not only that, but the main character from one of the houses looks painfully generic AND he seems to be completely unable to grasp the concept of sleeves.
Like, seriously. What the fuck is this?

Let's ignore for a second that they gave her a hat that looks ridiculously out of place, it doesn't even look like it matches the artwork it's on. It looks photoshopped or something.
It's very telling that the character designer's main claim to fame is UtaPrince.
And that's not going into how awful the animations, models, UI, and general graphical fidelity are. I love this series and this direct has killed any hype that was still remaining from the last trailer.
they look like fire emblem characters
I'm liking Daemon X Machina quite nicely.
Tho, some optimization would be nice. Had some FPS loss here and there. Also, gyro aiming needs to be a thing on this game. Boosting and aiming is not possible, at least on the default control settings.
Otherwise, I like it. 4th mission was a bit of a pain at first but then, I managed to beat it super easy.
Not a huge fan of the on-foot stuff. Maybe it will be more useful in the full game cause its sooo slow to go in and out of the mech. I do like the specialization skill tree.
Neat robo game. Might buy it. Looks really cool too.
Characters are fine. They bring a bit of quirkiness which I'm fine in a game that may end up pretty dark at some point.
The new Yoshi game seems to be good, the physics feel more Yoshi Island floaty rather than Wooly World floaty
Honestly, in my opinion they don't. But "looking like a fire emblem character" doesn't really mean anything anymore. Not since Fates or arguably Awakening.
I'm not much of a Fire Emblem player who only really has hands-on experience with the GBA games, but I always really enjoyed the pre-Awakening aesthetic of Fire Emblem. The actual individual art styles varied by game but there was a certain design philosophy that persisted across the games. The way they treated colours, how armour would look, the clothes people would wear. In some of the games this resulted in some sameyness but it was a sameyness I enjoyed. Awakening keeps a little of this but dilutes it heavily and Fates throws it out the window altogether. Then you hit Echoes and the art style is very modern but a lot of the cast are super colourful thanks to their 80s origins and contrast heavily with a cast like Fates.
This consistency makes an easy punching bag when they join crossover events like Smash Bros where the diversity is boiled down to "guy with blue hair who deliberately keeps a similar aesthetic as the other blue haired guys" when the meat of the character diversity is in the individual units, but in its own series it's fine.
For me, Three Houses doesn't make me go "yeah those are fire emblem characters". Those guys could be from anything, for better or worse. Giving the player character blue hair doesn't change that. People go "this looks like a fire emblem character" because they're an anime guy with a sword, not because there's any real design consistency anymore. Take away the Three Houses Lords and their brightly coloured capes and they don't really have anything that screams "fire emblem" about them because now Fire Emblem is about the individual artist's style. There's wrong with a series that reinvents its image every game, I just happened to like the old image.
I don't really like Three Houses's designs in general. Personally I wouldn't pick the character designer for a male idol show called UtaPrince to do medieval fantasy but here we are.
i mean, it looks very similar to the awakening and fates artwork.

Quite frankly, I disagree with that sentiment. It's hard to put into words, but the best example has to be the eyes, and the feeling that everyone has the exact same face more than ever. This isn't so bad for the models, and honestly the 3D animations for the previous games even on the Gamecube/Wii weren't that great, but when you get the portraits it's unnervingly awkward. The new artist gave pretty much everyone but select characters huge eyes despite the attempt at realistic proportions for their faces, and there's just something "off" about them. It's almost like the artist drew over 3D models compared to the previous games, this is especially apparent with Dimitri's design, and it makes them look very weird coming off of Echoes which flaunted its gorgeous artwork and painterly style well.
Oh shit it's not a DLC it's a BRAND NEW HOLLOW KNIGHT

Oh god damn it I liked that shield. I don't care if LBW Link had it and that's the Link they're basing remake Link off of, the Hylian shield has been used so many times without a facelift already.

only fire emblem fates hate fire emblem more than smash players
three houses looks good imo, so far no large red flags
hype
Another thing that was discussed probably somewhere on the internet, but not mentioned here, is the addition of costumes to Mario Maker 2. I imagine all the new amiibo that came out after that didn't come in the update, plus the ones that will be out when June rolls around, will be added to the costume amiibo. I imagine people will want to make MGS and Castlevania inspired levels.
I think I know why Three Houses characters look kinda strange to people (myself included): they look like they belong to a Persona game rather than a Fire Emblem game. Even the artstyle looks like it's heavily inspired by Persona 4. It'll probably grow on people, tho I'll miss the over the top designs
I forgot that you can customize your character in Daemon x Machina
