Super Smash Bros. General v22: Colors Weave into a Spire of Flame

It's really demoralizing not knowing who to main.
You go onto Quickplay to try characters out and none of them seem to click.
Since they changed their voices to Star Fox Zero VAs I have a sneaking suspicion that their Sm4sh voices were last-minute. They sound so bad and stilted and unfitting of their actual characters.
Try Mario or Pit for a half dozen matches or so, those two specifically. Neither is amazing, but they have tons of varied tools and feel totally different from eachother.
They both represent a different, broad character sub-archetype too, so if you have fun playing Pit but just wish he was faster, maybe try Meta Knight, for example.
I really wish I could pick random for this reason
Oh hey! The game knew my Isabelle amiibo was the autumn clothes variant right away! Didn't think it'd read that far into the metadata when setting it up.

I wonder if this works with Wedding Mario too?
Holy shit Lucas side special is catching everyone off guard. They think it's going to to send them up so they don't risk wasting a dodge and take the hit, but they changed it so that it sends the person to the side instead of up. Instant K.O.
For those of you who think the current proposed "competitive viable" stages sound a bit too restrictive for your tastes, I've compiled a list of "frustration free" hazards-off stages you can use in friendly matches instead. Each of these stages have zero elements that can gimp or kill players without warning, and even smaller hazards are consistent and/or telegraphed. They also feature layouts that do not obstruct a majority of the cast from functioning properly
Steady (Little or no risk of matches being changed by the stage itself)
Battlefield
Final Destination
Pokemon Stadium
Pokemon Stadium 2
Mushroom Kingdom U
Smashville
Wario Ware
Kalos Pokemon League
Unova Pokemon League
Yoshi's Story
Yoshi's Island
Dream Land
Fountain of Dreams
Midgar (functionally just another roll for BF)
Wily Castle (similar to FD, with straight edges and taller ceiling)
Nuanced or Dynamic (Stage moves or has a very unusual layout/composition, but is not intrusive)
Frigate Orpheon
Brinstar
Castle Siege
Green Greens
Garden of Hope
Skyloft
Lylat Cruise
Wuhu Island
Town and City
Reset Bomb Forest
Optional or Gentleman's (Stage can sometimes be exploited for advantages, or has random elements that don't directly affect players)
Peach's Castle 64
Norfair
Halberd
Prism Tower
Mute City SNES
Arena Ferox
Super Mario Maker
Duck Hunt
Umbra Clock Tower
Great Plateau Tower
Pilotwings
Gamer
Pirate Ship
Kongo Falls
Rainbow Cruise
huh, i wonder if this applies to the player 2 amiibo/famicom rob/other variants aswell, those were just treated as the default first slot version in smash 4.
tempted to pull mine out to test these!
Can anyone give me some tips on playing Fox? I feel like I'm playing him wrong.
Be. Aggressive. All the time. Use your speed to constantly follow your opponent everywhere, never stop harassing them with your excellent Nair and Bair. Try to set up situations where you can lock them down with pressure and they're forced to start hard reading you just to get away. Learn to tech chase and read airdodges, never give them even an inch to breathe.
Once they're at kill percent, change tactics to hit and run, dashing in with a pop-up Dtilt or trapping Fair/Dair before going for the kill with Uair or Usmash. If you can force a roll tech near the ledge, you can running Fsmash or running Dsmash to push them offstage, Dsmash pushing them out far and low.
its sleep move is REALLY inconsistent in landing hits for me, is there some nuance I'm missing besides "be directly inside the opponent"?
Finally decided to play online today after putting it off since launch and I ended up getting to Elite with Mario after my first 6 matches. I thought it would take a little longer than that
Also there really needs to be a way to message people on Switch. I added one of my opponents who was a really good Pac-Man player but since there's no way to message or even invite him I'll probably never get to play against him ever again
To those who got a second wind with World of Light, how? I feel like I've already gotten bored, had my second wind, and gotten bored again. The map is just too overwhelmingly huge for me and the main motivator for my progression at this time is unlocking the characters, seeing as how beating the entire journey seems like a distant prospect. Problem is I find unlocking the characters for the actual main game much more satisfying.
I'm not entirely sure how the Spirit Board system works with World of Light, are there any special spirits in World of Light I can't get on the Spirit Board? As it stands, the Spirit Board is somehow grabbing my attention for longer periods of time than the actual main game is.
I need something to push me along in World of Light, as I really do want to complete it and see the climax everyone is raving about. My second wind was my determination to unlock Snake, but almost immediately afterwards I lost interest once again.
