Super Smash Bros. General v22: Colors Weave into a Spire of Flame

Reaaaally starting to feel the effects of that increased hitstun when it comes to multi-enemy Spirit battles.
Or as I like to call them, "Oh, did you want to play the game? Sorry, you're in a state of constant paralysis as you get pummeled back and forth between two enemies and an Assist Trophy. Hope you like Cruel Smash, because constantly having to recover to the stage is the only time your inputs are going to actually work!"
Someone send me back in time so I can throttle the SF2 devs before they unleash this upon the world.
Regigigas is my best friend in those.
Hit me all you want, damage counts for jack shit when I'm unflinchable and unlaunchable.
End of Evangelion.mp4
Speaking of spirits, anyone got any tips for the Dr. Wily one? The mega men keep pummeling me to nothing before I can get through all the waves of them.
I wonder if the DLC characters will get Palutena's Guidances or if they'll just be left with generic "oops idk" like in Smash 4
If I remember right, I used the Great Fairy support and really cheesed it. Play evasivly and defensively. Get the Mega Men out of the way as fast as you can and don't get surrounded or you'll be drained.
The gradual damage to enemies item helps a lot too. If you grt in trouble back off and let that do rhe work for you.
Getting Viridi is the only way to do it, I think she's the only Metal Killer Support Spirit.
Just use ness or lucas down special to heal up using all their projectiles.
The fight is hilariously easy if you do this cause they do nothing but spam projectiles. They don't even try to circumvent your Down B.
I tried to fight the Golden Mushroom with Ganondorf last night.
That was quite possibly the second worst experience I've ever had in Smash Bros., right after completing Wii U's Classic Mode on 9.0 without losing a life.
Kicked it to the curb on the second attempt, thankfully.
i some how spiked the boss with kirbys up b
also got the Golden Mushroom
Huh, feels like the opposite. Maybe it's just because Smash 4 didn't often have you in fights against tons of enemies focused solely on you (and I know what you're gonna say, but Wii U's big Classic Mode battles had four teams per fight and you had a teammate; it wasn't just a team of a half-dozen CPUs against you alone).
It's gotten to the point that my go-to Spirit is Devil Kawashima, because he's a four-star spirit and his trait is granting super armor on smash attack charging. Only two support slots, but that's enough to get in Meloetta for self-heal. And I'm often using Bowser as well for additional super armor.
The fake difficulty for spirits is really obnoxious, possibly the least I've enjoyed AI in Smash as a result thanks to things like damaging floor gimmicks (often combined with cowardly AI immune to the floor in a stamina battle that is timed), potato AI combined with 2HKOs and/or the bullshit that is high wind.
Haven't played much of WoL yet, but got the Pauline battle in an Event and after thinking "It can't be as bad as people say" . . . . it was worse.
I kinda like the idea of spirits, but those aspects are rather frustrating and detract from the fun factor.
Doesn't help that I just wasted two hours getting 0 of the event-exclusive spirits.
What I did was give Ice Climbers the "slow super armor" effect with the "tilt attacks up" skill unlocked, and used Utilt to grind all his robot masters up.
If you're metal and it's a stamina bout, you CANNOT escape Ice Climbers' Utilt, no matter how many times in a row they use it. Get caught once and it's over.
Pauline is probably the most infuriating Spirit I've been able to obtain so far. Fortunately, you can encounter her in Adventure so you have unlimited retries there. It took me a dozen or so tries to finally take it down on hard, and it literally came down to cheesing Mario's hammer out of his hands so I can take him and giant DK down with it, and then go after Peach once I find a timer to keep her from running. Pain in the ass.
Managed to get all three event Spirits too. The other two were relatively easy, but man was that golden mushroom one obnoxious. I forget how I managed to do it; I may have only even won that because the CPU made a mistake or something.
The CPU is input-responsive. The CPU itself uses simulated input so it can interact with itself correctly, but that input doesn't have nearly as high of volume or as big of bursts as human input. I think you can see where this is going.
If a human player is generating some form or another of input on every single frame (even holding a direction counts as "continued input", ticking every frame), the CPU is much more likely to react to them, as when it has to pick from multiple targets, it picks whichever one was last to act near it, which is also why they sometimes get "distracted" mid-combo or switch targets randomly. This focus on the most active participant is often compounded by the fact that the AI becomes more aggressive towards targets in a "vulnerable" state of some kind, leading to that phenomenon where one CPU hits you and suddenly they all dogpile you for seemingly no reason.
Oh hey, for those of you struggling with the Wily spirit fight: You can cheese it way easier that you know.
Seriously, Pick a three slot spirit and equip metal killer and auto-heal. Then pick Wolf. Hold Down+B, and you win. Might even work with Fox.
The Megaman AI for whatever reason will 9 times out of 10 decide that its best option is to fire off side smashes at you, which are projectiles.
Wolf's reflector + Metal killer's damage bonus means that the metal bastards practically 2-shot themselves.
Only thing you gotta watch out for is when they decide to use down-smash instead, but all you really have to do is reposition, and resume holding down-b.
Also, just wanna add that this worked for me. It may have just been lucky happenstance, but it's a simple enough thing to try that I thought I'd share.
So Ultimate is now the best-selling game on the NA eShop in 2018.

Impressive considering it's only had three weeks out of the entire year to reach that spot and the only three games that topped it in downloads are all F2P.
The Pauline stories have me so glad that on my first try the Peach AI proceeded to commit suicide within 15 seconds before anything could happen.
The challenge image which you unlock for playing the game for 20 hours just has Ness' eyes staring right into your soul.
Yeah, I cracked up when I saw that.
It's hard to describe just how monumental this really is.
In a month, it's grossed almost a quarter's worth of the eShop's full-price-game revenue in 2017. ONE GAME. IN ONE MONTH.
The sales numbers make me hopeful there will be more than one wave of DLC. This is a cash cow that Nintendo will be stupid to not try to make use out of.
As much as I would love more DLC, I also want Sakurai to take a break at some point. Others could of course try to take a crack at it, but IDK if Sakurai would be trusting enough of others to allow them to.
Sakurai isn't ever going to take a break unless he literally becomes mentally unfit to do so. Japanese culture and it's work ethic is extremely intense and the thought of taking it easy is pretty bad to many of them, Sakurai probably included. It sucks and reflects pretty poorly on Japan but it's sadly the reality.
They say that Melee players need to take a shower. I disagree.
Sakurai needs to take a shower so that he earns a few minutes of rest and relaxation
To be fair, he himself has said (in as best of wording I can recall) that while it's never-ending torture in the moment, the overwhelming reaction to his work always makes it worth it in the end
Basically he's a chronic workahaulic who just wants to see people happy with what he's made, and he believes you get out of something what you put in
Why not both
I hope he goes back to making some smaller titles again.
That just makes me feel bad about the constant salty fuck fest that is the Smash community finding shit to complain about and trying to DM him on twitter to whine.
I hope the good drowns out the bad.
