I mean, even off the record (apparently) he seems to have a positive view of the Smash community, aside from some blemishes (saying "shame on you" to the people who put all the SSE cutscenes online only days after Brawl came out, for example) The only people in the community he has repeatedly denounced are spoiler trolls, he absolutely hates spoilers in general and has said they can "thoroughly ruin a game"
Was going through Smash music on YouTube and found a fan medley featuring a tune about every single character in the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83DGS8_p5xA It's got a very "MIDI" sound to it, but you can tell the guy put a lot of work into it.
I really wouldn't worry too much about Sakurai's work satisfaction, he's constantly talking about how he loves seeing the reactions to reveals or how he loves working with these different IPs and characters. If he didn't love it he wouldn't keep doing it to himself by signing on to direct each time. And I'm pretty sure someone else manages his Twitter account, while we're talking about it.
While the game is selling great and everyone is loving it, I really hope this also gives Nintendo more incentive to improve things regarding the game. Things like Better netcode (probably not happening but one can dream) Online features missing that Smash 4 had (ability to change ruleset while in a room, quick rematch where you can change fighters, etc) Improved online/offline features (a more robust stage filter, hazards on/off as a toggle on the stage select screen and stage filter, a replay editor that isn't garbage) I love the game to death, but the more I play the good, the easier it is for the bad to stick out.
Not really on topic but I can't find a source for this, it's kinda annoying
Sakurai on Smash Bros. Ultimate When Ultimate was announced during Nintendo’s presentation at E3 2018, everybody jotting down notes about the reveal found that they couldn’t exactly keep up. Even people from foreign media outlets couldn’t help but crack a resigned smile; in the end everybody just gave up taking notes, but I imagine they were happier for it. (laughs) Sakurai: I’m glad it all went down well! (laughs) At the time I was at the venue getting ready for the live broadcast, but I could hear everybody cheering from far off – Nintendo staff included. If that fact that “everyone is here” had been leaked it would’ve made a mess of things, so we had kept the actual contents of the presentation hidden from even the event staff. The level of security was pretty high, thinking back on it. To be there and to even surprise Nintendo staffers would be rewarding enough for me.
Probably for the best that they kept it so closely under wraps this time. Smash leaks are an inevitability at this point and after Brawl and Smash 4, everyone was expecting yet more cuts. I can only imagine the race to be the first one to come out with the "everyone is here" tagline if that info wasn't closely guarded. The only reason people didn't try to even make fake leaks over such is because nobody was about to believe something like that right until the actual reveal. Honestly, this game was a logistical miracle. And probably a legal nightmare.
I feel like the crowd's cheers of "SAKURAI! SAKURAI!" at the E3 invitational did a lot to drown out the complaints of a few salty Twitter users.
Can these fucking spirits I slaved for in summoning not appear in the spirit board anyway
Honestly the "Everyone is here!" announcement was hype as shit. I don't think anyone expected every single character from all of the Smash bros to be in the game + all the newcomers.
Is it just me, or does the Dark Realm theme have a "grand finals at the biggest tournament ever" vibe to it? It sounds like what they'd play in the background as they give dramatically cut finalist bios and dim the stage lights
For whatever reason I opted to try to play it with no spirits enabled just to see the pattern. After I saw the potential, I chose to use the Staff with 2x shooting damage spirits with a primary spirit that gives 3 slots. Pretty sure that's the best strategy for Pauline.
It was so hype it drove RogersBase to tears.
Im willing to say that Everyone is here is the hypest moment of my life. I still get goosebumps when I see the trailer
the "everyone is here" trailer is probably one of the greatest trailers for a game, ever. beyond just the hype levels, it's sequencing is a fantastic buildup with mewtwo, (making clear that 4's dlc was coming back in base roster,) ice climbers, (an expected returning character,) pokemon trainer, (a relatively unexpected returning character,) cloud, (a character there was plenty of doubt returning,) and then snake, (the perfect character to drop "everyone is here" with) (i also feel pichu's showcase almost immediately after snake's was perfect to drive home that it's actually everyone, but maybe i'm biased) top that off with the fantastic main theme in the trailer, and it's a clear recipe for greatness.
King K. Rool's trailer beats it a bit more in satisfaction imo, because it also has the amazing fmv set to the fucking beautiful jungle japes remix. The climax where he and DK's fists collde set off insane emotions for me even still.
stage builder
C'mon Robin, not here. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/236911/7d09cf40-e979-4acc-bacb-726a018c32f6/Dvk2Vb-UwAAMXqo.jpg
that's a weird looking butt
I don't get why 90% of stage tracks are set to appear as rarely as possible with the remaining being like as often as they can be. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if you didn't have to manually set them one by one (afaik at least).
I genuinely have no clue why they decided to get rid of the system they had with My Music. It seemed like a perfect compromise, people that didn't care could still hear different tunes frequently, people that were super into certain songs could still have a bit of variety on their favorite stages. The only thing they really needed was to give some sort of option (maybe as an unlockable feature) to play more songs, especially since a lot of tracks don't actually belong to a certain stage, game, or series.
I set aside a good half hour to customizing the music and like halfway through I just got tired of actually trying so I just equalized the chances for all the songs that had like a 5% chance to play. I wish you could select multiple stages within a franchise and just set all their music chances to the same thing since they all use the same pool of songs. Would've made dealing with all the fuckin Mario stages WAY easier.
I personally hate how there's a sliver of probability for a million songs in every stage, it's a nightmare to slide it all the way off specially on Mario stages or all the others where theres 50+ options I go to all of them and turn them off one by one and set like 2-3 songs to max for each stage, either there's only one/two fitting songs I like (Looking at you, Wario Ware stages) or I want to order them by individual games/tracks that fit them. Like, put the Fountain of Dreams theme ONLY on that stage and not having it appear on any other Kirby stage, or the Awakening/Fates songs on the Awakening/Fates stage and so on This is why I wish there was a way to order stages by sagas or a way to turn every song to 0% so I can set songs manually without that sliver of probability making any NES/GBA music pop up on a stage I don't want to
I wish there was a way to only join a match that had a certain amount of players. I hate queuing up for 4 players and only getting like, 1 other person...
So my brother had the game crash on him and it messed up his joycons. He's updated the firmware and resynced, but the sticks aren't working too well. Would a factory reset help or do we have to send it in to Nintendo?
If you're talking about the sticks "drifting" in a direction, that's a common hardware issue that doesn't have anything to do with the game. Try blowing compressed air into them. Failing that you're gonna have to send them in for repairs.

Mains and why? I wanna get good with Wolf because he seems like a fuckin asshole and I can relate to that.
just fyi, the smash ultimate damage/name font is rodin bokutoh UB. if you need a decent substitute, helvetica is fairly similar in design
I ended up with Ring a Ding playing Everytime because i increased it to a 25% chance in every stage it can be. Whoops. Also, now Flat Zone X only has 2 songs, can't add any of the Other songs.