Not even necessarily uncomfortable as much as it is impractical. Being too big for the Joy-Con Grip, slotting them into the Switch would be the only way you'd actually be able to play without keeping the halves separate (not that separate-handed is necessarily a bad thing, but I imagine that those who want to use it for Smash wouldn't like that). And having those things protruding out of the Switch would kill any semblance of portability dead. Not to mention it'd only really be good for Smash, unless you add a ZL and Start/Select buttons (and even then, the reversal of L/R and ZL/ZR between GameCube and future controllers would screw things up further).
I could see it as a third-part accessory if demand really is high enough (doubtful), but Nintendo themselves would look at something like that and ask what the point is. Though then again, Nintendo are the same ones who thought NES Joy-Cons were a good idea.
I'm fairly certain the same people voice them in SF643D (which Smash 4 is based on) and SF0 (which Ultimate is based on). I know for a fact that Mike West does Fox in both Smash 4 and Ultimate, even though he re-did all his clips for Ultimate.
I still miss their Assault/Brawl voices, though. Y'know Grant Goodeve (a.k.a. the Engineer) did Wolf back then?
One thing about WoL is that you can rematch the Spirits unlimited times and don't have to play the spinning-shield minigame afterwards to capture them, which has come in handy more than once for a few I couldn't lock down on the Spirit Board (hello, Pauline). That way you can save those precious rematch items for events or stuff you can't get in WoL. Also, you can use your skill tree abilities in WoL but not the Spirit Board, and if you become really desperate, you can even drop the difficulty to easy and still gain the Spirit that way. About the only thing you lose out on is those assist items like "weaken minions" or "enemy starts at 50%", since those aren't available in WoL.
Basically, WoL seems like a far more reliable way to get the Spirits that are in there, whereas the Spirit Board is you rolling the dice for the rest of them.
I miss Ike's Brawl/Smash 4 voice. They should've at least kept it for Radiant Dawn Ike; the new voice sounds too young and there's barely a difference in English (at least in Japanese he sounds notably deeper in his RD outfit than his PoR one).
if it's similar to past games, which it seems to be from what i've played, the hitbox is basically her face.
I know PowerA has those wireless Gamecube controllers, I just wish they had a wireless option that can also recharge. Alas, they do not
Just tested the famicom ROB amiibo, it didn't recognize it as the variant and appeared with the default skin.
I asked my brother for a bayonetta amiibo because I thought she was gonna be my main and I guess he couldn't tell which version to get so he got me both costume variants and ultimate autoselected the appropriate costumes.
I wish these things weren't such a bitch to find but smash comes out with seventy fuckin characters so I guess I'll pick up what I can.
PowerA are hit and miss in regards to quality, everything I've bought from them usually only lasts a few months at most.
It's fine, IMO. Used the controller at a friends house, buttons were tactile and satisfying.
people talking like lucas is a clone of ness kills me. they have similar special moves and a similar forward smash. that's it!
they also share the trait of people using them being worse than fox mains
fight me > : (
Is Lucas some weird tier meta pick? I just wanna play him cos I like Mother 3
Nope. Simon's Holy Water is fire, so it doesn't do damage to Red Pikmin/set off Link's bombs, and Richter's uses aura, but at a fixed rate unlike Lucario.
What constitutes a "clone" varies between games. In 64, Luigi, Jigglypuff, and Captain Falcon were clones of Mario, Kirby, and Samjs respectively, because they had similar attacks, usually just a few re-used animations due to similar model shape. In melee, Falco, Dr. Mario, Ganon, Pichu, Young Link, and Roy were obvious clones with very little differences in movesets.
In Brawl, Lucas, Wolf, Toon Link (and maybe somebofy that i forgot) were the closest things to clones. They re-used special moves, maybe a few normal attacka, and Final Smashes. In Sm4sh, clones where characters that were outright confirmed to be originally alt costumes, but changed to their owb characters, with minor differences like in Melee (Dr. Mario, Lucina, Dark Pit).
In Ultinate, clones are called "echo fighters," which as far as i can tell means they re-use animations from the original character. This basically means Richter, Dark Samus, Daisy, Chrom, and Ken are all clones, even though the differences in moveset vary wildly (Ken has different movespeed from Ryu, his specials act differently, and he has completrly unique animations, while Chrom is Roy but with Ike's upB, but AFAICT, Daisy and Richter are both literally the same as Peach and Simon aside from Richter's holy water being magic damage instead of fire damage).
This also means that according to Sakurai, Isabelle isn't a clone of Villager solely because they had to completely re-do all her animations, even though technically she's Villager with her specials switched around, and is on the Brawl tier of clone characters.
i have no idea. i play him because A) mother 3 and B) i love the way he plays, with his sweetspot PK attacks, his crazy up smash, his PK fire knocking him backwards, etc
